Muhammad Ali denies turning down bout with Lang

Ali who was at a charity event at the Boys and Girls Club in Louisville, denied reports of James Lang reportedly offering a fight to the current #1 HW in the world.

"If that ape wanted to fight me, he should've said so. Not go out in the press like an angry ape who didn't get a mate this season. I'm more than open to fighting him after my current fight, which I'm keeping under wraps of course."

Lang will fight Crusierweight Champion Floyd Patterson 28-2 (26 KO's) in June for a HW title.

Whitaker eyes the big dogs

Pernell Whitaker fresh from his victory off of Jack O' Brien is eyeing bigger fights in the future. "I just want to prove I'm the head of the division" said the young 20 year old prospect. Whitaker's record currently stands at 18-1 ( 8 KO's) his lone loss coming from a hometown DQ to Nate Campbell. Whitaker who is a brilliant defensive fighter (his opponents connection rates average at 12%.)

The division's current titleholders Emeka Judah 24-3-1 (14 KO's) and Keegan Jacobs 26-4 (11 KO's) are both dangerous fighters and there's the looming threat of Edwin Valero 27-2 (27 KO's) and former Pound for Pound king Henry Armstrong 31-7-2 (26 KO's).

Fighting one of them could boost Whitaker's standing in the division, since prospects Benny Leonard and Tony Canzoneri both NY born fighters has a bigger following than Whitaker and are more fan-friendly fighters. Another prospect vs prospect match up that is intriguing is a Panamanian prospect named Roberto Duran 16-1 (11 KO's). Whoever Whitaker fights he says he'll be happy to take center stage in a big event.

Quick Hits
  • The Floyd Patterson-James Lang bout is gaining a great fight for the undercard. Edwin Valero will face Paul Spadfora in an IBF eliminator to determine who faces Henry Armstrong (I do not envy who wins the fight.)
  • Undefeated HW Joshua Belmonte 54-0-2 (18 KO's) will be making his next defense of his Australian Title against Allan Altus (I've never heard of him either.)
  • Arturo Gatti returns to Friday Night Fights in two weeks against Kendall Holt that should be a barn burner.

- Quote of the week
"F**k those f****ts!!"
- Sonny Liston when reporters fielded a question about him being the most avoided man in the division.

I just simulated one of the best bouts I've seen in TBCB between Alex Stewart and Luis Firpo they had a combined 10 knockdowns (5 for each man) and a surprise ending I didn't see coming

The Art of Journeymen

In the illustrious sport of boxing, there are champions and contenders, then there are the journeymen; a lie-detector test of sorts in the boxing world. Promoter Gus Johnson who currently manages journeymen Monte Barrett *29-26-2 13 KO's* had this to say "The thing about journeymen is how there will never be a shortage of fights for them. Most journeymen are good enough to test how good a prospect is." With that being said there is a current rise in journeymen upsets lately. One of the biggest upsets coming from Argentinian Luis Firpo who kayoed Floyd Patterson in the first round. "It's also the dangers of fighting a journeyman, you'll never know when they'll pull a rabbit out of their hats and snatch victory."

One of the more prolific journeymen on the HW scene is Homer Simpson who recently upset hard-hitting Earnie Shavers by KO in the first round, Simpson began his career as a clueless fighter under his father Abraham Simpson and was a notoriously "un-fan friendly" fighter as well. But suddenly Simpson was rejuvenated with his KO of HW king Jack Johnson last year and Simpson is brimming with confidence ever since.

Another journeyman is Aaron "Wildcard" Price, who is nicknamed Wildcard for his unpredictable style he'll bring into the ring, whether it's passive non-aggression or a brawling mauling style. "I think in the boxing world being in my position is more envied, by the top guys, one loss for them will spiral their careers into the abyss, while a loss from me, will still let me gain fights with the elite" said Price, Price is currently at 28-22-1 (7) and is fighting German journeyman Amadeus Krum to see who fights Wladmir Klitchko.

