Question Regarding First Year Draft and Talent Distribution
I know this topic has been covered before, but maybe not to this specific reason. I have 50 rounds in my draft with full minors, and real roster limits (30 players in SA, and 35 in Rookie ball) Should I reduce the talent modifiers from 1.000 down a bit so that the league is not overloaded with good talent? Will it make a difference? Any suggestions are welcome.. Thank you.

Is there a particular reason you want to have 50 rounds? The simplest solution is just to tailor the number of draft rounds.

Because with actual minor league roster sizes, you need more players to fill those rosters. With the MLB setup I will either need more rounds, or more players generated. So what I have is 50 rounds with 50 rounds of players generated as well. That's about ten more rounds of Players needed, but it ensures there will be enough free agents. I just don't want too many quality players in the league

Stick to 5x the number of minor league levels (plus a couple extra to cover the supplemental round), there's really little need to pump out so many extra rounds.

I probably need 40 rounds, with some extra generated for free agents. That was why just went with 50 and figured I'd only generate as many and try to reduce talent. Not a good idea I guess?

If you generate that many unnecessary players your free agent pool is going to swell to a ridiculous size, 99% of which are going to be completely worthless.

I have an MLB type league, three levels of minors and have a 20 round draft with 25 rounds of players generated. What should I cut back?

Messing with the creation modifiers and generating hundreds of unneeded players just seems like creating a potential problem where one doesn't exist. Last edited by snepp; 07-31-2012 at 08:19 PM. |

Have you noticed any increase in the size of your free agent pool? I usually do 15/18 when running 3 levels, the quantity of incoming players seems to roughly match the number of outgoing. There is a benefit to generating extra rounds, it allows you to pool up a bunch of extra free agents if you're planning on expansion. This way you don't have to rely on the "fill minors" function, which can generate top prospects you don't want. Last edited by snepp; 07-31-2012 at 08:32 PM. |

OK....only things I want to point out are:
1. A few teams have 7 minor league teams as opposed to 6 2. All AAA, AA, High A, Low A have 25 man rosters, while short season A has 30 players, and Rookie ball has 30. I would think somewhere these factors would make a difference. EDIT: Okay, I checked and there are 7 teams with seven levels of minors. Last edited by PSUColonel; 07-31-2012 at 08:44 PM. |

OKay...I am thinking I will need to generate 40 rounds of players...and can have between 35 and 40 rounds. Does this sound correct (or not) to you?

I'm sure that 40 rounds generated would be more than enough. I always use higher roster limits on the lowest couple of levels as well (50 rookie, 30 A).

More than enough? How many should I have without getting too much talent in the league then?

I play a MLB setup with full minors and I have my draft set to 35 rounds with 40 rounds generated and it is more then enough. Plus there are a few International Free Agents that show up throughout the year.

right, so if I generate 40, I can still have 40 rounds and it would make no difference right? Teams will just release what they don't need/want

I think I'm just going to have 30 rounds, and generate 35. This seems like the best way to control talent and still have a lot of free agents. I should have no problem with this correct?
