Import Player

I am playing with the "All Time Greats" league and I want to import some now active MLB players to add to the league. I'm not sure how to go about doing this. Do I import an historical player, and find his id? Let's say it's David Price from Tampa Bay. If so, what year do I designate for import? Thanks in advance,

You do add a historical player. I've done this with my my latest league which was built with nothing but historical teams and players. I imported a young Albert Pujols who, in his second season (my league's most recent) drove in 161 runs (having Ty Cobb always on base for him to drive in helps!). I guess that makes his $24 million per year free agent contract justified. I also imported Justin Verlander who I was able to sign as a free agent and he's established himself among the league's best pitchers.

The year you designate for the import depends on the player. In Pujols' case I imported him from his rookie year. I used Verlander's second full big league season as my choice for the import. You can do the same with Price. Any year from '09-'11 will do, depending on how young you want him to be when he joins the league.

You can quickly find the player ID from Baseball-Reference.com. Just type the player you're looking for into the "search" box to pull him up. To use Price as a good example, in the URL line it will say "http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/priceda01.shtml". Price's ID is priceda01. The player ID is always just before the ".shtml" extention. If you want to save a couple of seconds, you can just highlight the ID and copy and paste it into the game.

Somewhat related, I'm using modern financials for the league. Lou Gehrig is set to make a cool $33,953,000 next season. He is the highest paid player in the league. Given his production, you can't say he's overpaid either

No problem and you know where to find me. Just to correct myself, you can't import a player using 2011. In the case of Price either '09 or '10 will have to do, again depending on how young you want him to be.

i think if you import a player mid-career their previous [real] stats will show up in their history? i import every player at age 15 and run them through high school first, so i have to tweak every players ratings. unfortunatly, their speed is never right, so i just have to make a best guess. i guess this game doesnt realize you cant teach speed, and they'd be faster when their 15, and not slower. but when importing just put the year at whatever age you want them to start in your game basically, that works 99% of the time.

If you clone the player and then delete the original you won't have to worry about the stats showing up in their history.

Can't seem to do it. I tried with Tim Lincecum. I found his player id from baseball reference. linceti01 I put that id in the space for player id on the import frorm. I chose 2009 as the "enter season year" and clicked ok, and got the message "the historical player import failed. Not sure what I'm doing wrong

Hmmmm. I was just able to import Lincecum from 2009. Are you sure you selected master.csv for the database file?

Without seeing what you did, it's hard to say what you did wrong.

My name has been blacked out for reasons you'll understand.

You should be looking at this screen to select the master.csv file
