I would like season to season stats if it wouldn't take up too much space. I can't always see how players perform over time.

Three things that I would like to see (sorry if any have already been stated)

1. Hiring/Firing Major League Managers. This would be a great feature to add. Managers have almost as important of a role as the players due. You can have managers with different ratings such as a manager who prefers small ball (bunting, stealing). You could even promote minor league managers who have performed well enough.

2. I know this has been said before, but 10/5 rule. Players with 10 year experience, 5 years with the same team can veto any trade. But, make sure the AI doesnt just release the player.

3. Be able let other teams know you are looking for either a closer or a first base. You are able to put players on the trade block but it also be good to let other teams know what you are looking for. Might improve the trade offers you get.

4. Have september callups without making the player sign a major league contract. I hate that if I want to give a prospect a look in September, his arbritration begins. It really forces me to hold players in the minors until I believe that are ready to take on a starting role.

Enjoying every minute of OOTP5 but look forward to the next OOTP version.

So many great ideas. I wish only to 2nd, 3rd, whatever a few that are significant to me:

1. Allow for customizable number of minor league levels
2. Beanball option. Even if it isn't the manager that makes the desicion in real life, it'd be fun to have in the game.
3. Rule V draft.
4. Better spring training. I like the idea about a stat line. Numbers can say so much more. And please, more options for player development. It's so bare right now. I love spring training. Please please please make this more interesting for us!
5. Arizona Fall League and Winter ball. Young players need more experience and development time.
6. Allow for changes in fielding percentage. I hate having a good hitting player with great range and a pathetic fielding percentage. Ugh.
7. Have a way to have players work on specific areas in the minors. Say a guy that can't hit for average gets extra batting cage time.
8. I know it's detestful, but maybe a toggle to allow for draftees that don't sign. I hate having the last few rounds of the draft full of crappy players that I have to stick in my minors until I decide they really do suck.
9. Or how about fall instructional league.
10. I love the suggestions for adding manager personalities for other teams. Small ball, long ball, Yankee ball. Better yet, add GM mode where you can "can" your big league manager for stinking it up on the field or demand Steinbrenner-like things from him.
11. I liked the suggestion for more player personality. Yes, this is getting detailed and deep, but all the more fascinating. Baseball is a thinking game, so why not add more variables to the fictional version?

Love the game, would love to love it more. The more complex and addiction becomes, the more I enjoy it. Bring it on.

A few things I would really like to see ( I apologise in advance for any repeats):

1. 40 man roster

2. #1 would enable a rule V draft

3. Enhanced play-by-play as mentioned by several other people. A text based simulation has no excuse not to be exceptional in this regard.

4. re-work the pitcher rating system to more closely follow real-life. Get rid of the avoiding runs rating....lower the importance of avoiding hits. Increase the importance of avoiding walks and home runs and getting K's.

5. add the ability to copy .dat files from one league to another.

I know I've seen it stated before, but I would like to 2nd the suggestion to have the players current fielding percentage for that year listed on the in-game playing field.

A minor touch, but I don't think it would be difficult to implement. The pitcher's ERA currently gets updated with each out/earned run - why not the fielding percentages?

Is it possible to have retired players to become a coach or a scout at the start of next season? That would be nice.

I've posted this before:
A more extensive list of team stats would be great:
Team BTA with RISP
Team situationals
Team bullpen stats

I don't know if this has already been suggested but what about having to hire a manager for the big club like you have to hire a Hitting or Pitching coach.

This could open up a bunch of options like keeping managers win/loss records, add a section to the record books for top managers, allow them to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Also could allow the promotion of your minor league manager to the big show (ie Eric Wedge) and see what he can do with all the kids or even look at someone else's Hitting or Pitching coach to become your next skipper and finally an old star player be hired to take control (Alan Trammell) and try to put butts in the seats.

Even if only the basic part of hiring a manager and keep his Win/Loss record would be great. The game already allows this in manager mode but it makes it more realistic so you can see how you stack up against the great Sparky Anderson. And this would also keep the same manager from staying the manager for 100 years.

