Coming up to the trade deadline in 2012 with the Cubs.

Currently sitting 4 games behind both the Cardinals and Brewers on 48-54, 2 1/2 ahead of the Reds, 3 ahead of the Astros and 4 ahead of the Pirates.

I don't know what your needs are, but I'd make a move there. It's anyone's division, and 4 games is not insurmountable.

Yeah I think I have made a decision to go for it.

I had a few players on the block (Oswalt/Byrd/Marmol) with no bites, I had an offer to get Weeks from Oakland but meant giving up McNutt so I rejected.

Gonna see if I can get a piece (or two) and then attempt to overcome the Cardinals and Brewers for the title

Mets off to a hot start going 20-7. Santana 4-0 with two shutouts. Picked up Oswalt fot he relatively cheap price of $5.5 million and the addition of Reggie Willets insures that Jason Bay can sit his $16 million dollar butt on the bench.

Finished up Season 2 with the Tigers winning the central division comfortably and winning 96 games. I actually finished with the best PYT record in baseball (99-63), but Texas won 102 and Boston 99 games. We scored 808 runs (up 23 from last season) and only gave up 630 (57 fewer than last year).

We won 96 games despite losing Justin Verlander to Tommy John surgery in July, and then losing Max Scherzer to shoulder inflamation. They were my #1 and #2 starter, combined for 10 WAR and 25 wins. Verlander had the lowest ERA in the AL, 2.47. Scherzer was a cool 3.01 when he went down. The duo combined for 34 quality starts in 51 starts.

Michael Boyer finished the season 12-5 with a 3.37 ERA, including a 2.97 FIP and 4.7 WAR. Not bad for a 23 year old drafted as a reliever.

Batting wise, Prince Fielder had an incredible season, batting .319 with 40 HR and 121 RBI. He posted 7.7 WAR and a .431wOBA. Miguel Cabrera had a slight down season. He posted a .382wOBA with 31HR, but his poor defense limited him to just 3.9WAR (remember, he posted an 8.8 in only 110 games last year)

Yoenis Cespedes emerged as an elite player in the second half, posting a 5.5 WAR, including 25 HR and a .354wOBA, he hit another 3 HR in a 5 game series against Boston. He posted a nearly .900 OPS from July forward.

Lost in the ALDS to Boston in a nip and tuck 5 game series where 4 of the games were decided by 1 run.

After trying a few different leagues and not getting into them I decided to just use my New York Yankees with the MLB quickstart. Started out fighting for 1st place with Tampa and dealing with a ton of injuries, but now everyone is back and I've won 12 in a row! Sitting at 66-49, 3 games ahead of Tampa. Only made two FA/trade moves this season. I signed a midle reliever with decent ratings (can't remember who) who didn't work out well. Then I traded Andruw Jones and a minor league starter for Edinson Volquez and a better minor league starter. Volquez has not allowed a hit in 4 innings. We'll see how long I can continue this win streak.

Just finished the 1st year in my new fictional league.

A little background of it. The league is based in the Midwest (North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska). It's a 16 team league with two sub leagues, each have one division of 8 teams. One wildcard winner plus the League winner face off and then the World Series after that.

I took over the Cedar Rapids Cherokees after I simmed from 1970-1990 (deleted League history and erased player service time) and then from 1990-2011 offseason (20 years of history). Prior to the 2012 season, Cedar Rapids didn't have a season over .500 since 2003. My first year, I go 90-72 and lose in the first round of the playoffs. My owner was thrilled at my season and upped the budget to 112 million, up 6 million from 106 the previous year.

I have 4 soon-to-be free agents who are all expected to be Type A. I don't plan on re-signing any, but rather offer arbitration and hope a few decline so I can get some draft picks. Only one is under 30 years of age. 3 of the 4 are also SP (each one 10+ games), so it's a very risky move to let 3 of my 5 starting pitchers hit the market, but I figure I can sign some cheaper ones during FA and net a good amount of draft picks.

Finished 2012 as the Mets with the third-worst record in baseball at 67-95. Got off to an awful start in the first two months, so I started dumping players to try to clear salary and get some prospects. My biggest trade was sending Johan Santana, Manny Acosta (who was pitching very well), Andres Torres and two minor leaguers to Texas for Leonys Martin and Martin Perez, who were two of their top three prospects. Martin went right into the lineup at leadoff and hit .295 with good peripheral numbers. I also traded R.A. Dickey to Milwaukee for Nyjer Morgan, but I'm letting Morgan go via free agency at the end of the season.

The Cardinals repeated as World Series champs, beating the Indians. The Rays, Indians, Rangers, Nationals, Reds and Diamondbacks all won their divisions. The Yankees, Red Sox, Cardinals and Braves were the wild cards.

Cy Youngs went to Stephen Strasburg (20-6, 302 Ks in 220-some IP) and Yu Darvish (21-5, ERA around 2.50). MVPs went to Kemp and Pujols (don't know their numbers off hand). Rookies of the Year went to Jesus Montero (30 HR, 102 RBIs) and Anthony Rizzo (.290, 25 HR, 80-90 RBIs).