"Most journeymen are guys who boxing is a second career, to them it's another paycheck, however I think there's a rise in journeymen who were prospects but got sparked and are now looking to get back in the title picture" quips Johnson. While Johnson's perspective is correct let us take a look at one of the worst fighters in this journeymen class is Manfred Ackers who is 1-42-2, his record has earned him the name of Mr.Glass to his opponents. Ackers was a former German amateur boxing champion, who lost his step in the pros. Ackers only win came against fellow hapless fighter Yakup Saglam.

AN INTERVIEW WITH HOMER SIMPSON

by Nigel Collins

*The following words uttered by Mr.Simpson does not reflect the opinions of the interviewer and the magazine*

Nigel Collins: Thanks for your time Mr.Simpson

*I extend my hand towards Homer, he then slowly moves away from me*

Homer Simpson: Are you hitting on me?

NC: No I am not.

HS: Because I will let you know that I might be a Communist, a homosexual, a cult leader, a Beliber, but I am certainly not an American!!

*I slowly palmed my face*

NC: Let me get down to it, how's the family?

HS: They're all doing okay, I wouldn't know since my memories are slowly fading. Everytime I step into that ring a piece of me is gone...

NC: That is surprisingly eloquent Mr.Simpson.

*Homer then slowly slumps his body and looks dejected*

HS: I saw it in a movie....

NC: Anyway, I wanted to ask what are your future plans? Do you plan on continuing boxing?

HS: Of course me and my trainer [Moe Szyslak] have been drawing up opponents for me to face. I really would like to fight those Ukrainian bums the Clinchko brothers, they seem like an easy payday.

NC: Will you, be prepared if anyone takes your challenges?

HS: I will be prepared to fight anyone, anywhere, anytime. I don't give a [expletive deleted]!!

NC: Of course as you know, another jelly bellied HW Tony Galento has been calling you out.

HS: So, he defeated [Apollo] Creed, I just came off of a KO victory over Travis Kaufman, what has that big bellied bum, done to deserve a fight with me. I am one of the best!

NC: I'd like to know how did you get into boxing, if I may shift the tone of this interview.

HS: Well I was in a bar and a couple of guys were messing with my friends, I decide to intervene and I got the stuffing kicked out of me, but I never fell down from the beating! I found out that I have an enlarged skull that allows me to absorb monstrous punishment, without consequence. I then hooked up with a trainer who won't be named because he's nothing to me.

*Homer's prior trainer was his father Abraham Simpson, he and Abraham had a falling out over an unknown reason*

NC: What did it take you to switch trainers?

HS: When you realize someone is stealing from you, and he's supposed to protect you. He didn't do that and I'm my own man now. That's the last question I'm answering now get out!!

NC: We have five more ques......

*Homer screamed out "why you little" and proceeded to strangle me for 1 minute, I will be pressing charges soon*

I bought TTCB 2013 since my laptop with the old data got wrecked. So I'm building up the records of some of the HW's but I'm considering a total reboot as well...

Sadly all my data was lost, I'll tell you my plans for the universe that never came to fruition because of the data lost:
  • Homer Simpson was going to continue his rise and eventually fight either Joe Louis or Rocky Marciano, where he'd be brutally KO'D
  • Pernell Whitaker eventually would've been my number one P4P fighter.
  • Muhammad Ali vs Jack Johnson would've happened eventually with a rematch
  • Apollo Creed was going to fight Mike Tyson soon
  • I would've also given more coverage to the FW's-JMW's
  • Edwin Valero was going to face Henry Arrmstrong and that was going to be my marquee PPV matchup.
  • I would've had Homer fight Ali and possibly put up a Rocky Balboa like performance.

I've yet to suffer a total loss with a PC or laptop but I cringe whenever someone mentions it.

Great news!! I found my old data, now the bigger question is can any of it be transferred to any of the new TTCB series?