After reading the first part of your post, I was going to suggest the second part of your post (bring minor managers up, hiring coaches form other teams). Great post and great ideas ohiodevil.

Simming suggestion

Instead of only simming by half inning or to a certain inning, why not have the option to have games simmed until a certain decision point. For example, the game would sim the ordinary innings but could revert back to human control if, say, a runner was in scoring position or if a pitcher allowed three hits in a row or more broadly if the computer is about to pinch hit or change pitchers. This way, those who play the games out could sim through the routine parts of the game but not miss out on strategic decisions. It's a bit frustrating when I use sim the half innings feature to save time -- and I discover the computer just inserted a reliever I wanted to save or pinch hit with a player I wanted to rest. I'm not a programmer, but it seems like whatever event triggers the game/computer manager to make a change could simply trigger the game to stop the simulation, even mid-inning.

Player Stats

What about splitting the season stats up if a player gets traded or released and signs with a new team. An example:

Year AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO AVG
2003 - Team1 154 18 45 7 0 4 21 21 41 .290
2003 - Team2 200 45 64 11 1 13 42 19 60 .320
2003 - TOTAL 354 63 109 18 1 17 63 40 101 .300

Something along this lines. I just get tired of seeing a guy with 4 or 5 different teams (ATL,MON,CLE,NYY,TEX) and especially when a player is released by a team at the begining of a season and then resign (OAK,OAK) on one line. I think this could make the player career stats look much cleaner.

My wish is for another feature. I would like to see fantasy tournaments. I would like to put some teams against each other in a tournament formant.

Cool More Suggestions

How about the following ideas too:

1) Being able to sim and sit and watch the computer play itself without having to press a key to continue play? While busy I enjoy watching computer vs computer games.

2) Pick-off move should have more adverse consequences or is this built into the pitch count?

3) A little more color commentary would be nice.

4) A more realistic bull-pen scenario would be great.

5) More and easier to use varities in Stadiums is a plus.

6) The ability to export/import teams or Free Agents into the FA pool would be nice so that we can add historical players into an existing game environment either as the season progresses or at the end of the season to be used for the next.

7) A split screen editor where we can pull up two teams either from the pros or minors or both and drag and drop players from one team to the other and edit certain stats.

8) More stats on teams statistics and located in a more visable and easier location. This would include both Team Vs Team and Player Vs Opponents type stats.

9) Widen the players last name field by at least 4 spaces (maybe chg to a small font in order to do this) so that we could "tag" our historical players as follows: Mantle'62Y or Saberhagen'85Ro -
meaning Mantle 1962 Yanks and Saberhagen 1985 Royals.
See the soon to be complete: Spanky's All-Time Greats file for a better appreciation of this small request.

10) Give some more meaning to the question: "Do you want to argue with the UMP?" Maybe make it so that one takes a chance of getting ejected vs maybe getting a future break on an in-game close call or two. Hey, Leo the Lip didn't argue with Umps for nothing!

11) I really enjoy the sound file that plays during the games - it kinda make me feel I'm in the ball-park. You might want to expand on this feature a little.

12) Allow us to edit the players contract after he's signed up for a multi-year contract. This way we can set-up our leagues on a more even and level basis if we are going to go on-line.

13) Oh yeah, I also noticed in the process of putting together my historical league with the All-Time greats that many players like the 1909 Ty Cobb and many other greats would agree to a minor league contract. Now that's ridiculous! Can we have an option to chosee between 3 to 5 mininums salaries that each player, under any circumstance, would require before signing? This would be over and above the League minimum.

14) Can you give us a sneak preview and tell us now what the top 10 or 15 priorties for new features might be and when can we expect them?

Keep up the great work. OOTP is truely the baseball gamers game! Even with what you have already, I look forward to playing a couple three or four games everyday!

Regards

I'm not sure if many of you are familiar with HHRecord, but I think if Markus took some ideas from it and implemented them into OOTP, it would be great. HHRecord was a 3rd party utility for the High Heat baseball game. Basically the program kept tract of records and statistics of all types. Just browsing through, looking at the records was enjoyable in an online league I was in that used this program.

