Unresolved issues. Unimpressed with OOTP13

Since OOTP 13 has come out I have had issues with it. Some I have accepted and worked around, like getting a message congratulating my pitcher for setting the American League single season record when he won his 24th game when he actually had won 25 games in consecutive years just 2 years prior. Not a big deal. Other issues that effected the game I have sent tickets to Tech support. One was never responded to and was closed. One I supplied the info requested of me i.e. dat files, OS, screen shots, I unlicensed/uninstalled, relicensed/reinstalled, etc. and the response was that others were having the same problem but Tech Support could not help, the issue would be passed along to Markus and “may be addressed in the upcoming patch” meaning the 7/13 patch. It wasn’t. And the 3rd ticket has never been responded to. I also think it’s pretty bogus that an important issue such skins being hard on the eyes is being pushed aside. Heck who cares about all the bells and whistles if you can’t see or it’s annoying to play. Who’s going to continue to play or more importantly who is going to continue to buy?
Complaining like am, I still like the game and have been buying and playing since it was out under Season Ticket Baseball, but it’s frustrating when all of a sudden things come to a standstill seasons into playing. I’m not looking for solutions here as I know the Tech Support procedure.
Thanks for reading my vent

There is a recent thread called "Change The Font" that provides a temporary fix to the font issue.

Sley, some of us tried as hard as we could to get Markus to fix the font, but he would not do it. There is a work-around, but it's far from perfect.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

Perhaps I am the CNN of BNN here: Fair and balanced reporting. Yes, the font is horrible in some eyes, on some monitors. However, the fix is NOT easy, I am sure. Many aspects of the GUI, re-designed for OOTP13, would have to be re-re-designed to accommodate a different font.

The font they use is too skinny and faint, especially at lower sizes. Somewhere in this thread, I put up a post comparing the fonts and you can certainly see the difference.

Markus alluded to the difficulty and to the availability of the work-around. This is to copy the vera font from OOTP12 into 13's font folder, choose a skin (dark one is best for this purpose) and stick with it (changing it with the old font installed leads to some funkiness). Is it perfect? No. But, I'm rather fastidious and yet it seems adequate to me. That is where Markus has left it and, to his credit, he did come forward and state his case so that we all knew the situation.

This is unfair. Hubris is Facebook changing its format and security settings, unannounced. Hubris is Mozilla telling everybody that Thunderbird is for dinosaurs who use PC's and they're not going to develop or update it anymore. Hubris is Microsoft cutting off support for previous versions of Windows and making newer ones backwards incompatible for many applications (so, bye-bye Thunderbird in a few years). Hubris is e-mailing many other gaming companies about something and getting nothing but a canned auto-response, if that. Shall I continue?

I hadn't heard about Thunderbird. That really sucks.

Help me through my slowness. The word font does not appear in the OP. After reading the OP several times I see a reference to skins being hard on the eyes and earlier references to unnamed problems.

To me the OP should specifically state the problem or problems he has? I think it a little unreasonable to have an indecipherable post (and maybe that's just me) act as some lightning rod for a problem not stated.

Well, it was fairly well established that the most significant problem with this version's interface was the font. Anybody complaining about the GUI was talking about this more than the colors or screen layout, I believe.

But, since it was not a show-stopper or a bandwagon issue, the top brass put it on the back burner. (How's that for multi-metaphor jargon?)

Not arguing that at all. I dislike overblown thread titles and the double whammy of the post not coming close to describing a specific problem.

Why do I not have this font problem? Are my fan-boy filter glasses on too tight?

I can assure you that you're not the only one who is chagrined about the developer's inaction on customer service-related issues. I can also tell you that some 150+ items in the bug DB have gone unresolved -- some since April. It is as if the developer's attention is somewhere else entirely. I know I'm not much help, sley. But I can appreciate your frustration.

That's really disturbing.

As for your bugs getting closed on the issue tracker I can say there a number of completely legitimate reasons, some of those being not enough information, unable to reproduce, or even they don't intend to fix it because they simply don't consider it a priority. They do get a lot of bugs, some of them would take too much effort to fix when they consider how it affects the game and just how difficult it would be to fix.

Sure it sucks, and yeah, it'd probably be nice at least get a 'thank you for bringing this to our attention' type response, but they're not a huge team and they can't do everything.

I run at 1440x900 full screen and I really don't see how anything is hard on the eyes. Not with using any of the default skins. The font is fine for me too, so I don't know exactly what you mean about the skin being hard on the eyes.

Make sure you're running at an adequate resolution, anything much smaller than 1440x900 might make things more difficult. Just because a game supports smaller resolutions does't mean it's recommended. Same with windowed mode - make sure the windowed res isn't too small.

Another thing that helps not just with this game, but with looking at your screen in general, is turn down the brightness of the monitor. I think I have mine around 30. The factory settings are way too high.

And if none of that is what your looking for, well, I hope someone finds a way to fix whatever the issues are that make it unplayable for you. I find this to be a great release and I understand any frustration people feel with the problems they have.

Didn't mean to imply that I have a problem with fonts or skins or brightness, I don't but I read many posts where they are issues to some players. And i think in such a text related game those issues are important. Without meaning to go into details here like I did for Tech Support some of my issues include the scout recommendation not functioning, not enough players for the amateur draft and my team the only team able to draft. The first issue went unanswered, I sent dat files etc on the second and in the response I did receive, all my settings were correct. I know there are work arounds like filling teams with fictious players and un/reinstalling (which hasn't helped). I haven't bothered to send a ticket on the third issue. I figure what's the point. Like I said earlier more of a vent. Just tiresome and frustrating to start from scratch every few seasons. Thanks.
