Creating First League

Howdy,

I have played in OOTP online leagues for many years. Now I've decided that I want to run my own. I believe I have the technical answers I need, so I only need help with the OOTP League creation.

Here is what I would like to do:

1. Start in 1990 with accurate team rosters, including minors.
2. Every draft year, conduct a draft that at least contains the key draftees from the real life draft that season.
3. Continue to run the league through present.

I have downloaded Player Images, Logos, Databases, etc.

What do I need to do now?

Does the Gambo database include every major league player through 2012?

How do I use the database?

Would I be better served with creating a custom league or should I start it as historical?

I don't think you can start a league in 1990 with accurate minor league franchises without editing/adding them yourself. (I could be wrong and/or there could be a quickstart somewhere that would work; not sure.)

As for how to use the database, in addition to the actual instructions for using the custom database (as opposed to the ones that come with the game) there are a number of settings and things to consider. So I would recommend scouring these two forums:

OOTP 12 - Historical Leagues - OOTP Developments Forums
OOTP Mods - Database Tools - OOTP Developments Forums

Look for threads that, in particular, reference Spritze and Gambo databases. That is where you will find your goldmine of info, including key tidbits by the db authors themselves.

In fact, I would start with this thread: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...bs-ootp11.html. It just might include everything you'll ever want to know about the modded db's and how to use them.

To answer the question in your second post, it sounds like you'll want to create a historical league (since you didn't mention any deviations from MLB setup). And regarding item #2 in your first post, there is a setting somewhere (I am not in front of the game) that imports new players to their original teams. You'll want to uncheck that so you can have a draft.
