Lightbulb Patch News

OK folks, the patch is almost done and will be tested starting today.

I was able to enhance the trading, and also added two trading options:
- Trade difficulty (ranges from Very Easy to Very Hard)... on Very Easy you will definitely be able to rip off the AI, on Very Hard you'll have a tough time getting value from the player(s) you offer.
- Trade AI preference (ranges from Heavily Favor prospects over neutral to Heavily Favor Veterans. This determines the way the AI values prospects in comparison to veteran regular ballplayers.

Also, there will be a report for minor league standings, and other small enhancements and features. Also, I am trying to fix all the bugs that were reported.

Other AI issues are being worked at as well, the rotation AI is working now the way it should and roster management should work better now.

The financial coefficient is driving me nuts, and this has to be delayed again

Just wanted to keep you updated. I hope to have the patch done late next week! (Keep your fingers crossed)

Version 5.11 will really please you I think.

Good work Markus.........Will it be saved game compatable ?

Here`s some ideas I had which in my opinion would make OOTP
more user friendly...if you can take the time to read.........

1 More PbP options to give us folks who don`t sim games more realism on the everyday plays........even include a ball by ball option.......

2 An everyday news page where all the days news is compiled on one page to make it all a little less confusing.........Like having a "Home" page........

3 A "continue game" button so it`s more obvious when a day has been completed.....At this point your news page would indicate weather or not you had any unread news for the day......Like in "Championship manager" soccer sim

4 If you change your starting lineup in the game screen and then change your mind, and go back, it doesn`t remember what changes you`ve made and reverts back to your original lineup...
If you see what I mean..........

Thanks again

Sounds good, Markus!
Just to jump the gun, what would be the most "realistic" setting for trade difficulty? Did you model very difficult be the most realistic level, or do AI teams turn down deals even if they benefit from them?

Everyone will have their own idea of what is realistic in my opinion.

What i would like:

A Hall of Fame report
A Retired players report

When you sim over a 100 years, the Hall of Fame/Retired screens take a long time to load.

Excellent news about the upcoming patch. The trade fixes hopefuly will cure a lot of ills for players. Also, I will much appreciate properly functioning pitching rotation.

Not to seem ungrateful, but showing no shame, two issues I haven't seen mentioned for the patch:

1) AI team strategies for historical leagues--AI always manages by "current day" strategy rather than appropriate to the era.

2) Excessive position player fatigue.

For the Trade Difficulty and Trade AI Preference, does this effect how the AI teams trade with other AI teams?

Example

If Trade Difficulty is set to Very Hard, will we see very few trades between 2 AI teams?

A good point; I think the AI is somewhere inbetween eras . For example, the AI over steals in the modern era, (a team must steal more than 70-72% to have a positive value, given the value of an out), yet likely understeals for past eras. The value of an out isn't constant. (The same point is made for sacrifices and bunts).

Great to see (another!) new patch

Quick question related directly to the patch. I understand we can set the trade difficulty standards ourselves...but as for the "Trade AI preference" will it be determined by the computer for each individual team (i.e. a team will recognize that it is 25 games out and start favoring prospects), or will we have to manually set it for all teams? Thank you.

can't wait for this to progress to the next logical step on this:

having the OPTION to have settings apply differently (and automatically) to individual computer controlled teams...

a competitive team in a playoff hunt would shift towards Heavily For Veterans (even closer to that setting if they have a good minor league system or lots of extra $$$).

meanwhile, crappy teams would be more inclined to the Heavily Favor Prospects setting.

of course, coding this next progression wouldn't be extremely difficult. Tweaking it to make sure it works well would be a little tougher.

I would assume that for the time being this is a global setting - it would apply to all AI teams.

Hmmm....don't know if it would make much sense if it was a global setting. Don't want all teams favoring vets or rooks because then nothing would be accomplished. I think putting this feature in without the ability of the AI to recognize payroll, place in standings, and amount of young talent at lower levels would serve no purpose. I don't want all the teams trading for youngsters because the slider is set that way. Not a coder, nor would I presume to know anything about it, but if it's an option, could you code a team to "score" it's record, games back, minors talent and then decide on it's own whether to trade for vets or youth?

my thoughts exactly.... it would be awsome if the computer trade AI would look at each team and decide what is in its best interest whether its in a playoff race and can sacrifice prospects for instant help, or whether a team is out of the playoff picture and can trade older guys for young guys to build around...

making it a global setting just doesnt make sense since all teams have different needs.

i like the difficulty setting though.... I know i'll have it as hard as it can be =)
