Gomez destroyed Agbeko on three rounds!
Escobar Stadium, San Juan, Puerto Rico, 2000-10-27
IBF BW CHAMPIONSHIP Wilfredo Gomez 11-1-0 (8) KO3 Joseph Agbeko 8-7-1 (1) Gomez came to fight like a storm throwing (and most landing) punch after punch, for the first two minutes of the round a surprised Agbeko couldn’t land any significant punches. On the last minute Agbeko did it a bit better and with some good body work he could stop Gomez attack. But on the second round Gormez relaunched his furious attack, totally outworked the african, near the end of the round a great combination by Gomez seemed to hurt the african. On the third round Agbeko looked totally spent and Gomez started to land punch after punch without any answer. Finally with Agbeko trying to cover up Gomez connected a violent shot under his ribcage and dropped him for the ten count. Great exhibition of offensive boxing by Gomez to defend his title for the second time. Also on the undercard: WW: Jose Napoles 16-1-0 (12) KO1 Walter Crucce 1-17-2 (1) LW: George Lavigne 11-7-0 (5) UD10 Alberto Sicurella 4-10-1 (2) JWW: Zab Judah 14-1-0 (9) TKO8 Nicolino Locche 13-2-0 (3) HW: Joe Frazier 20-1-0 (13) KO3 Alex Stewart 8-9-1 (5) CW: Dennis Lebedev 8-6-1 (4) KO6 Herbie Hide 6-7-1 (5) MW: Keith Holmes 5-9-0 (1) UD10 Gilbert Baptist 1-12-0 (1) |

Attell outpointed Sukothai for first title defense
WBO BW CHAMPIONSHIP Abe Attell 15-2-1 (1) UD12 Thanomchit Sukothai 11-8-0 (4) Abe Attel gave a rematch to Sukothai, on their first meeting Attel won by KO6 on a non-title fight. This time Sukothai did it a lot better but it wasn’t enough to win the fight. The challenger won the first round on a big form, a big right uppercut to Attel chin’s was the highlight of the round. Sukothai continued throwing bombs on the second round but with little succes than on the first one and Attel managed to box and won a competitive round. On the third round Sukothai regained the control of the fight, a big right cross seemed to hurt Attel and also cut him under his left eye. Finally on the fourth round Attell found his pace and could outbox Sukothai. On the following two rounds Attell deepened hs dominance and finally on the seventh round Attel had his best round of the fight totally outboxing a frustrated Sukothai. With this four marvelous rounds Attel move into the lead on all three scorecards. But Sukothai didn’t give up and convincingly won rounds eight and nine. The tenth round was the worse of the fight with very few clean punches landed but Attell edged it for being more active than Sukothai. On the elventh round Attel clearly outlanded Sukothai to win the round. Sukothai looked for the knock out on the final round and he landed a big hook to the chin of Attel that shook the champion but he couldn’t follow up the action. My scorecard and all three judges scorecards were 115-113 for the champion Attel. Also on the undercard: MW: Mickey Walker 16-5-1 (13) UD10 Roy Jones Jr 17-2-0 (11) WW: Kendall Holt 11-6-3 (6) UD10 Carlos Palomino 5-9-1 (3) JWW: Lovemore Ndou 8-7-0 (4) Draw10 Jaime Rangel 5-6-0 (2) JLW: Nestor Martin Farias 1-12-3 (1) TKO9 Edwin Santana 3-7-1 (0) JMW: Mamadou Thiam 3-10-2 (2) KO7 Alex Bunema 1-10-1 (0) SW: Alex Zolkin 5-6-1 (2) KO2 Julius Francis 0-14-0 (0) |

After beating Louis, Quarry defeated Terrel to win WBC HW title
