HBO Tournament?
![]() Riddick Bowe vs. Evander Holyfield? Check... Lennox Lewis vs. Tommy Morrison? Seems likely... Michael Moorer vs. George Foreman? No word as yet... Herbie Hide vs. Andrews Golota or Ray Mercer? Tyson ended that... So where does HBO's tournament stand? Bowe vs. Holyfield is on, but, is not a tournament fight. Lewis vs Morrison looks on, and for vacant WBO title. Moorer vs. Foreman looks unlikely, neither has much interest in fight. Tyson vs Golota or Mercer? Tyson walks to his own beat, zero chance. It seems without Don King's titles, or Tyson's participation, HBO's tournament never looks like taking off. Last edited by bob_bask; 06-28-2013 at 05:46 PM. |

Seldon does enough to Retain Title
1995-08-19 : Bruce Seldon 234 lbs beat Joe Hipp 223 lbs by TKO at 1:47 in round 10 of 12 ![]() Seldon fought in effective if unspectacular fashion to stop Joe Hipp in the 10th round in a successful first defense of the World Boxing Association heavyweight title. Hipp, the first native American to challenge for a heavyweight title, resembled the proverbial overripe plum, and in the 10th, visibly flinched - cueing the referee to intervene. "Once the eye closed I couldn't see the jab." Last edited by bob_bask; 06-28-2013 at 05:53 PM. |

Bruno, 4th time lucky
1995-09-02 : Oliver McCall 234¾ lbs lost to Frank Bruno 247¾ lbs by UD in round 12 of 12 ![]() In a pretty full contest, in which the now former champion, Oliver McCall, failed to perform, Bruno's only major opponent was himself - last the distance (see Witherspoon and Lewis) to claim the crown. Bruno, at 33, finally achieved his dream through maintaining his work ethic, dedication, determination and bringing them into an era where such attributes are sadly lacking. While the winner was expected to face Lennox Lewis, a Lewis - Morrison contest for the WBO would scrap that. Talks of a Wembley crowd-puller meeting with Mike Tyson have began. I've only just found out about this game, but I've previously played similar games - WMMA for example - and have read some good sims/diaries. I'm really enjoying this one, especially as a fan of 'Iron' Mike.

Slight off-topic post:
After a few computer crashes, I located my saved game folder for this simulation - minus the Tyson-Hide contest, which I resimmed (of course, different outcome.) Spent several hours getting back into the universe and taking the next steps in Tyson's career (April last time was at this, over 4 months ago) and determined to see this one all the way. However I will be going through this simulation solely offline until it is complete, at which point I will then post it all. Thanks to all those who left comments, added further impetus to my intention of picking this back up. And a special congratulations and thank you to all those 'Inside the Ropes' poster who persevere with sharing their universes. It can be incredibly hard going. |

Thanks for the interest Iron Dynasty, I have been slowly going back to this simulation. As yet only progressed as far as June 1996. So 9 months further along the Tyson timeline, which has brought some surprises. I hope to start posting again in the new year. |

IIB Press Release
"We have entertained several lengthy discussions with Mr. Tyson, and both parties have agreed that it is not in the interest of the sport, nor Mr. Tyson, to have a singular cruiserweight titleist challenger. Mr. Norris has been informed of this decision. Whilst we refuse to discuss private financial matters, an agreement has been settled with Mr. Norris to compensate him for his time. The proposed venue and date stand. Convention Center, Atlantic City, 9 September. Mr. Tyson's new opponent is former WBA champion Tim Witherspoon." Last edited by bob_bask; 06-28-2013 at 05:48 PM. |

Witherspoon claims Tyson ducked him before
Tim Witherspoon's promoter, Dennis Rappaport, claims to have a list of 90 hevyweights who have turned down a Witherspoon fight. "Bowe, Mercer, Tyson, Jimmy Thunder, Alex Stewart, Moorer, Holyfield... the list goes on and on. None of them will fight him." Witherspoon himself had the following to say on his next opponent. "Tyson... he's nothing special yet. He ain't getting back to what he was. I don't think the desire is there any more. Any of the top guys beats him." Tyson - Witherspoon Press Conference
![]() Mike Tyson and Tim Witherspoon shook hands in a sedate heavyweight showdown. Neither man attempted any form of criticism or exhibited a lack of respect for his opponent. Tyson once again spoke very little regarding his future, but was very open and vocal about the accusation of ducking. "Bruno... Williams... Douglas... Ruddock II... I wasn't in any kind of shape. It became a habit of not training for these guys. Every now and then I'd train hard. Train hard for this guy. Skip that guy. It catches up with you. I didn't give a damn... but refusing to face another fighter... no, I have never done that." When asked why, Tyson replied. "I know if somebody beats me, I'll go away, get real serious and beat them back in three or four months." Witherspoon who had prior to the press conference told the media what he thought of Tyson's abilities as a boxer, instead focused on the man, not the boxer. "This man has a good heart. When I was having problems with Don King, he came up and gave me a thousand dollars. You'll probably need that, he said. I've always remembered that and I intend to pay him back. I'm glad he's not with King anymore." Tyson when pressed for a response, commented. "Tim is a far superior heavyweight to Orlin Norris." Last edited by bob_bask; 06-28-2013 at 05:49 PM. |

