I have a problem that I have had last season in OOTP3 and OOTP4. When I try to import spring training files, they always crash the game. I have even tried exporting a file and then immediately importing the same file, but I have the same problem.
I can think of only one thing we have done that could cause the problem: we used an external schedule editor to enable interleague play. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Any idea what causes it? How to fix it? Thanks, Chuck

Do you know if the ST file exports are coming from the "same" exact file as you are using? I don't know why they would crash the game otherwise.

They are from the EXACT same file. I can export a ST file, and then import immediately (i.e., click the export and then import buttons one after the other) and the game still crashes when trying to import.
I am concerned that it might be the schedule generator we used, but I am in more than one league that uses the same schedule generator and they do not have the problem. [ 05-14-2002, 11:26 AM: Message edited by: CharlesFox ]

I'm having the same problem and I've seen the problem on other league forums. Nobody has found the reason or the fix? Its just broken?

One team worked...4 others I've tried don't work and crash the game.
4 of us got together in a YIM chat to figure out what each owner is doing differently. We've tried everything and still the same teams don't work. We tried having an OOTP owner (who's file worked) send in a ST export for an STB owner and it didn't fix it. Compared all roster move differences...that doesn't seem to make a difference... This is mind boggling.

Basically, we have verified that the error is related to the individual team...not anything the owner or the commissioner is doing.
The LBA is a fictional league, 16 teams. Used Stickware LAST season at the beginning. No expansion, no restructuring of divisions. No new schedule... The team that had their export work is the team that has had the most changes to its roster in the pre-season.

Are you certain that NO players were signed or released by the GM's that exported these files? I have taken part in 3 or 4 ST using export/imports with both real and fictional leagues and have had no problems whatsoever.

Yes I am positive. My owners are too smart to pull a stunt like that.
![]() Only one team worked. I had the owner of the team that worked go into his version of the download and simulate that he was the owner of one of the teams that didn't work. He did the same process that he used on his own team (that imported fine) and the bad import still didn't import correctly...crashing the game.

I know more people have had this problem because I have seen it in your league forums. Please speak up so it might get a closer look!

I am in the above league and was one of the one's testing the problem. Here is what we have:
1. The commish (Portlander) and I both use OOTP while the other two testing with us who had problems use STB. 2. My spring training file worked fine but the other two guys didn't. 3. I checked to make sure we all had deleted our old league folder and were using the current one put up by the commish. We also all have updated versions of our games. Now my team did make roster moves as had one of the others but neither of us signed/removed players. 4. Again my team worked fine with the moves anyway so this did not seem to be the problem but we wanted to test if the one owner did something wrong with his moves. We had him resend the file without the moves and still it crashed the game. 5. We then wanted to test if it was an STB related problem so I went in and made up tester spring training changes for their teams and sent in a file for each of them. Remember I use OOTP and my team worked fine. Again though it crashed the computer which lead us to believe something is wrong with those teams themselves or Portlanders copy of the game. 6. I had the teams send ME their files and acted as the commish on my own computer. Again they crashed me which means it is something about those files themselves. Since we can input their numbers manually and have it work that way it is something specific to importing their files. 7. I wasn't around for the creation of the league coming in near the end of the first season so I will quote Portlander above: "The LBA is a fictional league, 16 teams. Used Stickware LAST season at the beginning. No expansion, no restructuring of divisions. No new schedule... " Hopefully that helps to narrow it down but I think I would need programming experience to go any deeper so as it is I am out of ideas. |

Spring Trng Files Export
Just experienced the same problem today myself. Pretty sure the owner making the export used the latest files........his regular team export imports without a problem.

It sounds like the outside app has caused this problem. To test if it's related to the stickware app one of the people who's game crashes when they import their own spring training exports should create a new league without the stickware schedule and attempt to crash the game by importing spring training exports. If the game still crashes then it is still something else, but currently the odds seem high that the outside schedule app is the problem since both leagues in this thread used that app.
If no solution is found a workaround would be to not allow spring training tweaking - many (most?) online leagues don't anyway, and that would be much better than having the game crash even one more time. When I hear of OOTP crashing for an online league I always think how terrible it would be if the Commish lost the league through a crash - that would be a serious burn .

Well decided to allow the following as a work around:
1. Can use coaches advice or default values of 5's. 2. Give 5 players per team for the commish to change manually as per your instructions. Personally I don't like spring training much myself and could care less if we have it. It does seem like it could be Stickware related though and yet it is such a popular application you would think this problem would surface more often. |

Is each GM using the "same game version"? Whether it is OOTP or STB are they all matching?

They all claim to have the most current versions available.
Still I tried to isolate this as a problem by sending in reports for their teams (my team report had already worked) and it still crashed the commish's game when I did it. |

Not to doubt the GM's but you might just ask them to make certain they are using OOTP4.1 and STB2003 w/ patch_14 installed "properly". I have run into multiple instances when the gamers thought that the patch was installed when it was not.
Get them to check the "splash panel" when the game opens.

Good point but I thought I isolated for that already and discounted it no? Maybe I wasn't clear in what I wrote so I will try it again.
I have OOTP4.1 running (just double checked) and sent in a ST file for my team which worked fine. I too thought that the teams causing the crash might not have the most current updates so I made up spring training changes for them on my own computer and sent them to the GM. It still caused the crash. So even though I can create working files for my own team I can't for those specific teams.... this all leads me to believe it is something about those teams specifically. |

I know a lot of leagues don't use Spring training settings, but I personally feel it is part of the strategy of running a team and adds to an owner's personalization of his franchise. Its a shame to not be able to use this feature online.
Not to sound like a grump but I am getting tired of the saying "most leagues do it this way". Ok, now that's out of the way...I do appreciate the help and the time everyone's taking to respond. I'm in an online leage as an owner that doesn't use a modified schedule and apparently there were no problems with ST there, so it most likely does have something to do with an outside schedule. But why should we accept that? I can't stand the default schedule with its pitching matchups and Stickware is a great program. Is there anything we can do to get these two programs working together harmonously? Why would the schedule effect the Spring Training import. That makes no sense to me. It seems like it would crash it when you ran spring training rather than when you imported the team's files. But I'm not a programmer...

I don't know for sure if the problem is with using the schedule generator, but I don't know that for sure. Soulds like a problem that we need more info on.

2. Lobby Markus to expand on the OOTP scheduling ability in v5 so an outside app is no longer needed. I have never been in a league that used an outside scheduler, but unfortunately there have been many other bug issues in the past related specifically to a custom schedule (not sure to which scheduling app if there are more than one). What exactly do the custom schedule apps do & how far off is OOTP from that level of customizability? Has Markus been fully informed about the current OOTP schedule limitations? Sorry if this is all obvious but I have not read up on this topic often. The only schedule related issue I miss in the game are doubleheaders and afternoon games combining with a travel schedule to effect player stamina (that last one one will probably have to wait until OOTP12 ).
