New member with a few questions

Hey everyone, I'm a big fan of the Strat board game, and some friends and forum members suggested I check out OOTP. I never pulled the trigger, but I recently did a search for "baseball" in the app store and saw that OOTP had an iPad version. I immediately purchased ($5 is completely reasonable!). Played a few games, absolutely love it. I think it really delivers a lot for a mobile game.

I have a few questions being a noob...

1.) Can you play a single exhibition game? For instance, I'd like to buy the '82 season and replay the world series with the Brewers and stick it to those pesky Cardinals...can I do this, or do I have to play the whole season?

2.) I doubt this is possible with the current version, but I'm wondering if there's a setting where I can decide whether or not I want to stretch a hit into extra bases, maybe round third and try to grab a run instead of having the game decide to do so? I assume this is all just controlled via the AI and the running aggressiveness slider, but I thought I'd ask, or maybe suggest that we get the option to do so in a future update. I think this would add to the excitement by seeing close plays at the plate or what have you.

3.) Couldn't find an option to change the speed setting in game...not a huge deal, but would have been useful when I was trying to find my preferred speed setting...did I miss something, or is this only configurable at the start of a game?

4.) All of the above are just minor...my only real complaint about this awesome game is the rosters are out of date. Does this work like Strat where the rosters are from the previous season? If so, That's totally fine, but some key players are missing from Milwaukee (No Greinke, no Corey Hart, which is even more surprising). I dont' expect late season updates like K-Rod but Hart's been a starter for a while now, so it seemed a little weird. Can someone shed some light on how this all works? Does OOTP offer roster updates?

5.) Lastly, I saw someone else ask this but I don't' think it was answered...if I buy the '82 season and then they release a new version for next year (which I'd certainly purchase), will my season be transferable?

Final thoughts...I think I'm going to have a lot of fun with this. You guys have a good thing over here, and it's nice to see the devs be a part of the community. Thanks for having me, and for putting out a great product...

1 - Don't think so, I suspect you can only play out the season from the start.

2 - That is in the full OOTP but not in iOOTP yet. I would expect it to be in later versions but not the first one.

3 - I'm not certain where but I would be surprised if it wasn't available in-game. You definitely have the quickplay to certain innings etc options

4 - The rosters are the start of season rosters so will seem out of date now. The roster will be correct for the start of next season when iOOTP12 is released. Again, this can be altered in the full OOTP but not iOOTP.

5 - Not sure as this is the first iOOTP so I can't quote previous versions. Again, you can in OOTP so I hope so but you would need to buy it again whatever happens.

Sorry it's not more definitive but hope it helps before Palli/others can add more.

Man, it would be cool to be able to play an exhibition game and just export the box score (or better yet, a solution to the printing problem, just have it email you the box score when a game is completed). I like playing one-off games, though I know that's outside of the spirit of OOTP, a lot of times, as a family man, it's all I have time for.

As for stretching runs out, the current setup is fine, I just think it'd be cool to add that to the mobile game, though I'd understand if they didn't.

Rosters - Sure, I understand that they are start of the season and will be pretty out-of-date, I was just confused at why some of the standard players that were there even before the start of the season (and previous seasons) weren't included. Corey Hart, Jonathan Lucroy, Greinke, etc. Maybe Lucroy and Greinke I could see, but Hart should be there...not sure why I want him considering he played like crap in the NLCS, but still

It seems like technically speaking, I'd have to purchase the new '82 season for each update of OOTP, which, at .99 isn't a big deal, but kind of annoying and losing your progress would stink. Perhaps the devs can clarify how this will work. I likely wouldn't purchase if I can't play an exhibtion game/series anyways so it might be moot, but I want to gather my options either way.

Hart, Lucroy, and Greinke began the 2011 season on the DL. So, you'll find them on the Disabled List.

Never even thought to look there. I assumed since they were injured they might have been left off. That makes a ton of sense

I assume I can take them off the DL to use them, or do I need to wait until they come back from their respective injuries just as they did in real life...

I think you'll have to wait until the injuries heal. (Greinke, for example, will be OUT for 5 weeks.) OOTP12, the flagship product, allows you to edit injuries. It also allows you to set up exhibition games, make baserunning decisions in-game, etc.

Alright, thanks for the info. I think I'll likely stick with SOM for my board-game playing and use iOOTP for my mobile version. I'm not sure I want to purchase the PC game yet, though the interface looks a lot nicer than SOM's does (not to mention the community has been more welcoming). I'll just hope for some of this stuff to make it to iOOTP, as having the ability to play an exhibition game on my iPad would be ideal for my situation.

it is a great game but does not have all the features of the computer game of course. I certainly appreciate the fact that this company made an iPad version of their game. I play the iPhone version when I am working at Disney on every break I get. I have been a Strat man for many years and they are my first love but this game is great and I really enjoy it. May not have everything that everybody wants but sure is great.
