Closer contracts

I'm getting close to have my fictional league set up the way I like it, however one issue I'm getting is that the AI seems to be giving big contracts to closers.

The elite starting pitchers are getting around $8m-$9m per year, however there always seems to be 4-5 teams (its a 20 team league) who have closers with 2 or 3 years deals at $7m-$8m. It looks to me that this money could be better spent elsewhere.

I'm wondering if this could be due to having too much money in the league. On the setup pages it projects that there is around $20m more revenue than expense, I just like to try and ensure teams always have enough money to pick up a couple of low level free agents at any time so you don't get unsigned free agents.

Does anyone have any advice? Or is this seen in every league?

That's not out of line with what elite MLB closers have gotten recently in real life.

But of the top SPs are only getting 8-9 the scale is a bit off. I would think the closers end up at 5 to 6 mil.

What the same as the highest paid player on the team? I don't think there is one team where the closer is in the top 3-4 highest paid players?

Yankees, Phillies, Tigers are 3 I can think of without checking. Their closers are all in the top 5 or 6 paid players on the team.

Texas is another. You'll find plenty of closers in baseball who make a lot more than starters.

On each of the teams the closer makes half of what the highest paid player does, I'm getting almost the same salary.

Its ok if it happens in everyones setup, I can get around it. I'm just wondering if ifs something specific to my setup at present, or if anyone had a way around.
