starting out...a few basic questions

Hey I'm brand new to this game and just purchased version 13. I have a few basic questions for anyone who can help me.

First off, I want to start like a mini-dynasty, and pick a team and stick with them for 5 years, lets say 05 tribe-10' tribe. What I want to know is if I can do this? Can I go from year to year and build up my team?

And if I can do that....how do draft picks work? Lets say I have a really bad record my first year, and get the #1 pick, is it like the real #1 pick in real life? For example, 2010 i believe was when Bryce Harper was drafted, lets say I play the 09 season and have the worst rec, and have the #1 pick, do I get to draft Harper? Is that the way it works?

And the last question, it says the game uses current stats up to that point in the career, or complete career stats, so it doesnt seem like they offer just the current year stats, is this correct? If this is the case then how would they rate a player like Harper cause they have the 2012 rosters on their as well? If Harper is on the roster and has never had a ML at-bat before, how can they rate him?

Thanks to whoever can help me, really appreciate it.

Welcome to ootp13! If you like baseball you'll love this game. Its very realistic and has almost everything real baseball does.

The message boards are awesome and most posters are very knowledgeable and helpful, I am neither.

Il try to help, I'm kind of new too and I might be off a bit.

1. You can start in any era(not sure if you can pick an exact year) and manage/play as long as you want. You can do this under historical play option on the main menu.

2. Yes, that's exactly how they work.

3. Not sure.

Not very helpfull I know, but someone will be able to explain more good luck.

If you play a historical game, player ratings can be based on the current season (1-year recalculation), a three-year range that includes the previous, current, and next season (3-year recalculation) or a five-year range. For selected ratings like defensive ability and pitcher stamina, the ratings can be based on the player's entire career if you'd like. Or they'll be based on the options stated previously.

As for current players who are rookies in 2012, they are rated based on scouting reports and projections that are reviewed by a team of people that tries to produce the most accurate and realistic ratings possible. It probably won't be perfect for everyone, but it's based on reliable sources.

Can users alter player ratings?

Can a user in a single player vs AI game alter selected ratings to see how they would play out eg for rookies like Harper who had not played as of 2012 but are now accumulating an ML track record?

You can go in to commissioner mode and edit pretty much anything.... Then back out of it if you like.
