What is my deadline for signing extensions?

In my solo league, I'm entering September in my first active season. I have a bunch of players I might lose to free agency, but I can't figure out what the timeline for extending them is. When do I actually lose them? Will I have an opportunity to evaluate new free agents from other teams before I'm forced to extend my own? Thanks.

In my MLB like solo league free agents file on Nov 26. Typically it is 1 month after the last WS game is played.

No you don't get to see FA while extending your own. What should the other GM's do while you get a head start.. Please note that you can see upcoming FA at any time on the league transactions (clipboard icon).

Click on the drop down on the top right (baseball) of the screen. That gives all the critical dates going forward. I don't know if it goes past the playoffs yet since you're still in September. Once the playoffs are done this will show for sure. You have have plenty of time to make all these decisions.

Typically the rule of thumb I follow is that I get my pending free agents evaluated by the end of the World Series. The league rules do have a set date as being the last day you can sign pending FAs before they enter the market. Typically this is after arbitration completes, since you enter arbitration with eligible players before they can become free agents.

Just as in real life, you can only posit and speculate as to who will wind up testing the waters of FA. Contract information should be easily available to view on other players, but you never know when Superstar X will decide to re-up with his team the week before free agency begins - except when it's announced in the news. What I like to do, as the season winds down (assuming I am not in the playoffs), is to evaluate my team's talent base and strengths/weaknesses. Then I make a list of those weak positions and fill them in the offseason.

The decision to try to resign a player or let him to go to free agency is one I make throughout the season. There are some guys I want to resign the first chance I get. Others take longer to evaluate. I've signed guys the day after Opening Day, the day before players file in November, and at every point in between.

I have no hard and fast rules on these things. Some decisions are easy, others are tough. Let's just say the decision for each player is its own event and can be made at any time.
