I want to import a league that was played using last year's Season Ticket Baseball on a friend's computer into OOTP4. Is this possible?

Yes, should not be a problem.

Then I have a problem.
When I import, I get the infamous C++ runtime error at what appears to be the end of the import process (and I have checked to make sure the league folder that I am trying to import, and its files and subdirectories, are not read-only). I have plenty of hard drive space and plenty of RAM (Win Me). Now, when I fire OOTP4 up again, there is a league folder now in my OOTP directory for the imported league, but when I open that league the rosters don't have any players, just little funky box characters. Somethin' funky is goin' on. Any ideas? --Chris M. |

Well, I seem to have solved my own problem -- but I'm not sure how. I deleted the imported league folder from my OOTP4 directory. Then I tried importing again, not doing anything differently than I did before. This time it seems to have worked perfectly. Weird. I'm glad the problem has been averted, but somewhat off-put by the fact that I have no idea why or how. As long as I don't get any other error messages, I'm just gonna roll with it.

It would be ideal if the game trapped all the potential input errors in paths or league names but it is possible for the game to import a OOTP3 league incorrectly (it has happened to me). The game will in some cases create the "new" imported league name that you type in, but if key files were not imported properly you get that runtime error due to missing files. Usually you can tell if this is the problem just by viewing the contents of the imported league folder. |
