11 seasons, 0 World Series titles..
![]() We had a 3-2 lead going into the 9th inning in game 5 of the NLDS this season and my closer gives up a two out HR to allow Cincy to tie the game. The same freaking guy hits another HR in the 11th to seal the deal. You would think I would have learned to use the "pitch around" option. |

No hard feelings. I've blown a 5 run lead in the ninth inning of a one-game playoff, so blowing a 1 run lead is nothing. |

nice post molarmite, but how about some more meaningful stats? I want OBPs, OPS (OPS+), VORP, WAR ect.. Average + HRs don't tell the story,
Side note, whats your budget sitting at? My budget right now is 166 mil, giving me room for a payroll around 130mil (after coaches, development ect..). With my 3 20 million dollar players (Verlander, Miggy, Prince) + V-Mart sitting at 15 million I was really feeling the pinch. I imagine you must be in a similar spot with 4 or 5 high $$$ players. |

If you're not going to be able to keep your SPs, I would trade them for prospects, just like in real life, and if you cannot get rid of your $20 million dollar dead weight, you may want to eat the salary this year, for the flexibility next year (also a common tactic in real MLB) Drop your ticket price, and switch to rebuild mode. The fans will react unfavorably, but you will be back in 3 to 4 years. As a Tigers fan, I never assume control of the Tigers: 1 ) too much emotional attachment 2) I may take it personally if I were fired 3) I don't agree with the way the game scouts my players 4) I scour the farm system looking for my favorite prospects but they're not there 5) As a Tiger fan who has remained loyal, even throughout the stretch from 93 to 06, and especially 03, I am at odds with the team's current course of action, which is similar to the Yankees (spend a ton of money) For these reasons, I usually assume control of some other mid-market team, if there is no expansion team available. Teams I've had success with: Oakland Athletics (easy) Kansas City Royals (Moderate) Minnesota Twins (tough) Tampa Bay Rays (difficult) Pittsburgh Pirates (nearly impossible)

Well, I was in the middle of my 2nd year draft in my Twins dynasty, and the nightmare happened. My computer decided to freeze up and all I could do was shut it off. Just over 20 rounds, with the number 1 pick, wasted, and for once in my life I felt like I was having a good draft
.Even worse, this somehow corrupted my save file, so my awesome multi year rebuilding project is... gone. Looks like I am going to start a couple more dynasties, one of which I may post on the dynasty reports section. For the record, somehow my old Padres dynasty is working, so at least I have one positive ...

Starting a new fictional game, I need help deciding what cities to use. It will be a 24 team league within the US. Here are the division set ups:
League 1 (name TBD): Atlantic Division: 1- 2- 3- 4- 5- 6- Midwest Division: 1- 2- 3- 4- 5- 6- League 2 (Name TBD): Mountain Division: 1- 2- 3- 4- 5- 6- Pacific Division: 1- 2- 3- 4- 5- 6- I just need city names as I will decide the nicknames and such. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! |

Actually, it's quite similar to mine, except I have Kansas City, and Toronto, instead of Nashville and Las Vegas.