Didn't notice any wild trades other than a prospect (not a top 10 MLB prospect, but a 4-star potential guy) traded three times in six days. Bryce Harper was DEMOTED to Double-A early on and tore it up, but remained there all season. Roy Oswalt signed with Philly in late April and then signed a two-year extension after the season.

If I remember, I'll post any interesting offseason stuff when I go through that tonight.

I think I may have pulled off one ofthe greatest in season comebacks. I'm using the NABA quick starts as the Baltimore Blue Crabs. In 2004 we won the World Series in 9 games and my rosters stays mostly in tact. I trade on of my pitchers for a top 3B since my 3B left for free agency and trade my high power / low discipline CF for a younger player who should be a good lead off hitter. For the most part my team is under the age of 30.

I get off to a good start but then the injury bug strikes knocking out my 2B, 3 OF and my closer. I get to the point where I have to sign free agents just to have enough OF to play.

By the trading deadline despite expectation of the playoffs, I'm in 5th place and I think at the worst I was 11 1/2 games out of first place. Since my pitching was my strength, I trade one of my top pitchers a 26 yo who had 3.26 ERA this season, the 27 yo 2004 MVP who slumped in 2005 plus a 25 CF for a new 26 year old 1B and CF plus a AAA pitcher. These players have more years of control as I plan for the future since the players I trade area already headed to their 2nd year of arbitration.

However, by September I'm healthy again and rip off one of the greatest Septembers ever going 23-4. At point in the last week, there was a 3 way tie for first and the season ends with a two-way tie with Massachussetts. In the one game playoff we jump out to a 12-0 lead, but in the 9th inning, the Pilgrims score 9 runs to make it interesting, but in the end we are back in the playoffs. Now onto the Playoffs.

So I bought OOTP13 a couple weeks ago and I've been hooked ever since! Moreso than any other OOTP I've played. I wanted to create an epic leauge with a global feel so I created a 32 team World Baseball Association featuring teams from major cities from all over the world.

I organized the league into to leagues of 16 teams each, configured in a similar fashion to the NFL with 4 divisions of 4 teams per league. The Western International League covers cities like New York, Toronto, Mexico City, London, Paris, Barcelona, Caracas, Santiago while in the Eastern International League you have teams from India to Eurasia, Central Europe and Oceania, such as Melbourne, Sydney, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai, Moscow, Istanbul and even Dubai, as well as Cairo and Johannasburg in Africa.

I ran the fist 40 years to establish some history for the league and get some folks into the Hall of Fame, and there were some interesting results. Melbourne has the record for most playoff appearences with 16, and won the title 4 times, while Los Angeles is the most successful team with 6 championships, yet New York has the highest winning percentage and won the first title of the inagural season. Seoul was the most dominant team with a string of Eight straight playoff appearences and 4 titles within that time frame during the middle years of the leauges history.

I took over the hapless London Monarchs, among the three worst teams in the league, along with the Singapore Slingers and the Bangkok Bombers. London resides in the Western International Leagues Atlantic Division along with Barcelona, Rome and hated rivals Paris. The London Monarchs have only seen the post season three times in their history, the last time was 10 years before I came into the picture.

My first season was in 2052, and I took over a team filled with overpaid aging veterans. I made some moves including giving away my 1st round pick to get Dutch 26 yr old superstar pitcher Lando Andreassen, affectionaly known as the "The Flying Dutchman", I also picked up a free agent ace named Kazuhiro "The Grinder" Yokoyama, and suddenly I had a pretty potent pitching staff. I was happy to discover I also had a pretty good bullpen with some 4 and 5 star guys with some solid ratings and a veteran lights out closer named Carlos Torres.

At the start of the season we were picked to finish third, just ahead of Rome in our division. What actually happened was nearly a miracle! The Monarchs came out of the gate swinging and got off to a quick lead in the division and we would hold on to this position for almost the entire season!

An overachieving 29 year old Right fielder from Canada named Denis Genty who was picked up in the Rule 5 draft by the AI before I took over pulled out all the stops and had a career season, batting .256, but belting 27 home runs, knocking in over 80 runs and stealing 25 bases, and winning the gold glove for his play in Right Field. he was the feel good story of the year in London. Meanwhile, Lando lived up to his potential winning 21 games in dominating fashion leading the league with 221 strikeouts and and ERA of 2.79. In fact, my team lead the league in both starter ERA, and Bullpen ERA and defensively we couldn't be beat. Our offense struggled, especially in the dog days of August and September and I watched with horror as the Barcelona Knights who stumbled to start the season fought their way from 11 games back at the end of July and third place, all the way to 1 game back as the last week of September dawned.

I had a rough series against New York and my worst fear was realized as on the last day of the season, my injured and slumping Monarchs were forced to play a one game playoff with the Knights for the Division. I had to kick myself as I had Lando start earlier in New York in the hopes of securing a win and avoiding this situation, but despite a good game, my bullpen uncharacteristically let the game slip away and not only did he my best pitcher not get a win, he was also unavailable for this vital one game playoff!

