.jpg vs. .png

Does it matter which to use for OOTP 12? I was dinking with unis for my fictional league and can only create .jpgs from it. Most images I see from here are .png. Does it matter that some of my unis are .jpgs and some are .png? Which is better?

I believe the game can do both, but it looks for png files first. I believe png is the preferred format for OOTP.

png's are generally smaller files too.