Midway through season 2 with the Tigers I'm sitting at 47-34 with a cool 6.5 game lead over the Royals in the central.
I made quite a few moves in the first half of the season, most of them aimed at cutting down the budget. We entered the year with our payroll sitting around 133 million and over budget by a few hundred thousand dollars. Since the AL Central was weak I knew I had some wiggle room talent wise to put myself in better financial shape. The first move was to Seattle, shipping setup man/closer Joaquin Benoit (25 IP in 2012: 29k, 8BB, 3HR) and his 5.5 million dollar salary to Mariners. In that deal I also shipped a trio of minor league lifers who were making the league to get them off the books. In return I picked up Shawn Kelley (who was in AAA), Chance Ruffin (whom the Tigers actually traded last year in the Fister deal) and a throw away reliever to eat innings in AAA (but who was not on a big league deal). I got Kelley back just to eat up innings, and he's been alright. 25 innings, 24K, 10BB, 3HR. Chance Ruffin has been off the charts. 27 innings, 41k/17bb/1HR. 0.65 ERA. ------------------------------- My next move was shipping Doug Fister (16-12, 3.80ERA last year) and Victor Martinez to Seattle for Yoenis Cespedes (.231/.282/.352/.634, 75 OPS+ last year). Fister was made expendable due to the emergence of Michael Boyer as my #5 starter. Cespedes was traded to replace Austin Jackson, who was off to a horrendously slow start. In total I saved about 11 million dollars. 8 million this year, 8 million next season and then I add about 5 million dollars in the 3rd year. ------------------------------------- Following that I shipped Austin Jackson to Atlanta for Freddie Freeman. I signed Ajax to a 3 yer deal (2 million, 2.5mil, 3 mil), but shipping away V-mart opened up a DH spot and Freeman makes the league minimum (3.8WAR player in 2012). Freeman is a 1st baseman, Prince moves to DH. ------------------------------------- I also made a challenge trade of 4th OFs, shipping Jerald Head to San Francisco for Josh Reddick. Head is a better hitter, Reddick a better fielder...neither is a real starter. My lineup currently sits at (paranthesis= wOBA) 1) C Avila (.352) 2) CF Cespedes (.326) 3) 3B Cabrera (.384) 4) DH Fielder (.400) 5) LF JD Martinez (.369) 6) 1B Freeman (.318) 7) SS Peralta (.357) 8) RF Reddick (.278) 9) 2B Roberts (.325) OF-Andy Dirks (.298) IF-Danny Worth (.305) Rotation (IP, FIP) Verlander 127, 2.46 Scherzer 110, 2.94 Boyer 72, 2.58 Turner 94, 3.81 Porcello 94, 4.50 Bullpen (IP, FIP) Lowe 38.1, 3.67 Ruffin 31, 2.97 Alburquerque 30.2, 2.35 Kelley 23.1, 3.89 Total Payroll: 115 million. Budget Room 6 million. |

Interesting dilema I'm facing.
I have 4 players to fill 2-3 spots (1B/DH...and 3B). All ratings are CON/POW/EYE on a 2-8 scale. Miguel Cabrera (1B/3B). 20 million, 30 years old. SCOUT: 6/6/4 OSA: 7/7/6 3 year wOBA: .420, .459, .367 2012 WAR: 8.1 2013 WAR: 1.6 (half season) Prince Fielder (1B DH). 22million. 29 years old. SCOUT: 6/7/6 OSA: 5/6/5 3 year wOBA: .386, .398, .411 2012 WAR: 6.2 2013 WAR: 3.9 Freddie Freeman (1B DH). Entering Arb. 23 years old. SCOUT: 6/6/5 OSA:7/7/5 3 year wOBA: .344, .358, .321 2012 WAR: 3.8 2012 WAR: 0.7 Augusto Gonzales (1B DH). 23 years old. 1st round draft pick last year. SCOUT: 5 (6)/ 4 (5)/ 4 (5) OSA: 6 (8)/ 4 (7)/ 5 (8). wOBA in AAA, .449 in 2012 and .380 in 2013. wOBA in ML, .318 in 100 ABs over 2 years. Cabby is a poor defensive 3B, but can play there. Fielder is terrible on D. Freeman is a solid defensive 1B. Gonzales has basically no defensive ratings. Obviously I need to move someone (and Cabby has 10/5 rights, not to mention his prohibitively expensive contract). |

In real life, the Tigers have Miguel at 3b, and he's doing ok. He's still not as good defensively as Inge was, but that's a can of worms....
However, once upon a time, Cabrera played left field. In reality, he's too fat and slow to play there anymore, but you could try it in OOTP world to see if it works. Aside of the financial aspect, I would take the veterans over your 2 rookies any day.

2012 and 2014 playoffs with a .500 winning percentage? That division must be worse than the real life AL central.

Hey guys,
Been a "lurker" here for some time now and I am really enjoying this thread. I have played OOTP off/on for the last several years. I even recognize a few guys (Sven Draconian & Mizzourah) in this thread from another community I am part of. Anyway, I just started a 2012 Rays franchise. I'm a Tampa native and chose my name based off the city's history in the Cigar industry and the fact that the Rays are my favorite team. Hoping to contribute to the thread and really enjoy reading everyone's updates! |

Already struggling a bit. We've lost Desmond Jennings for 3-4 weeks with a intercostal injury. Just lost Pena for 3-4 months with a fractured fibula. Brining up Cuban 1B Juan Miranda for the time being. He is tearing it up in Durham and deserves a shot. Scott can also handle the duties at 1B if needed.
