Even his firing can't rid them of the horrid contracts he's responsible for.

But it could prevent future horrid contracts.

Not necessarily will, but could.

Finally!! . Although I am a diehard Sox fan, ther was a time that i wished the cubs the best (as long as the Sox beat them 4 of 6 and had a better record) I don't see how this guy has given out some of the contracts he has. unfortunately KW might be suffering the same fate as Hendry soon after this Dunn debacle.

I've got nothing but love for the Cubbies. Like you I hope they suffer during the crosstown showdown but the rest of the year I'm rooting for them, how can you not? (Unless you're a Cards fan)

As far as Williams is concerned, he put together a WS team so I'm slow to pull the trigger on him and nobody had any idea that Dunn would fall as bad as he has.

When i was young I cheered for the Cubs of the late 80's and early 90's as much as i cheered for the White Sox. After awhile 1. i realized you cant have love for both teams. 2. My team won the World Series, so i no longer had to cheer for the hopeless Cubs. 3. I hate Cubs fans overall, who think there team at any point other then from late 20's til 1945 are better then the Sox. 99% of Cubs fans cant answer basic questions on the history of their team, while 25% of Sox fans cant answer questions on the same 5 subjects. I hate that people assume based on my screen name, that I use everywhere, that I am a Cubs fan. Yes I would take the Cardinals #2 to the Sox but thats only because of their manager and when he leaves so will my allegiance to them. BTW I am cheering for the Brewers this yr. ( I like parity, or better yet new teams making the playoffs.)

yes, because 9 out of every 10 Cubs fans i ask the same basic 5 questions to only 1 gets all 5. whereas when i ask 5 similar questions to white Sox fans only 25% get them all wrong. I guess it would be 90% not 99% opps.
BTW we are all baseball fans on here and most diehard, so I wouldnt be surprised to see this go from 90% down to 70%.
For Cubs fans
1. Who originally played in Wrigley Field and what was Wrigley Field originally called?
2. Tell me at least 3 other names the Cubs have been called.
3. Tell me the World Series years for the Cubs since 1901.
4. Who is the teams all time winning pitcher?
5. What records do any Cubs players hold?

Same basic questions for Sox fans
1. What other ballparks have the Sox played a home game in?
2. Who else used the name The White Stockings in MLB?
3. What are all the playoff years for the White Sox?
4. Which former owners dad was the President of the Cubs?
5. What records do any White Sox hold?
6. extra credit: name "the 8 men out"
I do give credit for people who get those partially right.
I used to chat on mocospace and AOL all the time and these are teh basic questions any fan should know about their team and you as a brewers fan i could do the same for you team.

I think it's hard for non-Chicagoans to understand how bitter the rivalry can be.

That could be, I imagine being around each other all the time could do that.

The lady who took our photograph at Wrigley was a Sox fan, I asked her if I had to take off my Sox hat to get a photo and she laughed telling me she's a Sox fan so it's ok.

I'm from the midwest. When I was young I lived in Kansas City and was a Royals fan. I was a fan in the sense that I was a kid, I loved baseball and since neither of my parents did I just became a fan of the team that was close.

Of course as a Royals fan in the late 80's I was in complete awe of Bo Jackson. When Jackson went to the White Sox I followed suit and have been a fan of the Good Guys ever since.

So you're not a fan if you don't care about ancient history? That's bull.