WBC HW CHAMPIOSNSHIP Jerry Quarry 14-4-0 (10) UD12 Ernie Terrell 16-2-2 (1) Both fighters came of upset wins: Terrell won the title against Larry Holmes and then he defended it beating George Foreman. Both times he win by UD12. Jerry Quarry earned this title chance beating raising star Joe Louis by TKO4, so all was prepared for a very big fight. On a very tactical fight Jerry Quarry used his quick hands to dominate Ernie Terrell. Quarry won the first two rounds on a convincing way. Terrell reacted winning the third round but Quarry regained the control on the following two rounds taking a good lead on the scorecards. Terrell had his best round on the sixth one in which he totally dominated the fight. Quarry edged a competitive seventh round but Terrell won the eighth one. But every chance for Terrell to retain his title went away on the last four rounds in which Quarry outboxed a willing but superated champion to won the fight and the title. My scorecard was 117-111 for Quarry and the official scorecards were 117-111 (x2) and 117-112 for the new champion Quarry. Also on the undercard: MW: Iran Barkley 5-6-1 (2) UD10 Jean-Claude Bouttier 7-10-0 (2) JMW: Dana Rosenblatt 5-7-2 (3) TKO8 Carl Daniels 6-11-1 (5) FW: Johnny Tapia 10-7-0 (2) UD10 Remigio Molina 3-10-0 (1) JLW: Cesar Soto 10-9-1 (5) UD10 Kennedy McKinney 7-4-1 (2) JWW: Vince Phillips 7-6-0 (3) TKO10 Ray Oliveira 5-12-1 (2) JMW: Tony Ayala 13-3-0 (8) Draw10 Nino Benvenuti 14-3-0 (6) JMW: Julian Jackson 10-3-0 (9) TKO2 Santos Cardona 5-9-1 (0) |

Corbett won the tile and left Marciano without undefeated record.
WBA HW CHAMPIONSHIP James Corbett 13-3-0 (3) SD12 Rocky Marciano 15-0-0 (14) On a typical fight between a boxer and a puncher, James Corbett surprised the world winning the WBA heavyweight title and finishing Rocky Marciano’s undefeated record. On the first two rounds of the fight everything went as Corbett planned, he outboxed Marciano from the outside and avoided Marciano’s attacks. But on the third round Marcian’s power said present and he dropped Corbett with a violent shot under his ribcage. Corbett got up and then tried to cover up and retreat until the end of the round taking some punishment in the way. On rounds fourth and fifth Corbett returned to his plan and could easily dominated Marciano again. Marciano hurt Corbett with some sporadic crosses but Corbett landed much more punches than him. On rounds sixth and seventh Marciano muscled his way to the inside and started to found the taget for his blows more frequently. On this two rounds Corbett landed several couterpunches but not enough to win the rounds. Corbett had a big eighth round in which he dominated Marciano and also hurt him with a body shot near the end of the round. Rocky reacted in good form winning the ninth round, his strong crosses still hurt Corbett when he found the target. The fight continued changing from hand to hand and again Corbett was the dominator on the tenth round, on this stanza Marciano didn’t land any clean punches but on the eleventh round Marciano regained the control again and put the result into doubt. The last round seemed to be very important for the fight’s result and Corbett totally dominated it also hurting Marciano with a big hook, to win the round, the fight and the title. My scorecard was 114-113 for Corbett. The offical scorecards were 115-114 114-113 for Corbett and 114-113 for Marciano. Also on the undercard: SHW: Derek Chisora 6-13-2 (4) MD10 David Bostice 1-9-1 (1) HW: HW: Adilson Rodrigues 8-7-2 (4) TKO9 Gerrie Coetzee 4-14-0 (3) WW: Ramon Campas 11-5-3 (10) KO10 Pete Ranzany 5-11-0 (1) JWW: Freddie Pendleton 6-15-0 (3) UD10 Victor Hugo Castro 3-14-0 (0) LW: Jose Luis Lopez 5-7-1 (1) UD10 Efren Hinojosa 0-12-1 (0) LW: Angel Manfredy 7-7-3 (1) UD10 Julio Diaz 13-3-0 (9) Last edited by Thomas Hearns; 07-10-2012 at 12:09 PM. |

Dempsey punished Schultz for second succesful defense
