OOTP 4 "Not responding"

I transferred my season from OOTP 3 today without problem. It was transferred in July 2013. Finished the season and in preseason 2014 the program froze. The problem occurred during the "player trading" portion at the end of free agency. I get to day 30/30 but everytime I try to sim the day or sim all the days, then it goes through the steps, gets to "player trading" and then freezes ("not responding").

I tried to make offers to the players, but it said that computer offers had already been made and that I needed to finish the day.

I do have 192 RAM, and plenty of hard drive space. This occurs even when no programs are running in the background.

I'm quite frustrated right now with my first day of OOTP 4.

Did you make any changes to the league? Also, how long are you waiting before you feel it is not responding?

The first time I played the game I had to wait for about 5 minutes on Day 30, so I just got something to eat, and by the time I got back it was working fine. Just wait a few minutes....watch a tv show or something.

Yes, as Hellfrozeover says, be patient with the app during this FA period. Cnt+Alt+Del will often say "Not responding" for the OOTP4 program at the very end of the 30-day FA period, but it will get out of that stall and be ready if you give it time. Try hard to not run other programs (even surfing the net) during this process and don't give extra keyboard inputs while the game is finishing this FA period. Closing the game off while it is in this "Not responding" phase is like a crash to desktop and it might corrupt some game files. If this has happened you may need to reset or use a backup of the league etc to continue (maybe not but that sometimes is the case after a crash).

Also note that not nearly all leagues will cause these problems - it has only happened to me a few times (333 celeron with 96MB RAM) and only with unusual leagues. I imagine that whatever causes increased AI trading (a problem for some users) will be the main culprit for this problem, unless you have done something like create 100's of extra free agents.

Thanks for all the tips. I waited about five minutes and it proceeded no problem.

It's strange cuz I waited ten minutes the first time. Maybe it started it then and finished it now? Regardless, I'll be happy to try and redeem last year's opening round loss to the lowly Dodgers
