Ever Manage A Minor League A Team?

So, I was curious about what it would be like to manage a minor league A team, and see what I could do. I actually tried managing the Casper Ghosts in Rookie A just for fun.

After two seasons, I suck! And I'm frustrated. As soon as I develop a good couple players, they're gone to A or AA, a couple eventually AAA. However, my teams suffer. Both seasons my teams ended up in the bottom with the worst pitching ERA and batting averages. Not to fail mention, the lowest winning percentage. If it were not for the Commissioner mode, I'd have been fired. As it is, I've received two "1" ratings ("That's not to good...").

Anybody else managed much in the minors, and have success? I mean, I know a fair amount about baseball, and more than anyone should know about statistical analysis (aka stats are a part of my real life).

Thanks!

I have 3 minor league teams in my organization (AAA,AA,A). I have always played my major league team, but a while back I decided to play my Single-A team's games as well. I was curious to see how the players that I drafted would do in professional baseball.

Somewhat to my surprise, I have discovered that I enjoy the Single-A games more than the Major League ones. With the Single-A team there's more juggling of players, checking the batting averages, evaluating the fielding performance, assigning facegens, etc.

It's easy to overlook a player's fielding range and arm when you just play the Majors, but in the minor leagues these things are important. And you also get to see first-hand the other teams' new players as well. Many times I have been able to trade for a young player who spanked my team.

The games are just as exciting as in the Majors, and now I cannot even imagine not playing my Single-A games. It's one of the best parts of the game!

I tried the "go from Rookie League to the Majors." Started out at S A and over the course of 7 seasons and 3 firings finally become MGR of the Arizona Diamondbacks where I had 5 of my former players from 4 different organizations.

If you move up the ladder like this, do teams eventually start offering you GM jobs?

They do, also within the organisation you can be promoted up to the better teams. Even with a bad year too...

However get a real bad slump going, and well, you wait for those other offers after the current season finishes.

Be prepared to manage on the fly, all the time. Call ups and send downs happen all the time, sometimes every few games. And get ready to start trying to turn catchers in short stops, and catches into fielders, and catchers into....you get it? the game tends to create and draft a lot of catchers.
I hope this aspect gets a lot of love in 13, it has been sorely neglected.
