I really dislike Costner, and, to be honest, I've seen a few scenes, and it just seemed to sappy to me. Maybe I'm wrong. I'll see it someday. And I know what Iowa is like - I have a lot of family in Nebraska, which is pretty much the same as Iowa. I think I even stayed in Des Moines one time - went to some amusement park there about 20 years ago.

For brutal realism, how about 'Cobb'.
I thought 'Soul of the Game' was a great movie. 'Field of Dreams' is magnificent. For me, it sums up the magic and mystery of baseball. |

I have liked every baseball movie I have ever seen, including some that I would consider simply awful movies
. My fave baseball movie is The Sandlot, followed by Bull Durham, the original Bad News Bears, and A League of Their Own. Some movies that I think are pretty bad (either the writing, acting, or directing) but I still liked include Mr. Baseball, For The Love Of The Game, Pride Of The Yankees, Major League #1-however-many-they-made, Brewsters Millions, The Fan, & Eight Men Out.Most "kids" baseball movies I enjoy, though they can be ridiculous at times . Rookie Of The Year, Angels In The Outfield (the remake), Bad News Bears #2-4, and the movie about the kid who becomes owner of the Twins.

My two favorites -
The Sandlot A League of Their Own The good but not great - Field of Dreams Not even good, but it's baseball so that makes up for it - Rookie of the Year Little Big League Angels in the Outfield Major League 1, 2 Don't remember The Natural, though I have seen it. And I have never seen Eight Men Out. Still want to see The Rookie. |

I have loved every baseball movie I have ever seen. But Long Gone is one of the best. "Stud Cantrell" is a super lead character and what a baseball name!!!!

This one is a no-brainer.
"Bang the Drum Slowly." About a catcher, dying of some mystery illness, put plays his @$$ off for one last season. Stud pitcher, Tom Seaver type, stays with his buddy to the end...he is the only one who knows. Unbelievable movie, very, very well done. |

It Happens Every Spring (1949) with Ray Milland and Jean Peters. I have always loved this silly tale of a University Chemistry Professor who invents a substance that repels wood. This is his ticket to the Big Leagues and he leads his beloved Cardinals to the World Series.
The thing I never questioned when I first saw this movie as a child is, was he cheating? I just thought it was neat to do that. This film is quite dated but I still watch it whenever I get a chance.

Casa Blanca: A tale of the White Sox on Bill Veeck's famed "Free T-Shirt Night".
Citizen Kane: A fairy tale of former WWF superstar Kane beating out Garth Brooks and Kevin Costner to earn a spot on the Devil Rays. A Beautiful Mind: idk, but it ain't about Dan Duquette. Gladiator: A fictional tale about Ottawa Otter Ronald "Gladiator" Thome of the OOL. Lord of the Rings: I fu[/b]cking hate George Steinbrenner.

Major league was a great series, the kid's baseball movies are always fun. I really enjoyed the Rookie as well, I didn't think it would be good at all, but was pleasantly surprised.
