Fictional League With MLB Players?

One thing I loved about Strat-O-Matic was the ability to create a fictional "Keeper" league, populate it with all MLB players from a particular year, then release all the players into free agency which then led up to conducting a 40 man roster draft.

So, for instance, I would take the 1990 MLB season, release all the players into free agency then I would draft my team while the AI drafted for the rest of the league. I then played the season & playoffs.

The next function would be to hold a draft for the next season which would include only players that made their ML debut in the 1991 season. So all the teams could keep whichever players they wanted from their current roster & release others to make room for any of the new draft choices.

I played this league for years & it was great to be able to see the history of the league & these fictional teams grow, all the while playing with the major leaguers of the era.

I would love to be able to do this with this game.

Is there a way that I can do this with OOTP 12? I want to be able to start my fictional league from the beginning & conduct the expansion draft using the current MLB rosters, or from any of the historical season if i choose another era to play in.

Thanks for reading this & for any help in advance.

Sure but you have to go to Advanced mode. When you click on new game, there is a link on the bottom left for advanced mode. From this screen click on Add Historic League. I think the newest league you can choose is 2010, but you can always try 2011. After you OK this, go to the Options tab and just click on the 'Hold Inaugural Draft' box. Start the league and it will take you to your personal manger options. At this point you will need to commit to a team, well because otherwise you don't get to personally participate in the draft.

Click OK and it takes you to the initial draft screen.

Let us now what your team rooster is.

I shouldn't have actually gone through those steps, because there is Prince Fielder sitting right at the top. As a Mariners fan it is depressing. Now that Puljols has signed with the Angles, there is no way we get Fielder, at least not at a price that makes sense.

We have a field built for left handers, and now another one will slip through our fingers.

How many teams are left that have NEVER been to the World Series let alone won it?

I got that done thanks. Problem is that I have all the teams. I want my league to have two divisions with 8 teams in each. How can I change this?

I couldn't find a way to edit the league after this point. This setup has all the players in a draft which I want , but the league is populated by the same amount of teams & is structured like the Major Leagues.

I want to set up a 16 team, 2 division league & have all of the 2010 MLB players available to draft from.

I can make edits to the structure of a Fictional league, I can't find a way to do it in this Historical league.

What I'd really like is to be able to create a Fictional league with the amount of teams I want, and to be able to populate that league from a draft of 2010 MLB players.

Create a league for whatever year you want.

Once it's done, release all players from all teams, schedule inaugural draft.

Edit league structure, rename/delete teams, divisions, etc as desired.

Add minors if desired

Adjust league settings as desired

Hold your draft

Should be good to go.

Ok, I think I have most of it figured out. I've got the league structure setup as I want it & the players are all released & waiting for the draft which I will do tomorrow.

There's a lot to learn with this, coming from all my years with Strat-O-Matic, so I know it will take me awhile to get used to the way things work with OOTP.

Thanks to both of you & a special shout out of thanks to my fellow Canuck, Bluenoser!

I tried following instructions mentioned above to set up a historical league for 1963 historical players but in a league with only 6 teams, one for me and 5 friends.

Released all players first.
Then, deleted all but 6 teams.
Now the Inaugural Draft only includes the players from those 6 teams.

Is there a way to have all 1963 players appear in an Inaugural Draft for a 6 team league?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Never mind. I do have all the players in the draft pool. Just didn't realize it by how I was sorting the draft pool.
