Farrell Hurt After Punching Locker
Sunday, June 30th, 1895: After suffering through yet another heartbreaking loss, Boston catcher Duke Farrell took his frustration out in the clubhouse. At first, Farrell expressed his rage by shouting loudly and overturning a water cooler. However, the tantrum took a particularly ugly turn when Farrell decided to take his anger out on his locker. "He unleashed a couple swift jabs to the metal door, then I saw him clutching his hand and wincing," said teammate Joe Dowie. "I knew right then he'd hurt himself pretty bad." X-rays confirmed that Farrell had in fact fractured his hand. "He's gonna be out for at least a month," said manager Hiroshige Hakui. "He really needs to learn to control his anger. Not having him available is gonna be a major setback for our team." The team will explore free agent and trade options, but may be forced to fill Farrell's position internally.

An advanced medical team they have in Boston - I think Roentgen discovered the uses of X-rays in 1895! In Germany.

Clubhouse Shenanigans May Cost Cleveland Players
Sunday, August 23rd, 1896: Cleveland teammates Jim McCormick and Charlie Hodnett are in hot water with manager Bill Murphy for a series of pranks aimed at other teammates and at one another. "These guys are adults," said the Spiders skipper. "And they're supposed to be professionals. Why they're acting like a couple of clowns is beyond me." According to Murphy, both players will be fined if the behavior continues. McCormick, however, doesn't understand why his manager is getting all worked up. "We're just having a little fun, blowing off some steam. He doesn't need to call us out in public. And fining us would be taking it way too far." Hodnett was slightly more diplomatic. "It's embarrasing to be singled out like that. I guess I need to take things a little more seriously from now."

The first x-ray machine was displayed in 1896. So... in theory it's not too far off.

In one of my recent simmed games, I noticed an instance of a baserunner (from 1st base, in this case) being called out after being hit by the batted ball.

lol, yeah. Possible to get four strike outs in one inning if the catcher drops one.

The ol' dropped third strike. Always good for trivia whenever a pitcher strikes out four batters in an inning.\

And I love this game too.

BBQ Too Hot to Handle for Fauver
Wednesday, October 23rd, 1901: Pirates reliever Clay Fauver required medical attention yesterday after severely burning himself while barbecuing at his home. Fauver suffered first and second degree burns when a flame from the grill he was using suddenly shot up his right arm. "It was a pretty scary scene," said teammate Jack Rothfuss, who was with Fauver when the accident occurred. "I thought it was going to totally engulf him for a moment." The fire also singed Clay Fauver's hair and eyebrows, but luckily failed to ignite the shirt he was wearing at the time. "It honestly could have been much worse," said Rothfuss. The injury will reportedly keep Fauver out of action for anywhere from 3 weeks up to a month, but doctors expect the burns to fully heal.

I take over an under performing team and I'm looking to get rid of dead weight. I tried unloading an underperforming first baseman who is 34, had three bad seasons in a row (and was never that good anyway) and is eating a large chunk of payroll. Nobody wants him. I'm in July and if the season ended today, he'd win the triple crown

I just had a manager blow up at a news conference and unleash a few expletives (shades of Lee Elia), and then, a couple of days later, the league fined him for his outburst. Did these new messages get added with the latest patch?

I just had Rogers Hornsby's wife hit him with a frying pan and dislocate his elbow and he'll be out of service for at least 7 months.

but I still love this game.

I ran into that the other day. Where's the throw coming from? And I believe the mystery thrower should still be credited with an assist.

Off-Field Injury Strikes Jimmy Dygert
Thursday, January 4th, 1906: Doctors tending the injured Athletics starting pitcher Jimmy Dygert diagnosed him with a knee contusion and said he will be out of the lineup for up to 6 days. Dygert was injured when he got jumped walking down the street yesterday.

Must not have done a very good job this past year.
