"Never Pinch Hit For This Player" Unless the CPU wants to
A couple of questions on some things that are REALLY aggravating me in one of my online leagues.
First, I have one of my star players set under Team Strategies to "Never Pinch Hit For This Player". And yet, I just had the computer pinch hit for him during our latest sim. What the ? Now granted, we were winning 9-0 in the 5th inning and he was 0 for 3 but still...what's the point in having the option if the computer's going to do it anyway? Am I the only person to have this happen? Secondly, I have had another problem with this same player. He plays CF and I have all 4 options on the depth chart set for his backup to play 13% of the time. Strangely enough, the computer has started the backup player 4 times in the first 18 games for a 22% replacement pctg. Seems a little high to me compared to the 13% I have it set to....and worse yet...3 of those 4 games were during the first 6 games of the season - back to back to back. Admittedly, the star player was fighting a Day to Day injury during the 3 game stretch, but the computer shouldnt be replacing him for that, should he? I mean, I know the computer replaces them when they get hurt DURING the game, but if it's only Day To Day, they should play the next game, right? And even more strange is the fact that when the computer replaces this guy in the lineup, he messes a little bit with the batting order, putting his replacement in the lineup at #5 instead of #3. Was there an update to OOTP5 that has the computer figure out the best lineup when a player is subbed in? I know it has been talked about, but I'm pretty sure it hasn't been implemented, right? What is going on here? Surely I am not the only person who has experienced this? Does anyone have any answers? I CAN'T WORK UNDER THESE CONDITIONS!!!

The "Never pinch hit for this player" thing I find a bit frustrating too. Also I turn down the pinch hit for position players and the pinch run options on the team strategy area, yet it still happens. I guess in the end it all works out how it should, but I wouldn't mind the option to limit it even more.

Regarding "never pinch hit for this batter": According to Steve Kuffrey, this is a new addition and this element needs to be worked on. It is not functioning as it was intended. Something is amiss.
He said the development team is aware of the problem. We'll just have to be patient. They get hundreds of complaints and suggestions. The OOTPB guys try very hard to please us. Regarding the depth charts, I find that it works out pretty good over the entire season, but sometimes not in the short run. I usually put no more than one player at each position in the depth chart with a maximum of two players...and in general, this has given given my subs the percentage of play that I was hoping for. I disable injuries and fatigue, so substitutions may work differently for you. |

One thing I noticed, is that if I have a player who I have listed as "never pinch hit for" but have a player as a defensive replacement in the depth chart, they still get lifted for a PH.

That's an interesting point, HolyCow. I was wondering the same thing and have taken out this player's defensive replacement AND sub on the depth chart. I am HOPING this will solve all problems...but who knows.
..of course, then when this player gets tired it'll be a MESS trying to sit him down for a game and get him back in the lineup, but i guess players get tired even when you have the depth chart set for them to get a rest so it's nothing I'm not used to.

yeah...and I forgot to mention...that I just have not noticed it in my online leagues using V5, so at this point that is only about 300 games...and it may have slipped through and I just didn't catch it...but I "feel" it deters it at the very least.

In the cases where there are no players listed in the defensive replacement portion of the depth chart and also listed as never pinch hit..that is.

Have no defensive sub and put in a backup with a 2% starting rate....that works for me.
But the never PH for this player doesn't work unless you put PH for position players into the lower 25% of the sliding bar

The never pinch hit option was actually buggy
This is fixed in the upcoming patch (which should be released Monday, btw) |
