Weird substitution bug?

The strangest thing just happened. My centerfielder got injured making a catch for the last out in the top of the first inning. When it came time for me to bat in the bottom of the inning (he's my leadoff hitter), I was never prompted to replace him. Instead the AI had already inserted the worst hitter on my bench as a pinch hitter. To top it all off, the AI-selected pinch hitter doesn't even have a rating at center field, so I ended up substituting an actual outfielder and burning through two bench players in the first inning.

I'm playing a game where I have full control of everything (I play every one of them out because it helps the work day go a little faster). Every single game option setting is set for me (or my GM character) to control every aspect. Absolutely no settings for my team should enable any sort of AI substitution like this.

Is this a bug or what?

I'm on the latest version of OOTP12 (12.5.46) on a Win7 32-bit machine if that matters.

I have had the same thing happen and have a thread of it somewhere on here in the last 2-3 weeks. 3B i believe got injured on the final play and AI replaced him with my best hitting PH who is an OF in the 4th or 5th. I was winning big i believe so it wasnt that big of a deal but it was annoying that I had to use 2 players and used my best PH when I would have used him to hit for the SP in the 7th or 8th.

Aah, at least I know I'm not crazy. It didn't cost me my game either, but it was just so strange I had to post it.

That usually happens to me with pitchers. The pitcher gets hurt on the final out, the AI throws someone into his spot at random, then I have to pinch hit for him and bring in a new pitcher -- 1 injury, 3 players to replace (sometimes I get lucky and it only needs 2 replacements).

It's been a while though. I was hoping that'd meant that they fixed it in 12.

Along these same lines, and I'm pretty sure this has been discussed before, but my SP got hurt on the last out of an inning. Going into the next inning he would have been due up 3rd. The CPU forced me to declare a player to take over his spot before I could continue forward for that inning.

In real life I wouldn't have had to declare who would be replacing my pitcher until his turn was up to bat (or if he wasn't due up then whenever the next inning started I'd have to pick a new pitcher).

I suppose looking back the best thing to do would have been to declare which position player I was going to pinch hit with and then replace him when it was my turn in the field. At the time I just picked a RP and as it turned out he came up to bat with 2 outs and no one on and I think he struck out.

I asked this is a previous thread about this:

This has happened to me before in pervious versions of OOTP, and it just happened to me the other night with the latest patch/version of OOTP12. Same circumstances - my CF gets hurt on the final out of the inning and is due to leadoff the bottom half of the inning, but he gets automatically replaced by my UI.

So contrary to what Markus says, something is happening to make this happen. Everytime it's happened to me, it's been an injury on the final out of an inning with that same player due to lead off in the next half inning.

Hope you can find this in time for OOTP13 Markus - it's very rare but it's annoying to waste a player - if the AI is going to make an injury sub for me, at least make it make sense!

I'm curious which previous versions of OOTP had this happen to you. I've only played OOTP8 (demo for a few games) and OOTP9 (played out 11 full seasons) so I can't speak for OOTP10 or OOTP11, but I can honestly say it never happened to me in OOTP9 while playing out well over 1000 games.

I think it was either 10 or 11... I honestly don't remember which. When it happened the other day, it was the first time it happened to me in 12, and I know it had happened to me at least once before that in a previous version of the game.
