Talking New to Baseball, New to OOTP, New to everything!

Hi All,

New guy from the UK here.

Have only recently started following baseball after the Red Sox's own Mr Henry and Mr Werner decided to buy Liverpool FC.

As a long time fan of the FM series, I remembered a few years ago they also had a Baseball series - and a quick 2 minute google search last night landed me with OOTP 13.

I've had a quick half hour last night having a scan over - and wow! Complex!

I'm sure I'll pick up quite quick, but aside from the Video tutorials, are there any "Newbie Guides" around?

Look forward to getting lost within this game!

Say, are you new here? Just kidding.

Yes, that's right. The last one is to these here forums. Spend as much time as you can here looking through them; they are a gold mine of information.

Thanks!

Will definitely have a read of the manual when I get home from work, and I'm slowly making my way around the forums. (Plenty of posts being bookmarked for future reads!)

One question I do have from a quick play around last night is this - being a Football Manager veteran - I'm used to playing all matches.

Last night I managed to play 2 games, while to computer 'simmed' about 15. How do I get it so I get the choice to play?

You have to manually go to the schedule and choose "Manage Game" to play it out. Otherwise, when you advance the date, the game(s) will be simulated for you.

You must consider that Baseball is a daily activity; 162 games in 180 days give or take. I'm not trying to dissuade you from playing every game but you may learn more by combining sims with played out games. Watching player development, hot streaks, cold steaks and dealing with injury and bad play are sometimes easier to observe from above the fray. The beauty of the game is in your choices.

I have quickly realised there are a lot of games - I think i wanted to observe a few from the front line to get a handle on whats going on.

Happily my first game resulted in a 9-2 win for the Fort Myers Red Sox against the Port Charlotte(?) Rays!

Still loads to take in, but think im slowly getting there!

A quick question i want to ask though, as a 'manager' of a lower league team, is it possible to hire people?

No, in both senses. You do not hire coaches, nor do you sign players, when playing as a minor league manager.

More a case of the GM making decisions for you and giving you the players to play?