Browse this link to get an idea of what I'm talking about:

http://www.dinosaursandmore.com/HHRecord.htm
http://www.dinosaursandmore.com/Results/Page_T14.htm
http://www.dinosaursandmore.com/Results/Records_ML.htm
http://www.dinosaursandmore.com/Results/Streaks_ML.htm
http://www.dinosaursandmore.com/Resu...ers/p_6218.htm

Some things HHRecord keeps track of that I found interesting:

* Upcomming milestones

* Players stats breakdown by team, stadium, pitcher/batter, position in lineup...

* Plenty of streaks, and not just the best accomplished, but runnersup

* More individual team and player records

* Injury stats (not too important, but intersting)

* Award voting breakdowns

* The ability to view a teams seasonal and career stats vs another team

Its my belief that a text baseball game requires cool statistics like these. That's why we buy OOTP over HighHeat...

I hope someone else finds interest here
__________________________________________

Off the subject, but just want to remind Markus of one of my top desires, which seems rather easy to create: when viewing all the players of the league or the free agents, I would like to view their career statistics, much like we are already able to view their stats for the previous year......or better yet, be able to select a year

Thanks,
Bob

Cool Another idea ...

Here's another idea:

It would be nice if there were an in-league "bidding" screen where every mgr, computer AI or otherwise, could submit a bid on a player in the FA Pool.

One screen where all Mgr's/GM's could place a bid on a certain player. The screen would have inputs for: Players Name and Primary Position, Amount Offered, Team making the bid, the Deadline for when the bid becomes irrevocable and the player assigned to the winning bidders team.

For solo leagues, the player could set the deadline or deadlines anytime he wants and for on-line leagues this would be done by the commissioner whenever he wants to. Therefore, it would be possible to do this several times throughout the season so as to ration the availability of resources.

If a team is out of cash, his/her trade would be nullifed and the 2nd highest bidder would win the bid, unless he too, was out of the funny stuff ... the bid goes on down the line or fizzles out if there is no other interest.

Results of the bidding wars could be published in the "breaking news" or League Newsletter or onto a website.

Of course, there would be the ability to "print" out a daily, weekly, monthly report on the status of all transactions.

For solo leaguers this would put a little more challenge into the art of drawing players from the FA pool since every other team would have an eye on your moves and possilby give the "scouts" another job to do.

For On-Line leagues, this would provide another arena of spirited interaction and keep them up late at night trying to out wit their opponents.

Whether or not it should be tied into the League Trading menu is another questions I will leave to those who are more knowledgable than I in that area.

Thanks for listening and remember, "stayed tuned" for Spanky's All-time greats.

Talking Oh Yeah ... on bidding

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention:

Each player in the FA Pool should be able to have a minimum Salary that could vary from one player to the next either globally based upon certain statistical criteria or manually for each player.

Afterall, we wouldn't want Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, Sandy Koufax, or Ty Cobb playing for peanuts, or would we?

For the leagues with June draft, allow full visibility of the upcoming ammies ahead of time by putting "Amateur Draft" on the League drop down menu from the start of the season.

What about the inclusion of player mood changes in the game, so when a player is unhappy his performance is slightly down...Thus adding to the manager aspect of the game with more player interaction and more reasons to change a lineup
He could be unhappy for various reasons including for example:-

1 Wants a new contract
2 Unhappy with another player
3 Unhappy about the teams league position
4 Wants to be in the starting lineup
5 Needs reassurance on his future

Just some ideas........What do you think??

1 More PbP options to give us folks who don`t sim games more realism on the everyday plays........even include a ball by ball option.......

2 An everyday news page where more indepth day to day news is compiled on one page to make it all a little less confusing.........Like having a "Home" page........

3 A "continue game" button so it`s more obvious when a day has been completed.....At this point your news page icon would flash when you have any unread news for the day......Like in "Championship manager" soccer sim.

4 If you change your starting lineup in the in-game lineup screen and then change your mind, and go back, it doesn`t remember what changes you`ve made and reverts back to your original lineup...
If you see what I mean..........
