Player editing
Hey Guys,
I am relativley new to OOTP 13 specifically and generally ootp series. I was a former Season Ticket Baseball guy for years. I have one question, I always "cheat" once when I start a game and create /edit a player for Nolan Ryan my personal Favorite. Of course to create/edit a player to Nolan Ryan I need to edit the ratings as such but I am having a hard time getting this particular edited player in ootp 13 to give me the desired results in particular with K's. There is no "Strikeout" rating just simply Stuff and movement and control. As well when I attempt to enter in the K's per ininngs it always tops out at 327 per about 250 innings......which would be the desired result except ......this version of Nolan Ryan is barley at 1K per inning. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I am looking for Ryan to be pushing 300K's per 220 innings or so. Just looking for some guidance as the editor is a little confusing to me. Not looking for much...just want Ryan to Strikeout 300 men in a season like old times. Thanks Guys |

When you edit the stat line it should give you accurate results more or less. I have a pitcher who i tried to make like Steve Carlton. So far thru 11 season he is just a shade over 3000 K 200 Wins. He did have 1 season at 400 K.
Pitchers are easier to get correct then batters. If you give your guy 2 great pitches 200 FB and say 180 SL then say 100 CB and then edit his current and potential it will change the pitch quality slightly but he should be fairly accurate in what you want him to do. You may have to tweak him each season. Another thing you can do is Import Nolan Ryan, clone him using using Real stats and then change his name. I do this instead of creating players from scratch. I have very good success at this and i use neutralized stats. Last edited by The Game; 05-03-2012 at 11:08 PM. |

There is a 'clone player' feature that makes this much easier. Go into the free agent list and use the option to import a historical player. Then 'clone' that player. This creates a second copy that is a fictional version with no real life stats, but the same starting ratings and potential.

Nolan Ryan Statistics and History - Baseball-Reference.com Put yourself in Commish mode. Go to Free agents or from the Draft Pool screen (if you are at that point in your season) and click import Player on the bottom right. If it doesn't already come up you want to navigate your way to the OOTP 13 Folder - stats and select historical database.odb. Type in Ryan's Lahman database ID which is in the SHTML ryanno01 select the year, say 1972 in which he led the league with 329 K. Right below that is real or neutralized stats and many other options. I also use Use Remaining Years of Career. I usually don't mess with anything else. Here is some more on importing historical players Out of the Park Baseball Manual |

So this is driving me insane....almost ruining the game for me. I cannot get this pitcher (Nolan Ryan Clone) from his best years to get anywhere the way I want him.....his ERA is routinley below 2.00....but his k's per 9 are garbage. Which you would think is fine...but i wanted a Nolan Ryan clone ..mostly for the K's....not some pitcher with a 1.86 ERA.
I try to edit more n more but simply put you cannot seem to edit a pitcher above 327K's for 248 ininngs. Even though he is set at this he just doesn't seem to get the K's. I would greatly exagaerate the stats so it would reflect a guy who routinely had 10-11+ k's per nine.................but it won't even let me do that. Anyone have any other ideas ....or see where I may be going wrong? Thanks again |

You could always load the Copperstown quickstart and copy that Nolan Ryan ratings.
I've always found that has higher ratings then importing the player and lets him come closer to the K mark you are looking for |
