Building a league of all-decade teams
Okay, I had this question come up and wasn't sure how to answer it. Someone asked me how they could create a league full of all-decade teams, from 1870 to 2010. So, an All 1870s Team, an all 1990s Team, etc. He wants to make sure players from those decades are drafted into the appropriate teams.
How would he set that up? Thanks. |

It's possible to import historical teams, for example 27 Yankees, 75 Reds, or any other.
Doing "All Decade" Teams, you'd have to decide for yourself who belonged on the teams to start with, then set them up yourself. |

Well, say you decide the 27 Yankees are your All Decade Team for the 20's. That would be easy, just go to league setup, edit league structure, import historical team and select the 27 Yankees.
You could do that for all teams, then if there were a few players who you felt belonged on the team that weren't there, you can import individual historic players (On the league FA Page) and then assign them to a team of your choice. |

I think he wants teams that are populated from all of MLB. So, for example, his All 20s Team would have all the great players from that decade. Obviously lots of Yankees on it, but others too.

So create your league as you like it, release all players, delete all FA's, then start importing players and assigning them to teams as desired. Sorry there's not an easier way to do it. |

maybe convert Captain walrus' all time time over to 12 and use that as a base and then create a new league 1870's, 1950's etc and trade teh players from the New York Yankees 1959+ over to the teams 1960's thru today and the New York Highlanders to the teams 1901-1958.
Also do a google search on all time teams and import everyone by hand. I know there is a site for the White Sox teams 1901-1910, 1911-1920 and so forth. |

It's extremely time consuming, but there is no other faster way. If you have (a) a fast computer and (b) all of the Lahman ID's for each player at your fingertips you can probably fill one 25 man roster in about 20-25 minutes. If you have small league, maybe 16 teams, you could do it in an afternoon. A larger league will take up the weekend.

Search for all decade teams 2000-2010 is an easy 1 to find the others maybe not so easy. Heres 1 example: The MLB All Decade Team: 1910-1919 - Detroit Baseball History | Examiner.com next change the name of 1 of the teams to say 1910's then go to baseball reference.com and use the player id to import each player individually. example ruthba01 season year 1919 jacksjo01 1911 then repeat for each decade team you are able to find. You may want to look at additional HOFers from each decade to add bench players and relief pitchers. |

2) Open the historical database. It is in the "stats" folder. 3) Enter the Lahman player ID and the year. This menu also has various options for the import. 4) Once the player is imported, go to the editor (yes you must be in Commish mode). Just below the basic player information you'll see a pull down that says, "Team Information, Select New Team". Using that pull down you can select which team the player will be on. That's as much detail that I can provide in short amount of time I have to type this. I'm sorry I could not provide more information.

You can find the Lahman ID's in the historical database. They are in the "Master" file.

The data base is in the stats folder. I blacked out my name, but if you're using Windows please note where you'll find the stats folder.
