Tech Question?: Pinging while playing?

I have a limited data plan and I'm wondering when I play iOOTP, is it using the network for some reason, or just playing within device?

The only time iOOTP will use your network connection is when you use Game Center and the game submits your score. Thats once after each season and the data amount should be minimal.