I didn't say that, although it is nice to know what your team has done. Most Cubs fans are fair weather fans. They go to Wrigley for the beer, The hot chicks and the after game nightlife. They don't care or know who has played for their team now or before. Most Cubs fans can;t tell me who was the OD starter in 2003. Cubs fans get hooked on their favorites and don;t care about anyone else on their team. White Sox fans (and any normal fan of their team) know who played 1B before Paul Konerko or Who has the most OD starts in White Sox history for SP.
Also Damian why is it 75% of all Sox fans I ask those 5 questions to they get them right or mostly right while only 10% of Cubs fans an answer the questions about their team?
My family is split in half between Sox and Cubs. The family members who are Sox fans know our teams history, only 1 member of my family can answer those 5 questions (he also cheers for the Sox, Cardinals and Dbacks)
If I were to ask you , who claims to be a Brewers fan who are teh 2 greatest hitters in Brewers history you should be able to answer that easily. Or what team moved to Milwaukee to become the Brewers or which other teams have played in Milwaukee. or tell me which Milwaukee team went to back to back World Series. Or why did the Brwers move to the NL after playing in the AL for so long. Those are things any fan of any team should know.
Yankee fans (the non bandwagon 1's) Boston Red Sox fans, Cardinals fans and even the few Marlins fans who actually exist know their teams history.
It's not hard to read a book or these days to look up info on the net.

From what you said, it should be 1% of Cubs fans knowing this stuff, not 10%. I don't like exaggerations (even though I find myself guilty of them sometimes ). That's the whole reason I got into this thread lol.

And spell my name right dammit!

And to answer your questions:

Robin Yount and RYAN BRAUN (I know it's really Molitor, but Braun's my favorite player ).

Seattle Pilots.

The Crew only made the WS once.

I don't know why they moved.

And if I wanted to read up on history, I'd do it for school, where it would actually affect something. The history doesn't interest me because I don't really like studying or anything like that. If they had like a season by season documentary of Brewers history that I could access for free, I'd be all over it. But I don't like reading up on this stuff and such, unless it's something really interesting (like the story about the time Ty Cobb went toe to toe with Babe Ruth in the power numbers for a couple of days). Oh well, the only baseball leagues I really care about are my OOTP leagues anyway, so no need to get into this.

EDIT: Didn't see the second part of your second question. There was also the Milwaukee Braves.

I don't know why they moved. Because the Braves were a NL team and Bud Selig felt they should go back to their roots (in part)

20-30 yrs from now when your telling your kids about your fav team what are you going to tell them? oh we had Prince Fielder for a few yrs and the Brewers have never won anything except in 1982.

WGN news asked Cubs fans what they thought of Jim Hendry's firing they said it took 5 tries before a Cubs fan even knew who Jim Hendry was. Cubs fans are the most unknowledgeable fans in sports.

Milwaukee Brewers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Your 15 I dont expect a kid to be that knowledgeable what it comes to his team. My nephew just turned 18 not too long ago and he didnt care about who played 1B for the Cubs in 2003.
But I dont see how fans can claim their team is better then mine when they dont know anything about their own team.
Although I despise Yankee fans most know what they are talking about.

BTW I wasn't exaggerating when I said only 10% of Cubs fans know those answers. I ask those questions to any Cubs fan i encounter including many on here and 10% gets them all right. 75% of Sox fans get them right. So it's based on my own studies.

I bet you're extrememly annoying to be around and quite possibly one of those people who thinks they know it all and thusly get to decide who's a real fan of any sports club. I love those people.

His questioning may be a bit extreme but the logic is there.

I like to start a little bit more simple with my questioning.

Who is the manager?

Can you name a hall of famer that played on your team?

People in my neck of the woods refer to people who can't answer simple questions about the team are often referred as the 'Pink Hat Brigade.'

He gave out the contracts because the Trib said spend, spend spend. Why would they want him to do that? Because they wanted to increase the value of the team when they sold it. Simple enough! Look he signed the top 2 FA's in that class with Soriano and ARam so I'm not quite sure what everyone complains about.

Also, only Sox fans are so concerned about the Cubs. I don't care what the Sox do they aren't in my division or my league.

Yeah, that stuff annoys me. Fairweather A's fans don't exist anymore but there are a lot of fairweather Packers fans, and the worst I come across are in my own family. My sister-in-law says she's a Packers fan and says "we" when talking about them, but she didn't know who Greg Jennings was as recently as last season.