Needless to say we lost in a nerve frazzling tight game 2 to 1. Barcelona would go on to win the divisional series against a very tough Mexico City team and win a respectable 2 games against the Juggernaut Toronto Maple Leafs, who themselves were shocked along with the rest of the world by a surprising Mosco Czars team who defended their 2051 title.

It was a bit of a heartbreaker, but I was proud of my guys and they really overachieved despite my Scout's negative opinion on the majority of the team (he was fired at the end of the season). I am now in the tumultous off-season of my second season and I'm trying to figure out how to not only repeat last years performance but improve upon it. I don't know if I can do it but one thing is certain, I'm really enjoying it!

The Expansion Draft helped us financially, we lost five players and most notably Soriano and his $18m a season contract.

MR Travis Wood (Victory)
MR Chris Volstad (Blue Claws)
MR James Russell (Victory)
LF Dave Sappelt (Blue Claws)
LF Alfonson Soriano (Blue Claws)

Kansas City dealt for Blake DeWitt and in return we got CL Derek Holland

With the money freed up after the expansion we went out and got Ervin Santana on a 2 year contract, $7m a season to improve our rotation.

Next up spring training

I just started at the helm of an expansion team, the Vancouver Whitecaps (gave the other team to Memphis and called them the Tennessee Stars). I must say, we are something awful. Tennessee was predicted to have a record above .500, and we were predicted to lose 137 games. While Tennessee is not living up to their end of the bargain at just below .500, we are certainly living up to ours at 5-22.

What strikes me as odd is that we actually have a pretty good roster and a phenomenal coaching staff. Tennessee and I had all-out bidding wars for a number of free agents, but I managed to land 2 four-star relievers, a 4.5 star starter, and Alex Gordon, who just injured himself in an off-field incident and is out for the bulk of the season. Combined with the fantastic young talent we got in the expansion draft, I don't think any member of our pitching staff, rotation or bullpen, is under 3.5 stars. Our bench is a bit weak, but the majority of our line-up is in the 3.5 - 4.5 star range. Nevertheless, we are not clicking, and are particularly bad at holding leads. At 5-22, I think it's going to prove to be a long and tough first season.

So I imported the 2011 season from 12 and ran it until the end of the 2011 season.

Now I must make my selection on which team to take control of. My one rule though is the team must be lacking a GM, so I won't be ousting some other GM. My choices based upon those criteria are:

Pittsburgh Pirates: Look promising though they finished 64-98 and last in the NL Central. On the positive side they have the 5th best ML system which gives me something to work with.

Houston Astros: Finished ahead of Pittsburgh at 73-89 but lacks the great ML system to build from.

Chicago White Sox: While this would feel like blasphemy as a Minnesotan the Sox are my third and final possibility. They finished 69-93 and like Houston lack a good ML system, but unlike Houston or Pittsburgh have a much better market which could let my build through FA.

Of the three Pittsburgh and the ChiSox are probably the two I'm stuck on since Houston lacks both the great ML system of Pittsburgh or the large market size of Chicago. Any suggestions?

Note to self: Princess Kenny was really off-putting.

Go with the Sox, it sounds like a fun game. With the 5th ranked minor league system, it won't be to hard to rebuild the Pirates.

Go for Houston! Challenge yourself. You'll not only have to get them winning again but you'll have build for the future as well.

Go with the Pirates. It's always fun to see whether a good ML system will actually develop.

I love uncovering a story in the game that I had no idea about.

Take Bart Lee for example.

Joined Port Redhill as a tender 17 year old Second Baseman in 2010 and made three appearances for the team in his rookie year, not registering a single hit in 7 ABs, striking out twice.

The following year he never left the reserve roster. Despite having the potential to be a real star he slipped in the Prospect rankings from 18th to 61st and looked almost certain to see his career play out in the lower leagues.

Then, in 2012 he has been asked to fill in for 37-year old Bryan Wilcox after he fractured his hand. In his first game he went 0-3 with a K and a walk. He registered his first hit the following day, going 1-3 with a run, K and a BB. But despite this, 6 games into his season he only managed to bat 3-19 including three hitless outings leading up to Port Redhill's game against the Cardinals on the 18th of this month. Hardly the sort of replacement that Wilcox needs to be worried about.

On the 18th however, the floodgates opened. Batting 7th in the line-up he grounded out to lead off the third, as his batting average continued to plummet until two innings later when he smacked a double (his first extra base hit, ever) past the diving third baseman. He touched home 2 batters later.

Leading off the 7th, he singled but returned to the dugout shortly afterwards on a Fielders Choice.

Bottom of the 9th, game locked at 4-4, where Port Redhill should've won this game easily but errors kept the visitors in it; the lead-off man doubled, before a first pitch single put men on the corners. Up steps 19-year old Bart Lee who belts a 3-run homer over Center Field on the first pitch he faces. It measured 427 feet for the walk-off win.

Despite his heroics, he was rested for yesterday's 3-1 loss to the Cards.

I've got another story of a young stud making his mark, that I might post about later. I love this game!