IBF HW CHAMPIONSHIP Jack Dempsey 12-0-0 (11) UD12 Axel Schultz 14-6-0 (1) The German Axel Schultz gave a very good fight to the undefeated champion Jack Dempsey for the first five rounds, then Dempsey’s power and boxing skills were too much for Schultz. The German won the first round convincingly, the second was an even affaire and Dempsey reacted winning the third round and edging the fourth one by a slim margin. But on the fifth round the dominator was again the Schultz but it was all, from this point almost everything was for Dempsey. The champion dominated a one-sided sixth round in which he hurt Schultz with a pair of violent crosses. Demsey continued punishing the German on the seventh round, this time his favourite weapon was the straight right, Dempsey continued the same way on the following round. On the ninth round Demspey almost dropped Schultz with a body shot followed by a big right uppercut near the end of the stanza. On the tenth round Demspsey connected a violent shot under Schultz ribcage and floored him for a six count. After getting up the German received a pair of strong uppercuts by Dempsey that made him stumble but he survived the round. On the elventh round Demsey used Schultz as a punching bag, connecting crosses ,uppercuts and combinations but the brave German refused to fall. On the last round Dempsey took a round off and allowed Schultz to win the stanza. My scorecard was 117-111 for the champion Dempsey. The offical scorecards were 116-110 116-111 ans 118-109 for Jack Dempsey. Joplin Memorial Hall, Joplin, MS, United States, 2000-11-05
WBO HW CHAMPIONSHIP James Jeffries 18-3-1 (12) TKO10 Renaldo Snipes 7-5-1 (3) After winning the inaugural WBO Heavyweight title beating Jack Johnson on February, James Jeffries succesfuly defended his titlte three more times (counting this defense) to travell across the 2010 year as a world champion to be the best heavyweight of this moment. On this fight Snipes only put some resistance on the first round, after that Jeffries totally dominated the fight. On the second round a shot to Snipes’ midsection followed by a great hook by Jeffries hurt Snipes for the first time. On the third round Snipes was doing it well until a brutal barrage of punches by Jeffries dropped him for five count. After Snipes got up Jeffries battered him until the bell rang. On the fourth round Jeffries punished Snipes that couldn’t connect any clean punches. On the fifth round a trmendous shot under Snipes ribcage dropped him for the second time on the fight. Again after Snipes got up Jeffries threw everything he had but Snipes survived. The sixth round was again one-sided for Jeffries his hooks and straight rights hurt Snipes a pair of times. On the seventh round Snipes tried a warm reaction but on the eighth stanza he was on the canvas again this time courtesy of a great cross by Jeffries. Jeffries easily dominated the ninth round and on the tenth he dropped Snipes again with a terrible hook, Snipes got up but was floored again a minute later this time by a great right uppercut by Jeffries. Snipes got up for the fifth time on the fight but the referee didn’t allow him to continue fighting. At the time of the stoppage the scorecards were 89-80 (x3) for the champion Jeffries. No without polemic Ottke edged Dirrell to win WBA SMW Title
Funkturm-Hallen, Berlin, Germany, 2000-11-07
