New to the game (love it!) but a few questions...
Hi all -
Found the game in the app store and have become addicted to it on my iPad. But I've had a few questions come up that I haven't been able to find by searching the forums. 1. Trade offers. I've got trade offers turned on... and in the first few seasons (when my team was terrible) I'd get them every few days. Sometimes several at a time. But in my last season (which I won the championship) and this year (I'm in mid-May and off to a really good start), I've not gotten a single offer from any team. I'm not sure if that makes sense or maybe I DID something to turn them off? Appreciate any help. 2. When I pinch hit for my pitcher and at the end of the inning it puts me to the lineup screen to select my new pitcher... is there any way to see the visiting lineup to see who is coming up? I try to remember to check while I'm at bat, but if I forget I seem unable to see the batters leading off the inning... so it makes bringing in a pitcher almost guesswork. 3. Salary Arbitration. When a player is going into arbitration after the year, it says what he'll get... but that isn't negotiable, right? It's just a fact that I need to plan for? And if I don't want to pay it... what do I do? Release him before the hearing? 4. Player ratings. I've noticed that I'll have a player be a three star player, then the next week be 2 1/2, and then the next week be back to 3 or even 3 1/2... is that just performance based? 5. Is there any way to have a player learn a new position while in the minors? Or is the only way to have him active and be playing him at the new position? Thanks so much! Neil |

#1is normal. Trade offers do seem to come in waves like you have been experiencing.
#2 is not possible in the ipad version (can be done on the pc) #3 Nope, not on the ipad version. (again negotiating salary is possible on the pc) #4 Ratings are based on talent, the previous seasons as well as overall talent at that particular players position. Fluctuation is normal. #5 I'm not sure about this. But I can tell you that again this is absolutely possible in the PC version. Hope that was somewhat helpful. If you are enjoying iootp i highly recommend getting it on the pc or mac. It blows the ipad version out of the water in pretty much ever conceivable way. |

Thanks Mike. It stinks that you can't do some of that stuff, but it's better than finding out I could have been doing it and was missing it. :-)
I'm sure the PC version is a lot better, and I know I'll be tempted to try it at some point. But having it on the iPad is soooo convenient. Thanks again, Neil |

Let me add a few words:
#1 Keep in mind: the better your team is, it becomes harder for other teams to offer you something you need. Thats why you see less trade offers. #2 Something that comes up a lot and I have it on my list for 2012! #3 Arbitration is "take it or leave it". If you don't want to keep a player with Arbitration contract, just release him after the season (no penalties). #5 You can change the defense position of any player and he will eventually learn the new position (even if the player is in the Minors!). Playing time in the Majors might help to learn it faster (maybe use him as Injury Replacement or September Callup) but the player will learn the new position even if he stays in the Minors! Please keep in mind: the iPhone/iPad version is a more casual version of OOTP. It will never be as deep as its big brother.

I'm ok with your explanations. Great stuff. Number 2 needs help. Thanks. Can you expand on the arbitration. Let's say a players arbitration salary is 12 million. I cut him because I think it is too much. Will I get a chance to pick him as a FA and offer less and possibly get him? Just like real life? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I assume what you do is open up your minor league roster then select a player. Then with that player card open you hit action and select "set position" and pick a new position for him to learn.

For the position learning: exactly what mike2228 wrote, thanks!
Arbitration: yes sure, you can cut the player and offer him a FA contract.
