serious crash

After my previous problems of losing a league, I've deleted the offending file, unlicensed the game, reinstalled the game, and I am still getting the same illeagal error message after it's done loading the league, so I can't start a new league or play the game at all...
I'm using a compaq 333 with 128 mb ram and 500meg free space on the HD. I was using Rolen's rosters before the original crash occured.

So the game loads ok, but what exactly happens and what message are you getting?

It doesn't load, the status bar "loading league" comes up, after that's completed, I get me error and the program shuts down

So the game does not actually load? If that is the case you probably don't have it installed properly or are using an old short-cut to open it.

ok, here's exactly what happens....
I attempt to start out of the park using the ootp4 icon. The game screen comes up, it starts to load the previously saved league, the "loading league" status bar starts loading the league. Windows gives me an illegal error message, the program shuts down. I have installed and uninstalled the program a few times, I've never had a program this flakey before...

What league are you trying to load? It sounds like you either deleted the last used league or the league you are loading was not completely saved the last time.

Try copying the .dat files from the create folder into the previous used league folder.... this will wipe out the old league (sorry) but you should be able to start up the game and switch to a new league to use.
