Who To Take #2?
Who should I take #2 overall? I am going for SP as the Twins system is very limited with SP. I have a few that I am deciding between....

Of those, Kevin Wood. He's a lefty and has good potential across the board along with high stamina.

Wood seems like the best of the bunch, but Lopez would be a good choice too, everyone else seems to have a glaring flaw in either Stamina, Control, or Ground Ball rate

I'd dig a little bit more. What's their health status? Durable?
I'd seriously consider drafting Tim Ford. He's three years older, and that means he's got less of a chance of blowing out a ligament in his arm. I'd also love to see their actuals. If it takes Ford 2 years to be major league ready, and Wood six, Ford would give you more flexibility because he's going to have options and Wood would not. Of course, if Wood follows the Dwight Gooden plan, he's not going to take six seasons of seasoning. |

1) Wood. Lefty who throws that hard and has the most consistent ratings across the board. If you're not looking for the quick fix, he's your man.
2) Jose Corona. Another lefty who holds runners on well, and keeps the ball on the ground as well as he does...wow. Another plus-plus guy. 3) Carlos Perez. Yeah, he can't hold people, but he'll keep the ball on the ground, and has the greatest potential of plus pitches available. |

Kevin Wood. His velocity is at 96-98 and he's only 18 so it's very likely to improve as he develops.

Agreed, that Wood is probably the safest choice, but if AC Slater manages to develop a fastball he could have a devastating arsenal, and an amazing GB rate (75% for a SP!! Wow!)
Edit: Just for clarity, by AC Slater I mean Lopez... forgive me for being old. Last edited by daveawrit; 04-21-2012 at 03:18 PM. |

I would consider daveawrit's point... I am waiting for the next patch before I buy v13, but at least in the past versions, I never underestimate the power of ground balls. Strikeouts are overrated next to almost no homers surrendered and a ton of double plays. |

T Ford is the safest choice. Drafting an 18 yr old is always a risk. I always prefer taking college guys in rounds 1 and 2

I ended up taking Kevin Wood with the 2nd overall pick. My first season as Twins didn't go well (70-92), so I have the 4th overall pick this coming season. I figure this will be a 4-5 year rebuilding plan.
