Generating an Alternate History
Hey gang,
glad to be a new OOTP player. I'm not sure if this paints me as a dumbface, but there's one thing I want to do that I can't see being obvious from the menus. What I'd like is essentially an 'alternate universe' MLB, from as far back in the past as possible, ideally 1871, simulating a complete history of baseball to the present day, where I'd take the helm of a modern MLB team of alt universe fictional players. Basically I want the experience of learning a simulated universe's history, but keeping the real world expansions and mergers and what-have-yous. How would I go about doing this? I feel like it has to be there in the menus somewhere but I can't seem to put my finger on it. Can someone tell me just what to click so I can leave my computer alone overnight and come back to some parallel universe baseball? Thanks! |

Difficult from 1871-1900, because OOTP has trouble with folding franchises. Because of this the default start for these years already has all 16 AL and NL teams. You could either accept that, or you'd need to manually make the changes until 1901.
From 1901 and up it's easy. I forget the exact terminology at the moment, but there's an option under 'historical' to have the league automatically expand as time passes. It'll take care of such things as rising finances, the switch to free agency in '76, new divisions and playoff structures and so forth. |

The easiest way to do that is to create a 1871 historical league.
When you get to step 7 of the creation wizard, click on advanced settings, select the league go in historical options tab and uncheck import historical rookies. Start the game. go in league options, there should be a randomize players name in the in the functions page. click it. Since it's a 1871 game the game will go through an inaugural draft. It's the easy way. The problem is that the game can't automatically fold teams, so the leagues aren't team and schedule accurate until 1901. Also, the game doesn't manage affiliations and minor leagues. |

Thanks folks. Woke up this morning to a whole 'nother universe on my hard drive.
The trick was really that I hadn't realized that 'simulate to date...' was something you could use to go past the current year. Started in 1901 for simplicity's sake and now I have some reading to do. |

My question is similar. I'd like to generate about 20 years of history for my fictional league, but also take over the Rockies when they need to be rebuilt (after several sub .500 seasons). When it occurs, I'd like to make that year 2012.
Is there any way to do this? |

I want to simulate just enough years for that situation to happen, and then make that present day. |

Not really sure how you could just sim until the team you want we'd a new manager and it be present day but if you want to take over a certain team at a certain time, just sim until then and take over the team thru the commish mode option.
