Favorite Player Thread
Do you have a favorite player on your team? A player that, even if your team wins, if he has a bad day, you hate it? A guy you root for almost more than the rest of your team combined?

In the game I'm playing right now, yeah. I started a historical game as the Jays in 1977.. I am in 1988.. I have a left-handed pitcher that I really like that seems to be doing pretty well.. I was hurt when he went down for a year with a torn labrum.. lol
In another game I play it's Dave Stieb because for whatever reason he doesn't do well at all.. |

My #1 also isn't doing well. To be fair, he's 21 and holding his own in the big leagues. Center fielder, .233/.298/.369 but solid defense in CF. He's not producing, but I think he'll develop and be as good as anyone. Runs like the wind and has the potential to post .900+ OPS's consistently.
The other guy I root for a lot is a 27 year old SP. Chance to be something special. Doing all he can, but I fear he started his career too late (I do the inaugural draft and he's in his "rookie" year) for the HOF. |

Myself as a RF for 1 of my teams. Being the GM/MGR and star RF who isn't all that great on D I get upset anytime I don't field a ball or get an error or have an 0 for. I am a MVP with a batting title, but defensively I am probably the 6th or 7th best RF out of 12 teams.

I'm in the playoffs in my second season of a Fictional online league.
My ace starter won the Top Pitcher Award in the first year and is in the running for it this second season. Playoffs start next sim and he is pitching game one. I'll gladly pay him whatever he wants. |

Is your Cobb able to stay healthy? Mine tends to miss at least a month or more each season. Starting in 1913 he has played in 94, 119, 150, 115, 23, 123, 71 and 96 games. I'm up to 06/19/1921 and he is one week into his second 4 week stint on the DL. UGH!

162 in 1909 by Frank "Home Run" Baker. On a side note Jake Daubert had a CEI in 1914.

I had a pitcher in a fictional league back when I was running OOTP08 that was the classic junkballer... that somehow had a knack for getting himself into jams and then promptly pitching out of them. I am not going to recall his exact ratings, but on a 20 point scale, I don't think his stuff or control were ever higher than 6 or 7... but I think he had 13 or 14 movement. Over the course of 6+ seasons I kept waiting every year for him to hit the wall and he never did.
Averaged probably 16 wins, a bad year was an ERA over 3.25... yet he always had a ton of walks, didn't strike anybody out, would go seven innings giving up 12 hits and 6 walks but somehow only allow three runs... Over those 6+ seasons, he had more walks than strikeouts, his WHIP was ugly, but he just didn't give up runs... never seen any other OOTP player consistently defy the mathematics of his ability. I think in my 7th year he suffered a career ender... and that league was never as much fun to play after that. Think I gave it another two seasons than put the game on the shelf for awhile. RIP Mark Gordon... my favorite fictional statistical fluke / outlier. |

In my experience (no I have not published a research paper on it that proves my samples are statistically significant), OOTP classic creates not too many injuries, but too many severe injuries. That is likely causing the unrealistic amount of games played for Cobb - the games played amounts that you posted would be realistic for only the most injury-prone stars of all-time.

For my replay, Ty Cobb is injury prone. Sure, I was hoping to see if he could get 4000+ hits, but now I have to wonder if he will be able to reach 3000. I'm up to 08/14/1921 and he has 2406. He's hitting .396 over 51 games, but he's once again on the DL. He's 34 years old so his clock is ticking. Since this is replay, OOTP's injury system is 100% realistic, as it is the only reality my league knows. |

I like a sim that mirrors MLB. Not exactly the same - I'm not looking for Cobb to play the exact number of games each year - but I am looking for injury frequencies that are in line with what the MLB experiences. IMHO, OOTP Classic does not provide for that. |

You really can't make a judgment on any injury setting based on comparisons of the first two months of your simulation vs the first two months of any real life season.
You can, but it'd be a bogus assumption. |
