![]() If it happen fine, if not fine... In my book OOTP is a simulation "text" game firstly, I can live with some graphic but I'm able to imagine what happen on the field in my head (as I did when I listen the Expos play on the radio when I was a kid), in fact most of the time what I imagine was more exciting than what happen for real. As someone who plays out every game, added graphics would be very much welcomed by me. I think it is the change I am most looking forward to in the development of OOTP. I hope the rumors that the features has been pulled from consideration for 13 are not true. Would love some feedback from the OOTP brain trust.

Wow... good thing I wasn't hoping there wouldn't be stupid asinine fights with OOTP13.
Also I have to say also, less than a month after 12's final patch until you all started arguing and complaining about the next version? That has got to be some kind of record in idiocy. Does Guinness do a book about that? Because they would never believe you guys.

The problem is that the graphics debates have been had many times before, and a lot of what can be said has been said.

Isn't this one of the reasons why ootp has the tracker now? To see what gets played the most so they can focus more on that one area? If more ppl play there games out then maybe OOTP will look into the graphics engine more, but if more ppl sim then the priority might be lower.
I for one have no use for a graphics engine and would more time spent on other items. I turned on the tracker tool because I want to make sure that OOTP sees I sim and don't play games out. |

Of course, in reality there would be some in both camps who currently sim and who currently play out games.

When envisioning 2D graphics for OOTP, I always see it as an updated version of this:MicroLeague Baseball for the Apple II - YouTube
That said, how would we be able to incorporate all the nifty stadium backdrop jpgs we can download from padresfan's site? |

And for someone like myself who purchased 12 an was very disappointed with it, when would you expect me to wonder about features in 13? Go drink a few more beers and come back when your angry drunk wears off. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The game presentation part in OOTP 13 will be completely re-done. However, it will not include a 2D/3D representation engine (people on a field running around, throwing the ball etc.) because the freelance programmer who was supposed to do this engine for us (basically for free) got a real job in the meantime and thus could no longer work on it.
So, no real 2D/3D but something much better than OOTP 12 offers.

Instead I will hold out hope for something similar to the Carya live gamecast or the gamecast that is currently available in Getch's OU v4. For that matter the split-screen approach he has taken to navigation would be a welcome addition as well. |

This sound very interesting:
"The game presentation part in OOTP 13 will be completely re-done." But what does it mean? Doesn't sound like a new game engine. Is it just the graphic look of all the menus? More info please. |

I'm a programmer who has been looking for a little "on the side" project and have been thinking about how feasible it would be to do 3-D graphics for OOTP. Right now, I'm thinking not very, unless you already have a decent library of usable animations.
I spent a little bit of time this afternoon looking at some of the old graphics engines. You know, something as simple as the old Tony La Russa game would be a perfect match for OOTP. It definitely would make watching a game more interesting. Tony LaRussa Baseball II Gameplay - YouTube I also looked into whether any 3-D baseball engines were open sourced. There's one very intriguing one mentioned here.... Multiplayer Baseball Online is Open Source I saw a small youtube video of this one, and it looked quite decent, unfortunately the website mmobaseball.org: The Leading MMO Baseball Site on the Net does not seem to be on-line any more and the programmer appears to have vanished off the planet. Missed the boat on grabbing this by a few months. Last edited by Peterk; 10-10-2011 at 07:46 PM. |

[QUOTE=blueturf;3211141]That's quite a tease you put out there. My ultimate wish was that there was some type of audio PbP included, but I realize with the vast amount of variables that could be included with fictional leagues, this is not as easily achieved as in text games of the past.QUOTE]
I asked Markus about this earlier this year when I submitted the 2011 schedules and he said it was doable and to remind him later, however, since things were so hurry hurry this year in beta, I didn't bother as I felt he had more important things than this to contend with. All the game needs is to recognize a "play" command/trigger in the pbp. Then it would be up to modders to do the actual audio recording for it. I've already got that covered. I even have "voice imitator software" which should allow you to make the recordings sound like your favorite announcers voice. As for fictional leagues, it's just a matter of recording the team name/nickname, city name, player name if different from what's already in the game. Easily done in a few minutes. I really think this would add immensely to the immersion and to the game itself. Just my 2cs. |

The 3d graphics engine that was created a few years back for the Football Manager series was a huge update to the old moving 2d circles. I am not trying to compare OOTP to FM because they are totally different but the success of it in the FM series cannot be denied.
