My Uncle Jack passed away in February at age 89. He had links to two major leaguers from his hometown, Swoyersville, PA, Adam Comorosky and Harry Dorish. Comorosky was a star outfielder with the Pittsburgh Pirates (In 1930 he hit over .300, with over 100 RBI and led the league in Triples with 23), was my uncle's neighbor, and he was much revered by my uncle and all the local kids.
My uncle was a pretty good ballplayer and growing up he played AS A TEAMMATE AND AS AN OPPONENT of Harry Dorish in high school and amateur ball. Dorish was signed by the Boston Red Sox and after World War Two military service had a decade in the majors as a successful pitcher (1947-1956). He was a reliever, but was pretty successful as a spot starter also. If all-star teams were selected by today's procedures Dorish probably could have been an all-star in both 1952 and 1953, his best seasons. Casey Stengel the all-star manager those years, however, paid little attetnion to relievers in making his selections for those year's all-star games, picking only one reliever each of those years (Satchel Paige). With or without all-star status, Dorish was still an outstanding pitcher, who Minnie Minoso called "the heart and soul of our pitching staff", due to Dorish's "rubber arm" and ability to start or relieve during his stint with the White Sox between 1951 and 1955.

Sorry for being such a Newbie! When I first joined this forum in late May 2011 (about 11 months ago) I didn't even notice that there was a Thanks Icon in each box.
