OK, this just made me laugh. I am watching the Yankees - Rays game on TV at the moment. Bottom 7th, Rays lead 3-0, bases empty, two outs. Carlos Pena (the slugging Rays 1B who is 2-3 with a HR and a 2B) at bat, the count is 0-2.
So, what does Carlos Pena do? He turns around to bunt, bunts it foul and hence strikes out. Everybody is in disbelief, including the commentators. The Yankees hesitate to leave the field, they have no clue what just happened. So, if anybody complains about the in-game AI of OOTP ever again, I'll just link to this thread. Thank you, Carlos Pena.

RL MLB is full of dummies. We just don't want them in OOTP so no, you are not getting off the hook that easy.

LOL I watched it too. Weird. Did he think there was only 1 strike?

Seriously though, what was he thinking? It was even a RHP reliever he was facing, not Randy Johnson in the 1993 Allstar-Game.

How about this one:
In 1994, right fielder Larry Walker of the Expos was charged with an error on a mental mistake he made in a game against the Dodgers on April 24 at Dodger Stadium. After making a running catch for what he thought was the final out in the third inning, Walker handed the ball to a nine-year-old fan in the stands. Jose Offerman of the Dodgers tagged up and scored on the mental misplay. I was watching that game. |

I was watching it on MLB.TV and thinking, OK, he's got him right where he wants him... then he squares up to bunt? I'm thinking, what the hell? Definitely a head-scratcher. They were playing with the shift on, so maybe Pena thought he'd be "sneaky" and lay one down.
Grab some pine buddy!

Actually having seen Pena do it a few times last year while he was a Cub, it isn't too shocking to me. His idea I believe is to surprise everyone and get an easy infield single. He probably did it 3 times last year in a similar situation and it worked once. .333 batting average

I walked out of the room just in time to miss that. Amazing. Overall an outstanding game and an incredible series.

Agreed. I think both of the other outs (out of the 1-3 number I mentioned) were foul outs. He's a crazy guy but having a hell of a good beginning this year. The Cubs miss his defense.

I swear, if I was the Rays GM and saw him do that, I would cut him right then and there.
