World of Baseball 11: Managing, and Playing.
So, I finally got OOTP Baseball 12, and I'm relatively new to this. I got 'World of Baseball 11', and converted it.
I'm going to create a fictional player, then I'm also going to be a manager. I'm going to see how well both of them do, and give updates (likely once a month in-game, or major events), and see where we go. Of course, I'm also a huge Astros fan, so I might have to see when they stop stinking. This is going to start with the 2010 Season. |

January 6, 2010:
Time for a Change: Rays Tab Ballew as New Manager Even as the media debated the merits of those rumored to be in contention for the GCL Ray's Manager post, team officials were furiously wrapping up negotiations with Jason Ballew. In a mid-afternoon press conference, Ballew was trotted out to answer a flurry of questions from the startled media. Asked if he could handle the job, Ballew responded testily, "That's why they hired me. I know the team has issues, but look around the Gulf Coast League and show me a team that doesn't." Note: The original email said GM, I changed for flavor. I had a handful of GM positions in other leagues and independents, and only two minor league management positions. The Rays have good management higher up as opposed to the Indians, so that's what I decided. |

Current Expectations for 2010 Season: Finish .500. Also, I couldn't figure out how to add someone to the pool of draftees, as they didn't show up. any ideas on this?
There's going to be a LOT of churn right now, so I'm only going to highlight players that I think will be important, and follow those players specifically. Kyle Lobstein (P): Drafted back in 09, Kyle's a quiet player that doesn't show a lot of emotion. He looks to be a decent control picture with a solid curveball if he projects well. Being left-handed, he can be average and still do well in the minors and majors given enough time. Nearly everyone else is a 1-star maximum, so I'm not going to spend much time on them right now, and like I said, there's going to be a LOT of churn. Last edited by shinino; 11-09-2011 at 12:56 PM. |

GCL Rays Open the Season with Win behind Lobstein
In the first game of the season and with new manager Jason Ballew allowing Kyle Lobstein free reign on the mound, the Rays battled a few times for the lead before pulling away with a 6-3 victory behind eight strong innings from Lobstein. While it's obvious Lobstein wasn't on a pitch count this early in the season, he showed little signs of tiring before the ninth, allowing 8 hits and 3 runs with only one allowed for an ERA of 1.13
The Rays collected thirteen hits including four doubles and a sacrifice fly while leaving eight on base. The Marlins in comparison weren't able to garner a single extra-base hit, although the Rays did strike out a combined 7 times in the game compared to only 3 for the Marlins. While Lobstein had a great game, the Rays had strong batting support from Roberto Moran (3-4 with an RBI), Emilio Castillo (2-4 with an RBI), Mark Thomas (3-4 with an RBI) and Eli Sonoqui at DH (1-2 with an RBI and 2 walks) with Roberto Moran collecting player of the game honors from the broadcast crew. |

And let the churn begin.
After the first game, Alex Colome was sent down to GCL with a 2-star potential, so I'll be following him as well. He's currently #4 on my pitching chart, and has a questionable work ethic. This 21 year old Dominican has been in baseball for over three years, and truly needs to learn another pitch to go with fastball (93-95 mph), curve and changeup. He has great morale though, so we'll see how he does. Of course, after the 2nd game, they pulled my #3 starting pitcher without replacing him, which moves Colome up to #3. Time to play! |

Great Start by Colome Wasted as Rays Topple in Extra Innings
Alex Colome gave his team everything they needed and then some, throwing a shutout into the 8th inning before turning it over to his relievers. Ryan Owen did his duty before an error left men in scoring position with 2 outs left. Gene Albright, however, couldn't get the job done and let two score in the top of the 9th to send the game into extra innings before taking the loss in the 13th inning on an RBI triple from Santiago Cabanillas.
This wasted a great performance from Colome who had six strikeouts and only allowed three hits as well as a 3 for 4 performance from Mark Thomas, who also had an RBI and two walks. Of course, it didn't help that Roberto Moran went 0 for 5 and left seven on base throughout the game, as well as allowing the error that led to the game-tying score in the 9th. Even with the loss, Alex Colome was noted as the player of the game, however, which was some small consolation although the manager mentioned, "We're not here for moral victories, we're here to win games and help these guys get their careers going." |

Rain Delay Plus Sloppy Pitching Equals Rays Loss
Today, the GCL Rays lost their fourth straight game as Kyle Lobstein waded through a sloppy outing assisted by a 77 minute rain delay. A late surge by the Rays wasn't enough to overcome this as the team lost 10-7.
Lobstein allowed 9 runs (8 earned) in 5.1 innings of work while the Rays continued to leave runners on base with 9 left on through the game. A five-run surge in the 7th wasn't enough to pick up the gap, with everyone but Tinker garnering at least one hit on the day. The manager said after the game, "We can't blame this one on the rain or on Lobstein. He shouldn't have been in after that delay, and we shouldn't have put him in the position we did. I'm sure he'll shake this off and come back just fine." (Note: How do I paste images into forums here, such as the box score or other things?) |