WBA SMW CHAMPIONSHIP Sven Ottke 8-3-2 (1) UD12 Andre Dirrell 10-2-3 (2) On a very even fight between two fighters with the same style Sven Ottke scored a slim unanimous decision win against Andre Dirrell. Both fighters were known for doing only the neccesary to win taking little risks. Ottke outlanded Dirrell 355-254, Dirrell was trying to make his third title defense. Dirrell won the first round but then Ottke won the following two rounds convincingly and he also edged the fourth round. Dirrell rallied winning round fifth and sixth with authority. Ottke came to life again winning the following two rounds on a one sided form. On the seventh round Dirrel failed to land a single punch. Dirrell won an actionless ninth round and then he dominated the tenth round. With only two rounds to go the fight was deadly even and the last rounds didn’t put any light on it, Dirrell edged a too competitive eleventh round and Ottke edged the last round. My scorecard was 114-114 but the judges saw it: 115-113 115-114 and 116-113 for the new champion Sven Ottke. Also on the undercard: JWW: Kelson Pinto 1-9-0 (0) UD10 Hugo Hernandez 3-10-0 (0) FLY: Myung-Woo Yuh 6-9-1 (1) SD10 Alex Sanchez 2-13-0 (0) WW: Pipino Cuevas 10-4-1 (6) TKO10 Saul Alvarez 9-4-2 (4) SMW: Steve Collins 11-2-4 (2) UD10 Leonard Townsend 2-16-0 (1) CW: Ossie Ocasio 6-9-2 (1) TKO9 O'Neil Bell 4-7-0 (2) WW: Dixie Kid 5-9-0 (1) TKO10 James Page 3-14-1 (2) MW: Alan Minter 10-5-0 (4) UD10 William Joppy 6-5-2 (0) Last edited by Thomas Hearns; 07-11-2012 at 11:33 AM. |

Calzaghe climbed two times from the canvas to defend his title for third time
Wythenshawe Forum, Wythenshawe Manchester, United Kingdom, 2000-11-09
IBF SMW CHAMPIONSHIP Joe Calzaghe 15-2-0 (6) TKO11 Manny Siaca 7-8-1 (2) On a great fight the champion Joe Calzaghe needed to put his major effort to defend his title for the third time. Siaca an irregular fighter that had eight defeats but had victories over ones like WBA champ Sven Ottke or former WBA champ Andre Dirrell was very near to score a surprising victory on the early rounds but then Calzaghe showed his quality to win the fight. The bout started as it was expected with Calzaghe controlling the actions on the first two rounds. But on the third round a quick and violent barrage of punches by Siaca dropped the champion. Calzaghe got up at four and then he tried to cover up but he received some more punishment until the bell rang. On the fourth round Calzaghe tried to regain the control and he did it for the first two minutes but then Siaca connected a big blow under Joe’s ribcage and dropped him for the second time. Calzaghe got up and the bell rang saving him. But on the fifth round the fight changed dramatically when Calzaghe connected a big uppercut to Siaca’s chin when the boricua was looking for the inside. Siaca tasted the canvas and got up at the count of four on bad shape. Calzaghe dominated the rest of the round but he was still too cautious. On the sixth round Siaca went punch per punch with Calzaghe and could edge the round, but it seemed to be the last effort of the boricua, after this moment Calzaghe took the total dominance of the fight winning the following four rounds on a one sided form. On the tenth round the referee took a point from Calzaghe by holding and hitting. Tired, punished and with a great swelling under his right eye Siaca looked like a spent man when he came to fight on the tenth round, and Calzaghe was merciless and he battered Siaca and made the swelling under his eye worse forcing the referee to stop the fight. At the time of the stoppage the scorecards were 94-92 (x2) for Calzaghe and 94-92 for Siaca. Also on the undercard: LW: Edwin Rosario 6-3-1 (3) TKO4 Teo Cruz 8-7-1 (1) SMW: Omar Gonzalez 2-13-1 (0) UD10 Mario Veit 6-9-1 (2) MW: Panama Joe Gans 12-3-1 (5) MD10 Gerald McClellan 6-6-0 (3) SW: Fabio Moli 4-10-0 (1) KO5 James Smith 13-7-1 (7) HW: Marvis Frazier 5-9-0 (0) KO1 Jesse Ferguson 4-14-1 (2) JWW: Frankie Randall 11-5-0 (5) UD10 Omar Weis 4-13-0 (0) JWW: Amir Khan 6-5-1 (4) UD10 Reggie Green 3-14-1 (1) Last edited by Thomas Hearns; 07-11-2012 at 11:57 AM. |

