I would definitely say yes. The E.R.A. is nothing unbelieveable, but he had a solid 229 wins. Also, what makes him HOF material, is his 5,030 strikeouts. That to go along with 4 WS wins and 6 all-star appearances put him in the hall for me.

For me, no ... ERA isn't good enough, 229 wins aren't enough.
On the other hand, in the context of your league, maybe he's good enough. I've noticed OOTP doesn't have a lot of 300-game winners, for instance. In the league I'm currently running, midway through 2025, league began 2003 w/Total Minors, I've got 12 pitchers with more than 229 wins. Of the pitchers with at least 3000 IP, 22 have a better ERA than your guy, 13 are worse, which means he's below average in a group like that. So in my league, he gets points for longevity, but not for much else. Your league might have higher ERAs, though. On the OTHER hand, his numbers make him Luis Tiant with 55 fewer losses, and that ain't too shabby. |

I'd put him in. His dominance of hitters with the strikeouts would stick in my mind if I was a voter. Not to mention the World Series victories.

look at some seasons though his ERA was down under 2.50, that's good. Plus, 500 K in one year is unprecedented domination of batters.

K's aside, this guy looks a whole lot like Jack Morris. A really good pitcher, but not really a great pitcher. Also, for his career 13 CG's and 6 SHo's? Now he's starting to look more like a durable version of Sid Fernandez.
Back to the K's, I am almost inclined to think that is a product of an out of whack era setting. His other numbers just don't jive with a guy throwing that many K's. Guys throwing that kind of heat certainly should have more than 6 career SHo's. The bottom line goes back to context. If he is far and away throwing more K's than anyone else of his generation, then maybe he gets in after two or three years of elgibility. If 300 K's a season is not uncommon during his era, then he's the Jack Morris of his era, deserves some consideration, but doesn't get overwhelming support of the voters.

Lets see, what is wrong with this picture? 522 SO, 95 BB, 3.64 ERA?
This would never occur in any reality outside of Marvel Comics, and is the kind of stat "player" that just eviscerates any sense of believability for me, which led to shelving the game for the time being. Ah, but I am a grumpy old man, and your mileage may differ. Back to your question: Absolutely! And while you're at it, induct this poor sucker into the Medical HOF so they can cryogenically preserve that fabulous flinger for the future generations to gawk at. |

So he averaged 16.5 strikeouts per nine innings that one season? Although that believeability issue is fairly easy to handle if one pays attention to stats and league totals.

Nope. Strikeouts don't get a player into the hall alone.
K's 2004 - 324 - 4th 2007 - 433 - 2nd 2008 - 421 - 2nd 2009 - 321 - 3rd I think the strikeout settings are way out of wack. 433 and 421 K's and only 2nd?...324 and 4th?..321 and 3rd? Those would be in the top 15 single season strikeouts (post-1900 [after pitchers stopped throwing 400+ IP]). |

I'd have to say "no" to the Hall of Fame. It seems like your strikeout settings were way outta whack! A guy has over 400 strikeouts and he doesn't lead the league!?! Yes, he appears to be a good pitcher, but not great. Once again, I don't think doing one thing good qualifies one for the Hall of Fame. And knowing that your era settings seem to be out of whack makes it hard to rate him.
