Question about ratings
What ratings are supposed to represent...body punching?
Foot speed? Hand speed? How would the AI know that Ward should use his left hook to the body, or Mike McCallum is THEE body-snatcher? |

Sooooooooo, how would I create a fighter who's mostly a body puncher?
Fast/Slow foot speed? hand speed? Head movement? |

I don't really know. I imagine if the fighter has a high aptitude for fighting inside and the fight inside strategy is selected it would tend to include more body punches.
Head movement is just a form of defense that wouldn't have anything different on the format. Speed is similar to the head movement. It seems the faster fighters are given higher punch landed numbers. Even though that would be more a sign of accuracy.

I'm trying to look at other boxers in the system and I can't really find a disparity large enough to separate the fast boxers from the slow ones. Is that not a huge factor in boxing? ![]() from what I've read here http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/joom...ategories.html it seems that the clinching attribute is directly related to ring movement (why it's hidden, God knows) and punches missed relates to... my head hurts |

Those are valid questions but it seems to work out when simming fights. Maybe because the faster fighters have a combo of good defense & a higher CF, they're harder to hit & they tend to land their punches.

You fought Ali & Joe only once & that was your result? A surprising result, no doubt! Are they based on real fighters or are you creating totally fictional ones? |

For what it's worth, if you select a fighter to partake in a fight and go to the 'training (boxer's name)' tab, it'll show you ratings for defense, power, punch speed, technical abilities, and 2 more I can't remember. You can use this to find out which ratings correlate to punch speed and such.

As a matter of fact...what's the difference between 2 point and 3 point punches? Does one determine the frequency while the other the effectiveness?
Where are the mods to help answer these questions, the manual is WAY too vague. HELP PLEASE! |

I'm certainly not a ratings guru. There is nothing in the game that let's you designate one fighter a bodypuncher and another a headhunter. Even Muhammad Ali, a notorious headhunter, throws more body punches in the game than would be his norm. A Joe Frazier or Mike McCallum will throw more punches to the head in the game than would be the case in real life. A reasonable fascimile of a bodyhunter might be to style the fighter as a Slugger, have the fighter's control factors be more effective against boxers than sluggers, give the fighter a high Aggressiveness rating, give the fighter more clinch numbers than ring movement numbers and make the fighter more proficient fighting inside than when using any other strategy. The quality of the fighter can thus be adjusted to the level you seek using the other rating categories. Prominent ones would be CF factors, Endurance, Punches Landed, Punches Missed, Hitting Power, % of 3 point punches, Defense and Fast/Slow Starter. The ratings in the game do not isolate hand speed or foot speed as much as make them elements of certain more general ratings. I don't know if this helps but this is how I would approach styling a bodyhunter.

They are extremely evenly matched, and you're unlikely to see a quick stoppage either way, but anything can happen now and then. After the hundred-fight trial they were both exhausted, but when Ali's handlers were helping him out of the ring he was still talking a mile a minute. By then it was pretty hard to make out what he was saying, but I think I heard something like, "took nineteen cuts and I'm still the prettiest" and "once we get past ninety-nine, the chump is mine!" |

The 2pt and 3pt punches are what you would call, clean and effective punching. The 3pt shots land with more authority and are greater accumulators of points.

Just looking now. Thanks so much for sending a PM rather than assuming that we are ever-present to see and answer your questions and thus need a snarky post to flesh us out. We, being unpaid volunteers who happen to like this game, simply love that sort of behavior. Quote:
You won't get ratings to mimic what you are asking for per se in this sim. The sim has a lot of flexability but it is geared toward coming up first with end results that reflect real results as closely as possible. It's a computer version of an old card game. You won't find a 'foot speed' rating. You will find defense, control factor and other ratings that can create an impression of a fighter that moves well. It doesn't know who should throw a hook v. a cross or when. Those notations are window dressing (they were in the card game as well). What the sim does is generate the frequency and power of landed blows to approximate an outcome. I see others trying to help you out here and you not engaging with them so frankly I have little interest in going further. This sim has a multitude of ways to adjust and refine a rating to get end results that approximate reality. The play by play trys to build in the story of the fight for you but you need your own imagination as well to fill in the blanks. It is not a video game where you can watch fighter A execute a left hook or watch fighter B slip a punch, turn the corner and jab.