Easy third title defense for Eubank
Harringay Arena, London, United Kingdom, 2000-11-11
WBO SMW CHAMPIONSHIP Chris Eubank 14-1-2 (2) UD12 Jean Paul Mendy 8-4-4 (1) An easy third title defense for Eubank against average Jean Paul Mendy. The frenchman did it well some rounds but he never was near of the victory. Eubank edged the first round and then he used Mendy as a punching bag on the seconnd round until finally dropped him with a big cross near the end of the round. On the third round Eubank continued his boxing clinic hitting Mendy and not allowing him to connect any clean punches. On the following three rounds Mendy tried a reaction edging the fourth and sixth rounds and convincingly winning the fifth round in which he also put the champion in some trouble when he connected a strong uppercut seconds before the bell rang. But Eubank regained the control of the fight on the seventh round again not allowing Mendy to find the target with his punches. Eubank also easily dominated the eighth round. Mendy did it better on the following round to made it an even one, but on the tenth round Eubank dropped him again with a strong uppercut after completelly dominated all the round. The eleventh round was an even one and on the last round we had very poor action, with Eubank with no interest in looking for the KO and Mendy waiting for the final bell. My scorecard was 117-110 for Eubank, the official scorecards were 117-110 (x2) and 115-112 for the champion Eubanks. Also on the undercard: JMW: Roman Karmazin 9-5-1 (5) TKO10 Kassim Ouma 14-2-2 (10) SHW: Chris Arreola 9-8-0 (6) SD10 Oldanier Solis 7-5-1 (3) JMW: Robert Hines 10-9-0 (3) MD10 Maurice Hope 11-2-0 (10) CW: Anaclet Wamba 8-5-3 (4) TKO10 Ralf Rocchigiani 3-10-0 (2) JLW: Jorge Solis 3-14-2 (2) UD10 Edwin Santana 3-8-1 (0) FW: Jeff Fenech 7-5-1 (4) TKO3 Julio Pablo Chacon 2-11-0 (0) FLY: Marcos Obregon 1-16-0 (0) UD10 Jose Carita Lopez 3-13-3 (1) |

Leonard stopped Margarito for third title defense
Briggs Stadium, Detroit, MI, United States, 2000-11-12
WBC WW CHAMPIONSHIP Ray Leonard 13-3-1 (7) KO6 Antonio Margarito 9-2-1 (4) Sugar Ray Leonard defended his title for the third time against tough Mexican Antonio Margarito. The challenger did it well on some of the early rounds but finally Leonard boxing skills were too much to hold for him. Leonard started the first round on a dominant way clealry outlanded Margarito and getting him into trouble with crosses, hooks and uppercuts. Margarito seemed to be too slow for Sugar Ray. But on the second round Margarito found his pace and started to find the mark to his power blows. A great uppercut by the Mexican shook Leonard near the end of the round. Sugar Ray didn’t land any clean punches this round. On the third round Margarito continued in control of the actions, Leonard only danced , retreated and covered on this round giving the initiative to the challenger. Leonard changed his strategy on the fourth round and come to fight like a puncher outspeeding Margarito, on the two minutes mark Leonard connected a great hook and Margarito tasted the canvas. The Mexican got up and stayed out of risk for the rest of the round. On the fifth round Leonard continued in the dominance hurting Margarito again with a strong uppercut. Margarito finished this round with some swelling under his left eye. On the sixth round Leonard came decided to finish the fight, he connected several quick combinations until landing a shot under Margarito’s ribcage and sent him to the canvas for the second time. Hearns destroyed Baldomir
