Help needed with 10/5 question
Palli, Markus, anyone -
I just accidentally met the outrageous demand of a veteran pending FA. Wasn't paying attention and hit the 'meet demand' Tab. Now I'm stuck withe guy for five cap-busting years because he's a 10/5 guy who won't waive his rights. I tried the trick of putting him in the minors to annoy him, but he's really happy to be collecting his salary. I don't see that working. Question: if I release him outright and someone else picks him up, am I not off the hook for his salary at that point? He is a five star player and I am sure somebody would pick him up now. In two years, when his star level drops,I 'll be out of luck. Thoughts? |

payment
i do not know about iootp but in real life (Major Leagues) you would be responsible for most of his salary (except for the player minimum which I think is $350,000 per year) even if another team picked him up. There are numerous examples. I remember the Tigers cutting Damian Easley who was making approximately $10 million per year. When another team signed him the Tigers still had to pay him. There are many, many examples. Sorry, but it appears you are stuck paying this guy.

No, in OOTP you pay the full amount on release regardless if someone picks him up after. revcarte is right that IRL teams would only ever sign the guy to a minimum salary deal though so the old team pays the balance anyway.

Yes, thats the way it works in reality and (i)OOTP. Sorry, you have to pay him out or try to trade him (but with a bad contract it could be hard to move him).

I'd look into trying the trick I recommended a few times or leave him in the minors for a few weeks, if possible, especially if he wants a starting role. |

I have tried to trade 10/5 guys in every version of the game with little or no success. Demoting them is the only way I have seen to make them go. I have posted questions about this in other threads, and still haven't gotten an adequate answer.

If the player is unhappy with the team results, his personal performance or team transactions (hint: trade very popular players or demote him) or if his playing time does not meet his expectations (wants to start, but you have him benched) then he will be more eager to waive his no trade clause.
