The most improbable thing you have seen in your game with current players?
In 2015, Matt Capps went to Colorado and they converted him to a starting pitcher. He pitched 162.0 innings with a 3.83 ERA. Following the offseson, the 32-year old picked up a $39,400,000 3-year contract from Detroit.

Well I simulated the 2012 season (MLB quickstart) and the Cardinals and Braves were tied for the second WC spot and had to play a tie breaker. Cards put Wainwright on the mound and won, advancing to the WC game were they started Carpenter and won again, advancing to the division series. So far nothing out of the ordinary. But then they set up a three man playoff rotation with Jason Motte as their no 1 pitcher! Motte had been their closer and hadn't started any games that year. And his stamina was only 3 out of 20. In the NLCS he then started game 2 and came back for game 4 on two days rest! Later on he again started on short rest. Very strange as Cards had Lohse and Garcia available as well both with good stats and ratings. Never seen something like that before in OOTP. In another simulation I saw the Rays converting Fernando Rodney into a starter as well.
In the league set-up you can select how the AI should evaluate players. If you select use according to RL stats relievers are less likely to be converted into starters. AI doesn't know names off course it only sees ratings. Still strange that they would turn a closer with a stamina of only 3 into a starter at the beginning of the play-offs. |

In the 2012 season GMing the Nationals and the Red Sox are in first place!! Something like 20-10, not only in first place but great pitching and lots of offense. We all know thats basically the complete opposite as real life.

I haven't seem too much out of the ordinary, besides the last few seasons 2013-2014 the pitchers' stamina has really jumped...guys pitch complete games quite often...even extra innings...
I jumped on here just now because I just lost 31-year old Ryan Braun...the cornerstone of my franchise (Brewers) to career ending torn labrum...the year is 2015...I won the World Series over the Blue Jays in 2014. Ryan has been stellar of course...and a real bargain on his long contract extension. Braun is the best player I've seen in my game to be lost to a career-ending injury. Most of the others were very young players. I remember Tommy Hanson was probably the most established player lost previously. Guess I really have to find that next MVP. Braun just came off his second MVP season in 2014 and a World Series victory. Career cut very short. |

This happens because the AI puts out their "best" lineups whenever possible
If you have 4 good starters one junk starter a bunch of average middle relievers and two top flight closers with 3-4 pitches and little stamina, the AI will be inclined to sometimes convert one closer into an SP. Because to the AI a 75-80 pitch solid outing is better than a 90-100 pitch junk outing. I usually see this on teams that have weak 4 and 5 starters and elite set-up and middle relievers with 3 or more pitches. Capps has the same things happen in 11 and 12 too. He actually doesnt fare too bad as a starter. I usually see him converted to starter in 60% or so of MLB quickstarts and ive seen him put up 15+ win sub-3.50 ERA seasons |

Detroit is now using Capps strictly as a closer in 2016.
I'm guessing Colorado had a really weak rotation and that's why they used him? |

This has to be a Matt Capps thing. In my universe started with the MLB QS in v11, in the 2017 playoffs, Capps started 3 games (after having 43 saves in the regular season) was 2-0 and also had 2 saves in that Championship run. Only time in his career he has started games. This season (2019) he just came off a 12 month injury and I see he started 6 games in AAA during rehab and was inserted into the SP role on the team. This will be the first time in his career he has started a game in the regular season (his stamina is a 3/10). Miami does have a closer who is having an excellent season and a great bullpen, so it's quite an interesting move by the AI. |

Yeah, a few seasons previous 2013-2014, when I would ask the AI to setup my pitching staff, it would always put Johnny Venters at the top of the rotation! Also in league positional reports, I was always number 1 in starters and relievers based on Venters. I never tried him out in SP because he eventually supplanted Axford as my closer.