WBA WW CHAMPIONSHIP Thomas Hearns 16-2-0 (11) KO6 Carlos Baldomir 6-10-2 (0) Thomas Hearns succesfully defended his world title for the third time, Carlos Baldomir did it well on some rounds but Herans power was too much for him. Hearns started at an accelerated pace conectting left jab followed by a straight right combinations. Near the end of the round one of this combinations dropped Baldomir for a two count. On round two and three Baldomir did a great job outworking Hearns and staying out of risk to win both stanzas. Hearns edged an actionless fourth round and on the fifth round he dropped Baldomir again with a great one-two combination seconds before the bell rang. On the sixth round Hearns was on an absolutly dominant position and he dropped Baldomir again with a right hook. After Baldomir got up Hearns dropped him again with a great left-right combination. An spent Baldomir got up again but only to be floored again (and for good) this time by a body shot followed by an uppercut to the argentine’s chin. At the time of the stoppage the scorecards were 48-45 (x2) and 48-46 for the champion Hearns. Also on the undercard: LW: Eduardo Morales 7-9-1 (3) KO9 Julien Lorcy 5-13-1 (3) FW: Diego Morales 10-4-1 (3) UD10 Wayne McCullough 6-11-0 (1) LHW: Bob Foster 11-3-0 (9) TKO5 Alex Hilton 2-15-0 (0) SMW: Byron Mitchell 8-11-1 (3) KO2 Vincenzo Nardiello 5-7-0 (3) MW: Gene Fullmer 9-5-1 (2) TKO8 Gennady Golovkin 5-10-1 (3) JLW: Brian Mitchell 5-6-2 (3) TKO10 Tracy Patterson 7-8-1 (2) BW: Carlos Zarate 15-4-1 (11) KO10 Thanomchit Sukothai 11-9-0 (4)* *Former title challenger carlos Zarate returned to the victory after two consecutive defeats. |

Robinson cruised for an easy third title defense
Crosley Field, Cincinnati, OH, United States, 2000-11-15
IBF WW CHAMPIONSHIP Ray Robinson 13-0-2 (10) UD12 Kermit Cintron 5-10-0 (3) Coming of a non-convincing performance against Gustav Eder in his previous outing Sugar Robinson needed to clean his image, and it was exactly what he did scoring a totally lopsided unanimous victory against an overmatched Kermit Cintron. In my opinion Robinson won every round of the fight. On some rounds like , one ,four, nine and twelve Cintron failed to land a single punch. Robinson also dropped Cintron on the elventh round with a clean left-righ combination. Cintron barely beat the count getting up at nine. My scorecard was 120-107 for Robinson, the judges were more generous with Cintron scoring it: 118-109 (x2) and 119-107 for the champion. Cofeature: FW TITLE ELIMINATOR Salvador Sanchez 16-3-0 (11) UD10 Eusebio Pedroza 15-3-3 (6) This two great fighters and former title challengers gave a very good fight. Sanchez dropped Pedroza on the first round. Then Pedroza did it well to almost evened the fight at its middle stages. But Sanchez finished the fight stronger than Perdroza to earn a convincing win. My scorecard was 97-93 for Sanchez. Now “Chava” secured a title chance for himself. Also on the undercard: HW: David Tua 10-5-0 (9) UD10 Pinklon Thomas 12-7-0 (6)* SHW: Hasim Rahman 15-5-0 (11) TKO8 Sherman Williams 5-12-1 (2) JWW: Lucas Martin Matthyse 6-4-0 (4) TKO5 Miguel Angel Cotto 15-4-0 (10)** WW: Paddy Duffy 4-11-0 (1) TKO8 Ike Quartey 9-3-0 (4) FLY: Pongsaklek Wongjongkam 10-8-3 (4) UD10 Peter Mathebula 4-14-0 (1) LW: Roberto Duran 13-2-1 (10) TKO7 Fabian Tejeda 6-11-3 (4) *Thomas first outing after beating Muhammad Ali didn’t finish with a happy end. ** Very big upset Mathyse is now very near of a title chance, most likely against his fellow argentine Marcos Maidana.
