Nickname Fail

Debating who to draft with my second round pick, and there's Sadao Inoue, native of Iwata, Japan, better known as "The Nervous Greek".

I feel as though I should write a background story for how he got that one....

Another reason to make the nickname file blank.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

I really wish nicknames were a easily-disabled option, un-check a box and all of them are gone (or hidden), no need to alter files and it affects players already created.

Meh... He could have a Japanese father and a Greek mother... and the name would make a lot more sense. Yu Darvish grew up in Japan but doesn't have a Japanese surname... isn't his father Lebanese or something?

I'm not sure I see the problem with this.

I think you could easily pretend that he reminds people of Lou Skizas, and therefore earned Lou's nickname.
Afterall, Roy "Doc" Halladay isn't actually a gunslinger from the wild West...

Yu Darvish's father is Iranian.

One of the players on the Swallows is Matsumoto Yuichi, who is half-brazilian and was even known as Daniel at one point (no idea when, certainly before he became a pro-ball player). He counts on the roster as a Japanese player, tho, and not a foreign player.

Yuichi Matsumoto - BR Bullpen

You could always go to the nick names.txt file and just delete everything in there.

I would actually like to see the nicknames on the roster page. Then I wouldn't need to click through players to see who has nicknames and who doesn't.

I do that to the nicknames and hints files first thing.

Whoever decided to use non-generic nicknames did the game a disservice.

Just need to use some imagination, apply a story in your mind why he has such a nickname.

My imagination went places I didn't want it to go when Juan 'Vasectomy' Arellano showed up.

I love the nicknames...

I often find myself replacing their first name in my mind with it. (Ross Hurst forever is Sonny Hurst to me, Wayne Sutphin is forever Skates Sutphin)

Sorry, I don't have nearly enough imagination for that. So the nicknames file gets immediately blanked out. I suppose I could edit the non-generic nicknames out, but that's too much like work and besides I want to keep my modding virginity.

Couldn't blanking the file, in itself, be classed as modding though

To me, modding is changing something, not just getting rid of it.

Removal is not change?
