Anybody else seen this with the latest patch (13.4.17)?

It's no big deal; messages appear correctly everywhere else and even here if any filter is applied, but this is new in my game with patch 13.4.17:

EDIT: Hmmm. Subtle difference. That other guy is seeing his problem on the manager's message window (which would be a much more serious issue to me, personally). I see mine only on the league news listing. My manager news is fine:

No, that's quite all right. I've often said myself that some problems MAY be too isolated, or too closely associated with corrupted leagues, for the developers to address.

But, if you DO see it, fellow members, better pipe up here or in the bug thread. That news listing window is not used very much, I don't think, so you may want to go there and check it.

For me, I'm OK with this because my manager message window, and other places where messages are seen, are fine. I feel sorry for the other guy with the same problem, only reversed locations.

I usually experience this exact same problem when playing OOTP after a few beers....quite a few beers, actually.

You guys are a laugh riot! You're killing me, oh yeah.

Well for Full Disclosure and Honesty, I come back to give some observations.

First, the problem is in the league, not in the game. The reason I can say this is, the news listing screen functions normally with other leagues, old and new.

Second, I did a complete uninstall and reinstall and the same problem occurs with this one league. See the screen print below.

So, it's my league although something in this new patch may be affecting the situation. Still, I will keep the patch because of all the other things fixed and introduced in it.

See how it says it found 13,221 messages? Actually there are 30,513 in the messages folder. I have the game set to Keep ALL News Logs and this may not be smart for a long-term league. It's just too many files! Windows Explorer has a hard time just focusing on them all.

Think I'm kidding? Try copying (not moving) a 25-year league from one location to another. It's not the size of the files, it's the number of them. It takes a looooonnng time.

Someday, I would like to see this game get away from needing thousands and thousands of text files to record data.

I scaled back the setting from keeping ALL news logs (messages) to keeping them only from last 2 years. The news listing is now back to normal, as seen below.

Too many messages can cause this problem, I guess. It may or may not have been triggered by the latest patch.

I am happy, except for one thing. You know that News Involving Player feature in Player History? It's all gone now for players who retired prior to two years ago. That includes my Hall of Famers.

One more compromise that I must make with this great, but imperfect, game.

I'm having the same issue and did not have this issue before the patch. I ran a longtime league and did not have this issue at all until the latest patch. Deleting news files as a workaround is an unacceptable solution for me as want to keep all my news stories. Hopefully, a patch can be released soon to fix this!

No, this is not an isolated problem. I ran a MLB test league created with the latest patch installed. When I get to the 2019 season this issue pops up again. So it not only happens with existing leagues but, newly created ones as well. I have a feeling that when you get to over 3000 messages with your manager folder, this bug will affect the display of those messages as well.



This needs to be fixed!

Here's the story, I think.

The default option is to save None of the News Logs, which is the same as saying Messages. Every offseason (or preseason), the game goes through the messages folder and deletes everything dated for last season, in that case. Same procedure for injury logs and transaction logs (the news/txt/leagues and /teams folders). Messages never amount to a few hundred text files, perhaps.

If a player sets these options for keeping 2 years or 10 years, then maybe the number of text files mounts into the low thousands. The game erases all files dated prior to 2 or 10 years, keeping the total number down. If somebody (like me, formerly) sets them for keeping All, however, then the number will be in the tens of thousands. It's then when this problem occurs, it appears.

Well, enough forum members would have to:

• have known about this option and had a reason to set it for keeping ALL News Logs,
• if so, cared enough about this problem to at least check their News Listing (which is where my problem was; fortunately, my manager news window was not affected), and
• come back and report their finding here.

Without a whole bunch of people doing these things, it's not going to receive much priority, I am afraid. I did report it in the Bugs Log and I uploaded my league in case they do want to investigate it, but I don't hold out much hope. Maybe I'm too much of a realist/pessimist.

I wish there were a way, though, to keep SELECTED messages and delete the rest according to those option settings. For example, the only messages that I really miss (now that I'm back to keeping None of my messages) are the ones in the News Involving Player feature of Player History. If I only could have locked and saved those messages for my Hall of Fame players, I would be a happy man, indeed.

Appreciate your comments Yankee but, I ran a test league with total messages around 5000 or so and the bug still occurs. So I don't think it's the total number of messages that is causing this problem. Also, this bug DID NOT appear until the latest patch was installed. Prior to that I had no problems selecting and keeping ALL messages. Additionally, I logged this issue in the bug log as well and uploaded my test league files as well.

While your workaround is appreciated, it is not acceptable. This needs to be addressed via patch, and I will continue to post about this issue until I get an answer from the development team or Markus.

I normally don't complain but, a number of bugs including this one have occurred as a result of the latest patch. I truly hope that we do not have to wait another 2-3 months for another patch to fix these bugs!!!!

Part of the problem is that [what's left of] the beta team did not have much time at all to test the game before the patch was released. Believe me, we tried to light a fire under Markus to clean up some of the bugs. But pestering him is "frowned upon in this establishment."

I'm with you, ashantewarrior. I hope we don't have to wait another 2-3 months for another patch. I doubt it. But with Markus' fragile health, you never know. I'm guessing a new patch will be released sooner rather than later to fix the online RTS issues. But the majority of the bug reports will probably have to wait until . . . well, whenever.