Tyson - Witherspoon Weigh-in
![]() A more relaxed looking Mike Tyson weighed in at 220lbs, yet again another two pound weight gain between fights. His opponent, "Terrible" Tim Witherspoon, 224lbs, had lost 4lbs since his first round TKO victory over Jesse Shelby all the way back in March. Witherspoon who is 5½inches taller than Tyson carries into the fight a reach advantage of 7inches. There was still no Tyson soundbites of bygone years, no arrogance or speaking of what violent actions his opponent would suffer. Trainer Marvin Hagler provided potential insight into Tyson's strategy entering the fight, "You know Witherspoon's never been knocked out..." Last edited by bob_bask; 06-28-2013 at 05:49 PM. |

Tyson in Fight of the Year 1995-09-09 : Mike Tyson 220lbs beat Tim Witherspoon 224lbs by Split Decision ![]() In what has to be the heavyweight fight of the year, Mike Tyson and Tim Witherspoon traded blows over ten exhilarating rounds. In truth, Tyson dominated the contest despite suffering two knockdowns, for which he spent a total of five seconds on the canvas. Witherspoon could only claim the second and seventh round, despite scoring knockdowns in the fifth and final round, Tyson deserved the rounds. This incredible fight may serve as a catalyst for both men. Mike Tyson, who has never gotten off of the canvas to attain victory, did so not once, but twice. Can people still question his desire? Tim Witherspoon, who has long been described as a lazy, overweight and underachieving heavyweight of the mid-to-late 80's finally rid himself of the label? As they awaited the judges scorecards, Tyson and Witherspoon embraced. Judge: 95-93 Judge: 94-95 Judge: 96-93 Last edited by bob_bask; 06-28-2013 at 05:50 PM. |

IIB Press Release We would like to congratulate Mr. Tyson on the manner of his latest victory, and Mr. Hagler for fulfilling his role as head trainer. Mr. Hagler has unfortunately decided he can no longer maintain his position as Mr. Tyson's temporary head trainer. Both Mr. Tyson and Mr. Hagler agreed prior to the contest against Tim Witherspoon, that it would be his last. Negotiations have been concluded in principal with Mr. Haglers' replacement. However we do not wish to disclose details at such time. Last edited by bob_bask; 06-28-2013 at 05:50 PM. |

Tyson Holds Press Conference
![]() "I think I did well and I'm looking forward to my next fight. I anticipated a hard fight. I knew I would not knock him out in 30 seconds." Possibility of a rematch? "I would like to think so. After Foreman." He wouldn't get into guessing games about which of the current champions he would prefer to face. "I don't know. Bruno-Lewis... Holyfield-Bowe... I don't know." Lewis Back in Picture with TKO
1995-10-07 : Tommy Morrison 227 lbs lost to Lennox Lewis 241 lbs by TKO at 1:22 in round 6 of 12 ![]() Knocking down Tommy Morrison four times tonight, Lennox Lewis re-established himself as a serious heavyweight title contender with a sixth-round technical knockout. Lewis a thinking fighter, seemed to think so hard at times that he was unable to throw sufficient punches. Reluctant to come forward and press the action combined with his contentedness to hold resulted in the majority of the crowd to jeer him at several points of the fight. Where next for Lennox Lewis? "I want Frank Bruno, first and foremost." Last edited by bob_bask; 06-28-2013 at 05:52 PM. |

Bowe takes Series
1995-11-04 : Riddick Bowe 240 lbs beat Evander Holyfield 213 lbs by TKO at 0:58 in round 8 of 12 In an old-fashioned fight between two of the best recognized heavyweights in the world it took eight rounds to find a winner, but Bowe can count himself a little lucky. Nobody had given Holyfield much of a chance, yet he had Bowe disastrously close to a miraculous upset in the sixth. The end came with an unexpected suddenness in the eighth round when Bowe caught Holyfield flush on the chin with a sweeping right hand. Last edited by bob_bask; 06-28-2013 at 05:52 PM. |
