No wonder I don't come on these boards, you guys are arrogant a-holes
Then get some manners and don't post inaccurate overblown thread titles. I enjoy helping people on this forum and think I have a fairly good reputation for doing so. It's annoying to see a perfectly fine operating feature being trashed by someone who doesn't know enough about it to turn it off.

Was simply asking, "how do I turn off the rule five draft?", too difficult?

That being said, welcome to the boards.

Just an observation, but if you're at all sincere about maintaining some modicum of a community here, how about dropping the "post count" drivel? Post counts are COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT in terms of determining what makes sense and what doesn't. A person with 5,000 posts is just as capable of trolling a forum (go spend some time reading the hatred and crap at Welcome to RedsZone.com - Home to Fans of the Cincinnati Reds for an example of this) as a person with 2 posts is capable of turning everyone on their collective heads with some great idea.

Post counts and thanks show who participates and how much as well as providing a rough measure of how useful to the community they have been while doing so (see Justafan's or LGO's thanks for a pair of good examples).I rarely find anything of value in anything posted by someone with a low post count, though there have been a few notable exceptions.

I don't agree. Some members of this board can have a clique mentality. I don't agree with the original poster though he was a tad harsh. Most of the guys on here can be helpful if they want to be. I really couldn't care less about post numbers, as long as a question gets answered quickly and accurately it doesn't matter if he has 1 or 10000 posts.

Case in point, mm is a quality member and averages less than a quarter of a post per day.

And you essentially just dola'd yourself. I don't know if it's an acronym (and if it is, I don't know what it stands for), but the only capacity in which I've seen it used is to start an intentional double post.

Disagree all you want, but I'm telling you that a post from a guy with thousands of posts and hundreds of thanks is much, much, more likely to contain something of value than one from a guy with only a few of either. And that's not a clique mentality speaking, that's just the way it is. A high post count comes from participation and a high thanks count comes from posting things that people found valuable enough to say thanks for. Essentially it's a proven track record and a valid predictor of general competence and quality.

I was just pointing out the guy went nuts pretty much right out of the gate. He hasn't been around or participated in this board very much at all, and felt perfectly fine to call us all garbage. He had a very low boiling point as it were, didn't take much for him to go total psycho.

And dola is just that, posting, and then posting again right after. It is an old OOTP saying, the vets around here will know dola very well. It was named for a user who used to do it all the time. Dolamite I believe.

While I completely agree that the op went off a bit to far (and dont agree with what he did) I also find it completely foolish to "poke a lil fun" without answering the question !!

Post count...REALLY again ???????
Life is hilarious !!!!!

Real simple you all see how the thread has played out thus far...how would it have played out if a " a lil fun was poked" while at the same time his questioned would have been answered....???

Apparently theres different rules for different threads,
then again what do I know...I have LOW POST COUNT !!

So apparently you have only found 71 posts of value while here ??
EDIT thats probably not true Wolf coz I would assume the "thanks" and "thanked" feature wasn't around all that time either, so disregard that question.

You of all ppl should know better than to more or less right someone off(so to speak) due to post count.
History anyone ????
So a question from a person with a low post count doesn't have much value ??
I'll tell you what, before I purchased this game I had read about this forum in 5 different forums all of which stated the same types of comments pertaining to these forums and quite honestly I didn't see what they were saying, but now after spending more time here I'm beginning to see what they might have been talking about. While I don't agree with them totally yet, there certainly does seem to be what.....a type of elitism I guess I'd call it.
Ohh boy I'm a big shot on an internet forum.....oh wait my post counts not high enough yet...

btw the last paragraph isn't directed at anyone in general just an observation from my time here.
I can't help but think about some type of correlation between post count and...pay your fair share in taxes...how can fair be fair if someone else is deciding whats fair ? Fair is only fair when everyone pays the same percentage ! yea ok don't know how I'm tying those two points together yet.... lol

Oh for the love of...

Look, nothing was made of post counts. In fact, as far as post counts are usually thrown around as a credential, that situation doesn't even make sense here.

I made the comment because the guy went nuts in so short a time. He has posted only a few times, and here we have a bulk of them, and a majority of them are attacks, quite vicious too (compared to the normal banter on these boards).

So everyone, knock it off with the post count nonsense. It is taking an already off topic tangent well beyond the realm of off topic. You are not even in the same universe here as what was being said.

I dont think dola was ever against the rules. It was just a term to describe a thing.

The real way to dola was to do it your self.

Such as, you would post something. Then you would make another post right away, but would preface it with "dola".

This is an excellent point, by the way. Needing to protect your valuable minors who might be taken in the draft, and needing to manage your 40-man roster accordingly, are important challenges in this game. Turning Rule 5 off is not realistic, but then again, I have signing bonuses turned off (I can't stand losing a high draft choice)!

Bottom line Cras he didn't go off on the community till there was a handful of "poking fun" before the question was even answered !!
Still not a good reason to be as harsh as he was (in my opinion)
But to lay all the blame at his door is rather short sighted imo

Also to HIM he considers the rule 5 draft useless, so is that wrong ?
Thats his opinion and last I checked he's allowed to have one...

The problem was his entire approach to the thread, and the question.

As someone else said, had he simply come in and asked how to turn the rule 5 off, the question would have been answered in short order and that would have been the end of it.

But he didn't. Instead he went off on a mini-rant, then went off again when someone had the audacity to point it out. Then insulted the entire board for doing what he was actually guilty of doing right from the start.

Sometimes you reap what you sow, and this appears to be one of those times.

You don't understand what I have been saying at all. It's not that someone without a proven track record here can't post something valuable - as I wrote, some of them have - but that it's far less likely that they will do so in compsrison to a well-thanked veteran. The best indicator of future behavior is past behavior, and that guy with the really low post count? There's a chance that he might just possibly be the next RchW, but it's far, far more likely that he's the next Jeff613.

starting to beat a dead horse here and guess I'll just leave at that after this, but I fail to see how this is "wrong" or posted "inappropriately"

title...."rule 5 draft = useless"

or this...

"The rule 5 draft is a waste of time, and slows the simulation down substantially. Considering there's maybe a handful of players with a 1 1/2 star rating available if that, what's the point in keeping it in the game other than realism?

There should be an option to skip this altogether as it's a momentum killer and pretty irrelevant in general.

Is there already an option to turn it off or to simulate it without having to stop it?

Sorry if this is a repeat question but if it is it shows how frustrating it is to stop simulating just to auto-draft through it anyhow."

I just took it at face value, it was slowing the simulation down for him and to him the option was useless.
I mean what more can be read into that ?
how can that be in bad taste or come across wrong...and hes called touchy ??? I must have missed something somewhere.
Again I'm in no way justifying his rant after that.

On the other hand I am glad that others chimed in and not only answered but gave reasons why to them the rule 5 draft plays a important part to them and works pretty much like it should !!
Im a boob I mean noob lol and those are the posts that help me and many others learn along the way.
Kudos to those that do !!
Again I'll just leave the issue alone, but I still fail to see what he said wrong in his original post ?
Maybe others can show me....his words are there so it shouldn't be hard.

It's already been pointed out in this thread that newbies look for info. If one of them sees a thread titled Rule5 Draft = useless that is not challenged they may be put off using this quite valuable feature in some leagues that really need it. It's bad form by any measure I can think of.

There is absolutely no justification in my opinion for making stupid and incorrect statements about the game in a thread title. One is of course entitled to an opinion, but place it in the body of of the post.
