Have gotten 2 emails stating that my A ball pitcher (2 different ones) has learned to play RF. The pitcher is NOT in the lineup and is listed in the pitching assignment chart. Have not ever seen this until I downloaded the latest patch.

Not pitchers, but had two players on my team alone that learned new positions without playing that position in the lineup.

Chris</strong><hr></blockquote> I checked all players in several OOTP4 leagues (with the C patch) and so far I have found no pitchers rated for OF play. I did notice that you can put your pitchers in the batting lineup though at defensive positions, though I realize you have said this is not the case in your situation. I guess I would double-check to see if you might have done this by accident, this seems like the only solution unless others have had this same thing happen. I have leagues where I manually set the minor leagues and also leagues where I let the AI do it so I don't think that could be the cause. For anyone who wants to do a thorough check for this issue: Back up your league, reset-redraft all players, view the entire leagues pitchers in the FA screen by choosing the "General Ratings" button and click the "P" (pitcher) defensive rating column. Scroll down and you can easily tell if any of your leagues pitchers have learned a new position. |

In the patch b and earlier I've had emails saying that position players have learned a new position, but they already knew how to play that position to start with. The funny thing was that they were not even in the lineup as that position though.
Haven't had enough playing time with the new patch to see if this has changed though. |

i have seen this bug with a pitcher as well, but he was not successful, so an OF rating was not assigned. Also, I have seen positional players learn a position they were not assigned to learn (i think I have posted about this before, but I cant remember).

Killebrew, No, I double and triple checked the first time and the second time it happened.
To break it down further, it only happened in A ball and it only happened to a guy drafted. Not a big deal but unusual nevertheless.

Sometimes it's difficult not to partially dismiss a rare event if you have not seen them over many years of scrutinized play. I'll keep an eye out for this, it's certainly something you don't want in the game. I'd guess it might be caused by an unusual sequence of events (I did the release all/redraft pitcher defensive position check in 4 leagues with no instances), then again I have not played too many years with the latest patch. Can I ask a few related questions: - Do you recall how many pitchers you had in A ball? If there are more than 5SP/5MR/1CL in one level maybe the other pitchers are treated as bench players. - Do you recall how many defensive position players you had in that same A level? |

Killebrew,
Each time, I had around 12 pitchers. Usually 4 or 5 starters and 7-8 guys in middle relief. I generally break it down with 4 middle relief, 2 setup and 2 mopup. In the last case, the pitcher was in the mopup role. The pitcher(s) in question were middle relief rated guys. I had 7-8 batters but not sure if all OF spots were filled. I was utilizing the DH for a player. Chris

My pitcher was at AA when this occurred. I have seen it at both AA and A for positional guys.

I will try to run some tests with a lot of pitchers in the A and AA levels. That is something that I never do (have more than 11 pitchers per level) so that could be why I never came across this before.

I too have had this happen. It was a league I was running awhile ago. I even edited the player to delete the outfield position but he learned it again. Guess he really wanted to play in the field
I'll keep a closer eye out for this in the leagues I'm running now.
