Fictional Roster Question
Hey guys. I was hoping to create a fictional league in which I could make up my own players (real life players from an amateur baseball league I'm in) and use the players real life stats to determine ratings for the game.
From what I can see I can create a fictional game world and do in-game edits to each players. But I'm thinking that will take ages to do. I see that there is the possibility that I can edit player databases through Access or MySQL to which I have almost no experience. My questions: - Is this true that I can export and edit the fictional player database (created by the game) and insert my amateur baseball league players and stats? - What would be the best way to do something like this? Is there a tutorial on this? - Then I assume I would need to import the database back into the game? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much! |

I think your best bet is going to be a two-part approach. For player names and other biographical data, the in-game player editor will be required.
For stats, though, you should be looking to export those to text files, opening the files in Excel, doing your editing there, saving the worksheet as text files again, and reimporting them into the game. Just make sure you don't change any player ID's by mistake. The player ID is key for getting the stats imported to the correct player (see below for #2804 Tom Turner as an example). And don't think you can do name changes from within the text file; see the note in the second screen print: "NOTE: Player names are purely cosmetical and will not be used when importing stats from this file!" . That's why I say you need to do the name/bio stuff in the game, first. So if you are comfortable with Excel working with text and CSV (comma separated value or comma delimited) files, see the online manual for more information at: OOTP Baseball Manual - Import/Export Functions |
