I've just downloaded the Lahman Database 4.5. When I try to input a player, OOTP performs and illegal operation and shuts down...any ideas???

We need more of an explaination to help you. Are you trying to create a historical league or just add one player to an existing league?
Do you have the latest patch (patch 4.0c I believe it is). What stage are you at when it shuts down? Are you importing a historical player from the edit free agent screen? and if so do you have the correct path specified to where you unzipped the Lahamn database? Are you using the correct player id number? The more you can explain the quicker we can help you.

I was trying to add a player to an existing league. Yes I have patch 4.0C. It happened from the edit free agents screen. The path of the database was correct.
Thanks!! |

Same thing keeps happening to me. I downloaded the database and I have the correct version. I do everything right and right after it asks me to select which database version I will use to import the player the screen goes black and it takes me back to windows.
I love everything this game has to offer but there is so much stupid BS you have to go through to make the game suitable for the users needs. I like High Heat Basebal 2003 alot better than OOTP4. I can add players and edit them to bring back all time greats like Ruth , Gehrig, etc. I feel like I need a computer programming degree to run this thing. Its stupid. |

All you have to do is check to make sure you have things in the right folders, include the right path name, and include the right player ID. If it doesn't handle that for you, it's likely your computer malfunctioning rather than OOTP, since it works perfectly for a number of us. Now, in High Heat games, when you use plug-ins and 3rd party programs, and editors and things like that, you have to be able to do the same things mentioned above as far as making sure things are going in the right places and you're using them the right way. OOTP editing and set up is really no more difficult than editing a High Heat tune file to get things the way you want. I'd just simply find out more about your computer first. |

Razor did you follow this tutorial on how to do it?
http://www.400softwarestudios.com/ubb/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=5;t=000015 Follow it to the T and let us know if you still have problems. Paperlantern... did you by anychance have the database open in Excel or word while you were trying to import the player? (Perhaps trying to check the LahmanID?) If so the game won't be able to access the database and will crash. |

Thanks ScottVib!
It was because I had the excel spreadsheet open at the same time. It works great! This database seems to rock! I hope that it is accurate. I wonder if they even took the time to investigate consistency, clutch performance, durability, etc. |

Consistency, Clutch Performance, etc. are NOT in the database there is no stat on it.. so they aren't in there.
The database is put out by a group of people at the Baseball Archive who are unaffiliated with OOTP, so it doesn't contain all the parameters that you'd expect for OOTP4 (like consistency, etc.) but it does have accurate stats which allow you to import anyone. |
