I have now had 3 different league files suddenly fail to load.

I just had my third league file for OOTP12 just suddenly fail to load at start-up. Twice it has occurred with the rosters out of the box, now once with Cubby's new rosters. It has occurred at different times of the season or in different seasons in each case. One made it 3 simmed seasons before it occurred. The game will play fine throughout an evening of play, such as last night. But today when I attempted to "Continue" I get the error message: An error occurred loading the database! Could not load word file." Attempted to load the league file rather than select the "Continue" option..still doesn't work. At least I backed up this one but I'll still lose progress. But what's the point if it it's just going to happen again. Every league i have started has ended in this fashion. I've played OOTP forever, don't let my post total fool you. I can't ever, ever, recall this happening. It's very frustrating to go through and do so much prep work with building the roster I want and then have it all lost a few days later. What can I do? Why is it happening? Very, very frustrated.

I need to know what your auto-save setting is set to..you can find it under game setup-global tab and on that screen it's on the right top portion under auto-save & log options..

Thank you for the response. I'm sorry I wasn't able to check back on the boards for a few days. Auto save is set to once a year, I guess that's the default? I didn't change it. I save the game myself periodically if I'm playing for large blocks of time and manually save it before I exit the game, which of course saves it again. The game is then failing to load the league the next time I try the game. I've never had the game actually crash during game play. I made a backup of this current league that has failed but haven't attempted to restore since it seems to me it's just going to happen again.

At this point, there are only 2 things you can do.
1. Submit a support ticket on it and ftp your files. If Markus doesn't have the files to look at, it won't get fixed as finding the problem is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
or
2. Upload your files somewhere, (Megaupload works well and is free) , send me the link and I'll do it for you. We already have a bug report on this but no files to back it up, so it hasn't been fixed. Sending your files will help alot.

I suspect something is happening when manually saving the game and then closing it, Perhaps it doesn't complete the process fully, but that's just a guess.

We can start with the crashed one and if Markus needs the original he'll let me know...Usually we only need just the .dat files in your saved game-your game folder. That's it. Zip/rar those into 1 file. If your unsure on which they are, the whole league is fine and I'll sort it out..

I attempted to build an arc file but I keep getting a read error as it tries to add world.dat. It prevents the file from completing on every attempt.

Just zip/rar the entire saved game your saved game contents..that'll be fine.

If you load Cubbyfan's Trade Deadline ones into another save Game it will work.

I have been unable to zip up any of my crashed leagues. They all fail while attempting to include world.dat.

One of these leagues is cubbyfans' pre-season file.

What version of the game are you running and is it PC or Mac??
Sorry for the misunderstanding...I need the games good league files, not the crashed one and not cubby's. Just the original games/your saved game file. Load your backup (If it's not cubby's mod), save it and exit. zip up that saved game and send it. As I need the good one before any crash. I'll run it, try to verify that it indeed crashes, then ftp the good one so Markus can look at it.

Two questions though, your problem is very similar to some others..Just before the problem, did you manually save the game at any time before you exited or make any kind of changes before you exited the game?, where upon next restart you get the can't load world.dat error??
It appears something is corrupting the world.dat file and since it happens at random times, it's not gonna be an easy one to reproduce.

I do not possess any leagues under saved games that have not crashed. The one league that I have a backup ready to restore from is based on Cubby's mod.

On Sunday I will start a new game and play a few games, then make a backup. I will play it out until it ultimately crashes and then send you that backup prior to its crash. I have no reason to think that it will not crash at some point.

The crashes have occurred after two different procedures. With my first two crashes, I had done things the way I always have with previous versions of OOTP. At the end of playing the game I would exit the game and it would save my progress before closing. After the first two occurred I started manually saving much more often as I played but the game always did it's auto save as it exited. In each case, the very next time I attempted to load or continue(tried it both ways) the league fails to load.

I am running version 12.3 build 22. I do not play on-line so I haven't upgraded to build 23.
